About this project
Hey there lovely crew,
I have made a new record with my band 'The Rollin Wheel'. The new album has been a while in the making and a while in the waiting, but she is ready to share, we just need a little assistance in releasing it to the world.
We recorded our new album with magical producer Shane O'Mara in his mud brick home studio Yikesville (Yarraville Melbourne). We spent many a day and night writing, laughing, daggy dancing, recording, mixing, and collaborating to create a rich in production, rather emotive collection of songs that we have named 'Southern Light'. The album features a plethora of talented Australian musicians- including long time Rollin' Wheel members Catty Leahy on Drums and my sister Buffy Kimber on piano and keys, Richie Rose on Bass, D. A Calf and Shane Omara on guitars, Tully Sumner on sweet harmonies and talented guests Chris Parkinson (of The Yearlings), Rebecca Barnard, Louise Woodward, Ben Franz (of The Waifs) and more.
We have already released and toured two tracks from the new album, 'Stumble In The Dark' and 'Hell & High Water', both songs were released to warm review (here is a video clip link to our first single Stumble in the Dark- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZt7nxgo5Zg) Both songs have gained National radio play, during November 'Hell and High Water' was on ABC radio's high rotation playlist and was chosen as the theme song for an Independent film called 'Rural Fire Tales.'
During 2016 we will be touring and sharing the new album live, majority of our shows will be in rural and remote Aus, because we LOVE and understand the importance of rural touring and its positive impact on Community. We will be releasing our new album and starting our album tour very soon, in Feb 2016, starting off with 9 shows in Victoria, 8 of which will be in country Vic.
This is the part where we need you! As an Independent band, we have self-funded many of the costs associated with the creation of the album so far, including recording, mixing, mastering and musician session fees, photography, graphic design, videography and touring and publicity for the first two singles. It feels like quite a vulnerable process to ask for assistance, but we genuinely need it for this next step of the journey..ok, so here goes...
We would LOVE your support in raising a minimum of $8000 in just 20 days. These funds will go directly towards covering some of the costs associated with releasing and touring 'Southern Light' into the big wide world. Here is a breakdown of where the funds will go...
- Publicity. We have employed a top publicity crew to work with us on the album release and the promotion of our rural and urban AUS album tour. Cost of Publicity campaign: $5,500, of which we have already covered $2,500
- Video Clip creation for a new song, with talented Videographer Agostino Soldati: $1500
- Graphic Design and Illustration. Design of Album Art, Merchandise and Tour posters: $3000
If we reach our goal of $8000, the additional money raised here will go towards additional costs such as..
- Printing of the new album on CD and VINYL (first print of 1000 CD's, 300 VINYL): $5200
- Printing of the new merchandise: $1500
- Additional Publicity costs - community radio carts, beat and inpress adds, poster printing and distribution: $1300
- Touring - Interstate flights/petrol/musician fees/accommodation/hire van/pa hire//sound engineer fees: $large and ongoing, over $10,000
THANK YOU SO MUCH for reading our story. Any sort of support is super appreciated. I hope you enjoy the rewards, especially the yoga sessions with our Mumma Kimber and Kimber Family cassettes- my sisters and I reluctantly offer these daggy recorded moments from our childhood - but they are too funny to keep in a closet forever. If you feel like sharing this with your friends and crew that would be awesome!
Any questions at all you can email me - Sal Kimber on firstname.lastname@example.org

Risks and challenges
I have a number of friends who have had albums successfully supported thru crowdfunding platforms and I see them to be some of the most brave and talented of the bunch out there (there is currently a kickstarter happening right now for my friend ROSE COUSINS, go to her site and give her a kick too)
I have wanted to launch a campaign for my band for some time now but the truth be told is- I haven't felt that comfortable, asking for help, it is a whacky and vulnerable thing. I feel this is the riskiest part, for me, pressing the launch button on this Kickstarter - the rest is nearly done - the album is sounding sweet and the band is ready to roll. Thank you again for reading this far down the page, wherever you are from - Australia or a far off land, thank you for supporting Independent Australian Music, what a gorgeous community of musicians and music lovers we have down here under warm Southern Light.
