Road to your City is a city building and management game with a heavy emphasis on football.

The playtime is limited to 15 minutes to get a first impression of the game handling and the atmosphere. It's already possible to load & save a game but these functionalities are disabled in this demo.

Road to your City is a city building and management game with a heavy emphasis on football. Slipping into the role of mayor, you are tasked with growing your city from a tiny village while simultaneously establishing a successful football club. Meet the wants and needs of your citizens and allow your city to flourish, all the while developing your football club from grassroots to world class powerhouse.

  • Build a city for people to live and work in.
  • Create homes and provide jobs.
  • Found a football club, adding and developing talent as it grows.
  • Install and maintain training facilities to provide your players with the best development environment possible.
  • Enter your club in competition, starting with the district league all the way to the premiere competitions in world football.
  • Construct a football stadium and use your inevitable success on the pitch to attract new supporters.
  • React to security, satisfaction and population developments by upgrading or expanding your city with the buildings it needs.
  • Deal with unpredictable events such as players leaving or hooligans causing trouble in your stadium.
  • Further your city’s financial situation by providing services like TV, fan shops, and banks.
  • Request and acquire funding to develop both your city and club.

There are already a few tracks of the soundtrack available. So far there are 4 completed tracks in the style of the classical SimCity games.
I would like to show you the main theme of the game. I paid the current tracks from my personal budget. If the campaign will succeed there will be a complete OST for the game in that kind of style.

I'm working on Road to your City for almost five years now. I started the project in 2014 and created everything (except for music & sound) by myself no matter if it was the concept, the game engine, graphics (UI and in-game) or the actual programming. Everything was built up in my spare time while working 40h/week as a professional software developer.

The game has entered the second alpha in December 2018 and the progress is at around 80% thinking of Early Access.

In October 2018 I started doing Indie Devlog videos on YouTube since I wanted to try something new. It's really fun sending out development updates to supporters of the game. Here is a link to the devlog series playlist:

The road map for the upcoming goals Early Access and Release looks like the following:

The second alpha came out in Q4 '18 (December 2018) and went pretty well. I mostly worked on fixing bugs, added new features and improved the UX (user experience) at several places.

The Early Access version will be released in Q2 '19. Several game mechanics will be extended (e.g. a more complex tech tree) and the balancing will be improved for different difficulties. The football content will be extended like giving player names (see "Football star" perk). The stretch goals will be added if they had been reached and there will be regular updates. 

The Release 1.0 will be in Q1 '20. The game mechanics will be completed and most of the bugs will be solved. A scenario mode will be added to the game to give the player more variety and more fun to play the game.

Since I always want to be transparent, here is a chart how I plan to use the budget in case the campaign will succeed. First of all you might ask yourself: why a Kickstarter if he has full-time job? He has not...I quit my full-time job and will start a part-time job shortly to have more time for game development. So here are the numbers:

The biggest part is still the development which is very diverse. Starting from software/hardware licenses or fees which has to be paid there are also costs for taking part in conferences, keep producing the devlog videos and another very important part - the quality assurance/testing. There is also a buffer for all the other areas included. Still not much thinking of a release in Q1 '20.  

Next is graphics/art. Since I've done all the graphics by myself (except for the game logo) not everybody might enjoy the style. Even though I think I could really improve my graphic skills there is still room for improvement. I would use this money for hiring an artist recreating the game assets to create an even better look.

Every game should have a marketing budget to get a better visibility in the market. That´s where this money is planned for.  

A really important part is music. The atmosphere of a game has a huge influence on a project. I think Road to you City deserves a great soundtrack so this money is used for. You can also see a small selection of music in the demo version which has been financed by myself.

Last but not least I also have to pay the Kickstarter/payment provider fees and taxes of course.

Road to your City is my first game project which started in 2014 on a hobby-base development but became a serious project in the meantime. I'm really excited working on the project every day in my free time.

I decided to only reveal the first stretch goal. The other goals will be revealed if the previous goal has been reached.

The first stretch goal is to add multiple stadiums. So far the player can build a stadium which is always the same model. When reaching this stretch goal I will add more stadiums. These are the designs I've modeled so far but I will discuss about new models with the Kickstarter backers after the campaign what kind of stadiums they would like to see in the game.

The community goal is to implement seasons for summer and winter. The landscapes, buildings etc. will have winter sprites as well. It could look like this:

The goal can be reached only by sharing any campaign related tweet/picture (posted on February 1st or later) on the social media channels Twitter, Facebook or Instagram or even by supporting the project with the 1€ perk (for backer requirement). If the following numbers will be reached, the community stretch goal has been achieved!

Risks and challenges

I started a first closed alpha in June 2018 and the second in December 2018 where a bunch of people were in. I got a very positive feedback and many suggestions I was already able to implement.
To make it short: the game will be release no matter how this Kickstarter will end - this campaign is used to make Road to your City even better with your financial support.
Seriously...I'm not working on a game for almost 5 years to chuck it in the dustbin ;)
