Animal Gods is a single-player 2D video game that will take you to Bronze Age Europe, 15th century BC—to a time of massive stone megaliths and new metals. A young, determined warrior must travel far and wide to hunt the evils that lurk in the Dark Places. You will journey to tall forests and fields of stone to find and slay the curse that haunts the Animal Gods. Pick up a bronze sword and strike kilometer-long snakes, mammoth lions, and warped, nameless beasts.

Ancient Pilgrimage – Travel to places lost & nightmarish and mythic & dreamlike. Move through silence and quiet before you fell the beasts. Give them peace. Let them rest.
Cinema Sequences – While exploring, you will sometimes happen upon story events. These moments highlight theater, art, sound and will enrich the experience.
In morning, we wake.
Our village sends men who are young to go to cliffs to bring metal back to our home. Metal to cut wood and make stones sparkle and gleam for man & woman to wear.
But if we speak of metal, we must speak of faith.
The faith I know and my ancestors know is plants and creatures who live and die and grow old and wise. And as one we hum songs soft and have each other under windswept skies...
This is Old Faith.
The men who bring metals believe in these metals. They believe in them like the gods because these metals shine like the stars, and these metals are sharp like the jagged stones of the east cliffs. But listen to me now. Listen carefully.
Metal has no life. Metal brings death. Metal is New Faith.
In three nights there will be a feast, dance, and ceremony in our home and I will tell you of my daughter and why she must go east. She will go to the east, deep through an old passage to find our gods, the animal gods, the creatures who watched from the night sky but now leave the night barren. She will slay their curse because there is no one else. She is meant to. She will die for us because she must.
You are our Final Faith.

Physique: Agile + compact. A climber.
Blood: Warrior from a lost tribe. Symbol of old sun woven into cloak. God's eye hangs from neck.
Weapon: Apa type sword.
Classic 2D Action – A few distilled mechanics blend together and develop throughout the game. Crunchy sword strikes, climbing, and dodging are your primary tools. As you journey further, the beasts grow tougher and challenges become greater.
Animal Gods will be released on PC and Mac with controller support. Through stretch goals, the game will launch on the Nintendo Wii U as well as the Sony PlayStation 4. Control layouts are similar across input devices.
Themed Regions / Themed Beasts – Beast IX slithers through the East Marsh, Beast VII swims through murky waters in his Aquarium, Beast IV stands and solemnly gazes from an old structure in the south...
Game areas and regions connect seamlessly. The map below depicts places you will go and locations of beasts you will fell.
Stories are boarded, art direction is established, and alpha versions of levels are designed. We have many proof of concepts and a prototype of the play system. The full game is just waiting to be properly assembled.

Here's how this works—we've broken the game into smaller pieces (Acts I – IV) so that we can better manage our funding goals.
The funds raised from this Kickstarter will help us produce a sizable chunk of the game at the high standard that we intend, with all the visuals, sounds and sizzling / crunchy game play as promised. If we meet further stretch goals, we'll make more content and then we'll port the finished product to Wii U and PS4.

Risks and challenges
Video games are fickle beasts. They take many, many, many dedicated hours to produce. A lot of time is spent assessing, reassessing, and polishing everything up until it's simple, seamless “fun”.
Animal Gods is developed by a small, talented team. We face relatively low costs, intra-office communication is easy, new ideas are quickly communicated and incorporated, and everyone is so stacked with tasks that there’s no time to get stuck in the old grind.
The biggest risk you face while supporting Animal Gods is a delay on the projected release schedule. When calculating the projected release date of Fall 2016, we did account for these time-delay risks, but there are always quite a few unknowns. These values may require further tweaking.
