!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P O S T F U N D I N G N O T E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Tiletto Kickstarter project has ended successfully by reaching its funding goal!
But, the Tiletto product is just beginning :-)
Want a Tiletto for yourself, family, or friends?
When this website is ready, you'll be able to do just that:
Or, send me a message to discuss your needs (Click-through "Contact me" next to my picture).
Thanks to all that made the project a success :-)
We're forever grateful!
Best,
:-)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank You and Welcome!
Thank you for visiting the Tiletto project page.
We hope you decide to pledge, which you can do at any time on the right-hand side.
And, if you do, a sincere thank you!
Function
Opens letters / envelops and does light work around the office such as opening boxes, removing staples and other static fasteners, and dealing with the occasional nut or bolt that gets in your way!
Other Functions
Tiletto can help you do other things as well:
- The chamfered sides of Tiletto can act as straight edges to help you draw lines, score lines, cleanly tear pieces of paper, etc.
- Both ends of Tiletto, which have different shapes / characteristics can be used as a pry bar to take care of a variety of odd jobs, where leverage is needed.
- Although you probably don't use screw-pin anchor shackles in rigging your desk :-) you sailors out there can probably see that the centerline "needle hole" cutout can be used as a shackle key.
- Come to think of it, you could probably use Tiletto as a fid on larger-diameter rope, but only if you practice knot craft at your desk!
- In a pinch, can be used to stir coffee, LOL!
- . . . and so on. In short, Tiletto is a useful tool to have on, in, or around your desk!
Form and Finish
When it’s not working, Tiletto looks good laying in repose, hanging loose, or leaning confidently within arms reach, on or around your desk.
Finish: Your Tiletto will come with a "stonewashed" finish -- literally washed for hours in a bath of proprietary alchemic "elixir" along with secret stone-like material in custom-made "tumblers" :-)
There are Two (2) Versions of the Tiletto:
1. Inch-Calibrated Hex-Wrench Version
2. Millimeter-Calibrated Hex-Wrench Version
Inch / millimeter sizes, starting from the back of the Tiletto, from the largest to the smallest hex-wrench opening:
Inch-Calibrated Version: 9/16", 1/2", 7/16", 5/16", and a 1/4 inch hex-bit driver in the center.
Millimeter-Calibrated Version: 13mm, 12mm, 10mm, 8mm, and a 1/4 inch hex-bit driver in the center.
Design Esthetic, Inspiration, and Perspiration (Prototyping!)
The sleek shape of Tiletto is inspired by the (1) “wasp waist” design pattern, which gives you a nice spot to place your hand (stylized cutouts on Tiletto's sides), when opening letters / envelops, and (2) the elongated shape of a needle hole, which provides a place for your thumb (hex and centerline cutouts), when using one end or the other to open boxes or deal with fasteners of various types.
We doo-noodled (doodling plus noodling = doo-noodling :-) on paper, then moved to CAD, and finally spun up the machines and cut prototypes for evaluation and testing.
Material
Titanium, but of course!
Ti-6Al-4V, otherwise known as "Grade 5" or "G5" for short.
“Half the weight and twice as strong as steel.”
Dimensions
Approximately 7 inches ( 178 mm) long by 1 inch ( 25 mm) wide, at its widest, and 1/16 inch ( 1.6 mm) thick.
(More than double the thickness of a TacTiClip, if you have one -- "World's strongest Multi-Use Clip" -- had to get a plug in here at least once :-)
Rewards
Keeping it fairly simple for now, pledge for one (1) of six (6) reward tiers on the right:
- One (1) Tiletto with inch-calibrated hex-wrench cutouts.
- One (1) Tiletto with millimeter-calibrated hex-wrench cutouts.
- Set of Two Tilettos (2), one each of the inch- and millimeter-calibrated hex-wrench versions.
Early Bird: Get 'em while you can! Any of the rewards above, which are limited by number.
Stretch Goals
NOTICE: Team Tiletto may add, change, and / or delete stretch goals at any time before each stretch goal is reached, based on changing circumstances.
Obviously, the team will do it's level best to give Backers as much notice as possible of any changes before reaching each stretch goal.
$18,000 Stretch Goal: That said, let’s first all stretch for A N N O D I Z I N G, which will be triggered, if we meet this stretch goal.
(Add-on cost for anodizing to be determined later as we get closer to this stretch goal.)
Here's a couple of examples of anodized Tilettos.

Team
It's not just me (or about me :-)
You may know Mike Bond of Ti2 Design, creator of five (5) successful Kickstarter projects: Ti2 Para-Biner, Ti2 Sentinel X -- Aluminum Cache, Ti2 Sentinel -- Titanium Cache, Ti2 Pen, and TORQ Bottle Opener!
Both being Kickers, and on the island of Oahu, it's was easy to meet up and collaborate on each other's projects.
Ti2 Design is our go-to company for all things related to Design For Manufacturing (DFM), helping to turn Tilleto from "thought to thing."
Another valuable member of the team, who you may know as well, is Brad Martin of Tactical Keychains, creator of four (4), soon to be five (5), successful Kickstarter projects: Bottle Grenade, WTF - Mini Titanium Keychain, TiKey, TiPen, and the latest, Titanium Bottle Grenade 2.0, funding now!
We started our first respective projects around the same time, and had a "one helluva" ride our first time out, which Brad can tell you about, if you buy him a beer :-) he needs it to relive / retell the story, LOL!
Tactical Keychains is our go-to company for all things anodizing, should we reach our 18k Stretch Goal! Brad is also, like Mike, a great friend, always willing to lend a helping hand!
Our most recent virtual team member is Phillip Kauffman, who deserves a round of applause, and a big cheer, for the successful funding of his first Kickstarter project, the Screw Grabber!
Phillip and i reached out to help each other's projects from a suggestion made by one of our Backers!
It was touch and go, but the Screw Grabber made it, with everyone pitching in! Definitely, a Kickstarter community success story!
Along the way, Phillip found the time, in between full-on marketing, to enhance the Tiletto cover picture with a great graphic design, which was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. If you visit the Screw Grabber, you can see more of Phillip's great graphic design skills.
Phillip has kindly offered to support our project with any additional graphic design work we may need, and potentially collaborating on future projects.
Once again, congratulations Phillip, and a big Thank You!
As we add additional team members from the Kickstarter community, we'll feature them here.
Funding, Production, and Fulfillment Schedule
In weeks, starting from the first week of April 2014:
Week 1: Project funding period ends, funding goal achieved, and initiation of funds transfer process.
Week 2 Funds - Funds transferred to Team Tiletto.
Week 3 - Tiletto cuts checks for raw titanium sheet stock, manufacturing supplies, and reserving machine time.
Week 4 - Titanium sheet stock and manufacturing supplies secured and manufacturing schedule planned for Reward Tier 1.
Weeks 5-6 - Manufacturing cycle for Reward Tier 1 complete, along with QA / QC.
Week 7 - Finishing and fulfillment for Reward Tier 1 completes.
Weeks 8 - 12 Manufacturing through fulfillment process completed for Reward Tier 2.
Weeks 12 - 16 Manufacturing through fulfillment process completed for Reward Tier 3 and project concludes successfully.
This production schedule allows for any number of glitches and gremlins to pop up and be ground under foot along the way to fulfilling Backer rewards!
Design Changes
We're allowing for design changes to Tiletto during the project based on Backer feedback and our own judgement based on the multiple tradeoffs between function, form, marketability, and DFM, not to mention Kickstarter product design guidelines. In a word, we value your input!
Project Communications
Please, talk amongst yourselves, LOL :-)
But seriously, will respond to comments and messages within 24 hours, which will enable scheduling our time efficiently, in a sincere effort, as always, to be as responsive as possible to your questions and concerns.
Additionally, we will update Backers once every two (2) weeks to formally keep Backers apprised of status.
Finally, all suggestions for changes to Tiletto's design are very much welcomed and are appreciated; however, for obvious reasons, we'll be unable to "go back to the drawing board" multiple times. For this reason, team Tiletto will not engage in substantive dialog about Tiletto's design, but will simply accept all suggestions -- with much gratitude -- for mindful consideration.
Important Note to International Backers!
You are responsible to check your country's customs requirements regarding the importation of your reward as described above.
Use of Proceeds
WIth your help, (1) procure all the material and services to fulfill your pledges and (2) help to continue establishing a commercial infrastructure to support an on-going concern, both of which includes products and services related to the following:
- Raw titanium sheet stock.
- Various machines to manufacture and finish Tiletto (and other products for future projects).
- Manufacturing and finishing supplies.
- Quality Assurance and Control activities.
- All the other managerial and administrative stuff needed to get 'er done and in your hands.
- Packaging and labeling machines, tools, and supplies.
- Postage.
- International shipping requirements.
- Intellectual Property.
- Web-based platform and pulg-ins, including shopping cart technology and consulting for same.
- Product design software and consulting for same.
- . . . and the list goes on
In short, we need your help to make Tiletto -- and more -- happen!
Thanks again and look forward to sending you a reward!
We're out of the gate, headed towards turn one, and hoping you decide to run with us :-)
Best,
Team Tiletto :-)

Risiken und Herausforderungen
There’s virtually no risk on this project.
All the lessons learned from the TacTiClip project are being applied on this project.
We have the same “battle hardened” team, who will be doing this one faster and “mo betta!”
And, as you can see, once again, we’re going with a “one-part product.”
One-part products are relatively more simple and therefore less risky.
But, do not be fooled -- don't try this at home without first seeking qualified professional instruction, LOL!
But seriously, one-part products eliminate a lot of variables.
. . . Like am fond of saying, “Variables Introduce Vagaries!”
We got it covered, from Ti sheet stock to tumbling / finishing media -- we're good to go!
Thank you :-)
