About this project
Solstice is a tense strategy card game for 2-4 players that plays in 30 minutes. The game is inspired by the classic novel Dune, written by Frank Herbert. Players represent factions vying for control of an interstellar empire. Both bold play and subtlety will be needed to navigate the "wheels within wheels" intrigue of this homage to Herbert's universe.
Players draft Assassins, Diplomats, Legions, and other cards belonging to their faction or their opponents'. Then, players take turns dispatching these cards face down to the Planets, revealing key pieces of information when they do so.
Players must successfully navigate this tangled web of limited information to succeed. Solstice has been in development since November of 2015. Now, it's ready for someone like you to play it!
"Solstice taps straight into my love of blind-bid and bluffing games, with smoothly asymmetrical factions and plenty of options for both strategic and tactical surprises. And all of this in a small deck of cards." - Paul Imboden of Split Second Games
There are two versions of Solstice: Standard and Deluxe. Standard features everything shown below.
- 24 Action cards
- 6 Illustration cards (Action cards with just the illustrations)
- 24 Event cards
- 5 Planet cards
- 4 Player Reference cards
- 4 Quick Start rules cards
- 1 First player card
- Tuck Box
- Digital Rules, Strategy Guide, and Rules video
The cards are lovingly illustrated by John Ariosa and will be printed by Drive Thru Cards. The cards are perfectly cut and shuffle beautifully.
The Deluxe Edition features everything from the Standard Edition and adds beautiful wooden tokens made by Daft Concepts.
- Standard Edition
- 1 First Player token
- 12 Casualty tokens
- 36 Victory Point tokens
- 1 Favored token
- 1 Strongest token
- A black velvet bag to hold them
The Standard Edition requires you provide tokens to play, or keep score on paper.
Digital Rules: There isn't a cost-effective, high quality option for producing printed rules. While the minimum core rules are provided on cards, I also want to provide diagrams and examples for every card in the game to minimize confusion.
We want you to know everything there is to know about Solstice! Check the links below and don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

"The great thing about Solstice is the simplicity of the rules with so much subtle strategy in its play. Reading players is as much fun as the drafting and bluffing to set up well timed combos to claim victory of a planet. We love Solstice!" - Luis and Alexia Lara, testers
Solstice will only be shipped to backers in the United States and Canada.
This is a very low volume production that will not be in stores. As a result, the methods used by more established publishers to offer cost-effective worldwide shipping are not available to us.
Here's why you should back Solstice right now!
- You'll get the best price.
- You're supporting my design, my illustrators, and partners.
- You cannot buy it in stores.
- You'll receive outstanding customer service.
- Solstice is fun!
Your pledge is spent on producing the physical goods, hiring an illustrator, paying Kickstarter fees, and covering the cost of shipping. I'll also earn a small profit, which I'll spend on customer service, future projects, and taxes.
There are no Stretch Goals. Instead, you're getting the best version from day one.
- While possible to withhold some of the 24 Event cards as Stretch Goals, or add new ones, I chose the best from over a year of testing.
- We tested solo and five-player variants, but they weren't fun.
- The Illustration cards are included to thank our backers.
- Tokens are unfortunately too expensive to offer as a Stretch Goal.
I'm focused on delivering a great game, on time, for the best possible price.

Risks and challenges
Solstice is the third Kickstarter run by Hyperbole Games LLC. I have the utmost confidence in our ability to produce this game on time. Here is what we've done to ensure success:
Solstice is a finished game. It has been in development for over a year with over 100 local and remote tests.
All art is complete. I've paid for the art out of pocket, proofed all components, and they are ready to print.
We're using a trusted shipping method. We'll print the labels, then I will personally pack every order. You will receive a tracking number and I will immediately address any issues that arise.
I've done my best to prepare for a smooth campaign. But, there are some things outside my control. I've padded our delivery dates conservatively to account for delays in wood and card production.
I will always communicate transparently. Finally, I've set aside funds to cover any unexpected failures. You will get your game!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
