A children's story about rediscovering the simple joys of color, told through installation art, photography, film and a pinch of magic.
Because of the overwhelming support, excitement and love for this project my mind has been going wild thinking of all the amazing things we could create and include. For instance, I have found a farm that is willing to rent a few animals, but I need to pay for transport and handling. I have also found some fabulous larger than life props at a prop house in NYC that I never knew existed before I started this journey. To include these things, as well as other ideas I have up my sleeve, I am raising my goal to 25k.
Thank you all again for your amazing support!! Please keep passing the word around, I need all the help I can get!!!
You are awesome and I am grateful.
The Color Project is an eight-part exploration of the world of color as seen through the eyes of a little girl. This story will be part photography, part film, part installation art and all magic. My ultimate goal is to create and produce a multimedia story for children in the forms of a children's book, a short film and eventually an integrated platform to be viewed through a tablet. My intention is to create something that will reignite the joy of discovery through creation, imagination and simplicity.
The plan is to build eight distinct yet continuous worlds for the six colors of the rainbow (plus white, and the full spectrum) over the course of 8 months. Each world will be comprised of objects that share the color, are embodied by the color and breathe life into the color. Each will take about a month to create and shoot. I have invited many different talented artists including bakers, florists, sculptors and various craftspeople to help create these worlds.
This story follows a girl who wakes up to a world from which all color has vanished. Everything is white: clouds, marshmallows, bunnies, doves, cauliflower, chef hats, cakes and the moon (among many other things) create this new experience. After exploring the World of White, she finds a door that will lead her to her first discovery, the World of Red. Throughout this story, the young girl will travel from one environment to another rediscovering all the colors that create the world we live in. Finally, she will arrive at the end of the rainbow where all the colors meet.
Growing up, my favorite picture books were the ones I could visually immerse myself in for hours, often discovering new imagery I hadn't seen before: a tiny mouse eating cheese in the corner, Waldo, or a hidden door to another world. In this project, my goal is to recreate these types of elaborate and curious worlds through photography and film, based around the simple theme of color.
This project is being created for children, and it will capture the imagination and hearts of adults as well.

How Your Money Will Help
Executing a project of this scale requires more than just a lot of work. We are building an individual world for each color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, rainbow and white. Each set will take about a month to source, build and shoot. With your Kickstarter help, I will be able to buy the necessary materials and equipment, as well as pay the tremendous talent that is crucial for this project's success. I will need a minimum of $17,500 to turn my vision for the Color Project into a reality. Here is an overview of how your contributions will be utilized:
Materials: Because of the elaborate nature of the proposed sets, there are many different types of props and materials needed. We need to purchase or rent everything for the sets, including (but not limited to): paint, flowers, furniture, costumes, plywood, paper, tape, rope, veggies, cakes, telephone booths.... you name it, we will use it.
Equipment: Shooting both still photography and film requires many different types of lighting equipment, grip, camera, and digital equipment.. which adds up fast.
The People Who Make it Happen: The most important part of this entire process is the amazing creative team who will work with me on this project. Joseph Minasi will be helping with all the film aspects for the project, from the actual short film to the behind the scenes videos put together to show our progress. Kristen Meyer is an invaluable part of this operation. She is my creative collaborator in designing and constructing these sets. Tony Palmeri is an artist who works in flowers and will help create the organic parts of these worlds. DD Nickel is an amazingly talented hair and makeup artist, who has also proven to be a wonderful addition to our construction crew. Miriam Rieder is a wonderfully gifted baker and will create delicious pieces of art for each world. And, of course, we have our beautiful model who will be the star of this magical journey. In addition, there are numerous assistants who help with everything from lighting to cloud making and all things in between. Your contribution will go toward compensating these highly inspired, motivated and energetic people for their time and their talents.

Your willingness to share this Kickstarter project with friends and family is also an extremely valuable contribution. If you think this project is interesting and it has brought out the child in you, please pass it along! Show people what you're backing! The more contributors we have, the more likely we are to reach our goal and be able to create all the colors in the world for a story children can love and explore.
I will be mindful of your encouragement and support with ever click of the shutter.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
This project has many moving parts with many inventive minds collaborating to create these magnificent worlds. Getting everyone to come together with so many different schedules, ideas and pieces of art can be tricky. As the creator and the producer I will be orchestrating this continually evolving process, and I am confident that through these many layers of expression we will create something perfectly unique and inspired. Ultimately I believe the challenges this project will face and the rewards it will produce will be one in the same.
