Last year I made the H. H. Holmes Murder Castle cartoon cutaway and Kickstarted the production of jigsaw puzzles featuring the illustration. It was really well received and I loved the challenge of the project, so I decided to make another one. I learned a lot making Murder Castle and applied those lessons to The Edgar Allan Poe Macabre Mansion, which illustrates 20 of the author's short stories in one big, creepy house.
Please check out this blog post I wrote describing the process of creating the illustration. It is hand drawn then colored in Photoshop. It's taken me most of the year to complete using whatever time I could find between other projects. The image is packed with details and clues from my favorite of Poe's stories. My hope is that people will listen to the audio recordings of the tales as they assemble the puzzle or color the poster! (They're all on YouTube - links in the blog.)
Scroll down to see the reward options. Each Poe item comes with a legend identifying the various stories and highlighting details hidden throughout. This puzzle is bigger and has more pieces than the last one, although it comes in the same size box so it will look very nice next to your Murder Castle! If you don't already have the original cartoon cutaway, H. H. Holmes' Murder Castle, you can get that too!
If you dig the project, please share via social media. If it hits goal by midnight on Halloween, I should be able to get puzzles out in time for Christmas! (Can't guarantee, but I don't foresee an issue for domestic orders.)
One more thing... I'm running a very special contest. Hidden within the illustration is a clue about the next puzzle (I'll be starting a new one next year). The first person to locate the clue and correctly guess the subject of the next puzzle will be drawn into the next illustration as a character! The deadline to guess the subject is January 31, 2018.
Update: Someone has already found the clue and correctly identified the subject of the next illustration! Thanks for all the great guesses!
Thank you so much for your support!
CLOSEUPS FROM THE ILLUSTRATION:
Risks and challenges
The illustration is finished and the manufacturers are ready to go. All I need are the funds to get started, so this will operate as a preorder. If I can hit goal (about 250 puzzles) then we're in business!
I can't guarantee Christmas delivery (domestic orders), but I don't foresee an issues as long as I hit the goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
