About this project
The Zuumer is an innovative personal transportation solution that allows you to manage many of your transportation needs and leave your car at home. The Zuumer is a fun, safe alternative that uses simple, patented technologies to revolutionize the way people travel.
The Zuumer is a premium lightweight personal electric vehicle. The Zuumer uses innovative and patented steering technology to provide the smooth leaning action natural to motorcycles on three and four wheeled vehicles. Both front and rear wheels steer, unlike most other vehicles. This makes riding a Zuumer very natural, easy and intuitive. Zuumers use clean, green lithium-ion battery technology for zero tailpipe emissions. With your help we can take our prototype into mass production.

Over the last four years Zuumcraft Inc., a San Diego, California based corporation, has developed, proven and patented Integrated Steering Dynamics (ISD™) technology. ISD is a self stabilizing leaning technology that dramatically improves vehicle handling and safety by enabling a vehicle to lean like a motorcycle but with even better traction characteristics than an automobile.
Survey data from the U.S. Department of Transportation show that half of all trips in the United States are 3 miles or less in length, a distance widely regarded as bikeable for most adults. Yet 72 percent of those trips are made in cars; less than 2 percent are made by bicycle. Even for trips of a mile or less, private vehicles account for 60 percent of trips in the United States. -Research and Innovative Technology Administration Bureau of Transportation Statistics
We set out to solve these issues in small-scale commuting and urban living, and over years of designing, engineering, testing, refining, and proving the technology created the Zuumer, a three-wheeled electric scooter that is innovative, fun, safe and green. Zuumcraft’s ride experience will differentiate our product in the massive market of millions of electric vehicles. The Zuumer provides a user experience unavailable in the EV market today, it’s suitable for cruising, touring, commuting, patrolling or just having fun.
We have produced many prototype Zuumers over the last few years to prove the technology, secure manufacturing contacts, finalize battery interface, and test markets. We have learned that the Zuumer is well suited for a variety of markets. For example, we tested a few units with the San Diego Police Department. They were so excited that the Zuumer meets their security needs that they recommended us to the San Diego Fire Department, who have purchased four of our prototypes. We have learned that the Zuumer is an ideal commuting vehicle, could be used by those with special mobility needs, is perfect for security and crowd control situations, and above all, it’s fun and safe for everyone.
Zuumcraft technologies simplify stability platforms. Improved stability, improves handling, safety and fun, while reducing cost, complexity and risk. We are experienced, have a clear vision of the future, and the passion to grow this company into a globally significant player. But we need your help.
We’ve proven the worth of the Zuumer, and now we are ready to bring our vehicle to market. With your help we will get the Zuumer tooled up for large scale production. We will be able to use some special manufacturing processes to lower the cost and weight, and add some refined design elements. It will have enhanced design aesthetics and user interface. Every unit we sell will help us reduce unit costs and bring the e-bike revolution to the masses! We can’t wait to hear from you!
We expect to release the Zuumer to the world in June 2013. So please help us get the Zuumer tooled up and on the streets.
Laws and regulations regarding electric bikes, and electric scooters vary by country, state, county, and municipality. We’ve gone to great pains to make our Zuumers legal to ride and take almost anywhere, but please check the legal status of this product in an area before you ride there. Also play it safe and wear a helmet when you ride.
Risks and challenges
Every electric vehicle manufacturer knows there are risks involved with bringing a new EV to market, which is why we’ve put time in with low volume sales in the ruggedized municipality market. Now that we have an electrical system and suppliers we can rely on we are confident about meeting the needs of the average consumer. Our years of experience with manufacturing, supply chain and trouble shooting will be of great value to us as we bring this new Zuumer to market.
-Lower production levels could result in higher per unit costs and lower margins which would restrict the speed we would be able to ship product to our backers.
Zuumcraft’s proven ability to work together seamlessly as a team and with all our manufacturing partners and supply team will ensure the high quality we all require for the Zuumer to be a success.
What happens if you don’t reach your funding goal? Will you refund my money? How does Kickstarter work?
Kickstarter is an "all or nothing" funding platform -- if a project doesn't reach its goal before the campaign ends, no money changes hands. All payments go through Amazon and you don’t actually get charged until the campaign reaches its funding deadline (January 31 in our case). We are feeling pretty good about reaching our goal, but we do need the support of our Kickstarter community to make this happen.
