Ask Us Anything + Harlem Shake

Hey everyone,

Just a fun mini-update for all of you today - our Reddit AMA is now live, so please head over there and ask us any questions you want, about the studio, us as individuals, our previous games, or Project Awakened!

As a little treat for everyone, we've decided to show off a bit of our studio's capability today by showing how fast we can make new powers. On Tuesday we watched Harlem Shake, on Wednesday our Lead Combat Designer Steve Bowler motion-captured it, and on Thursday it was in the game! Check it out here!

And also watch Steve's best use of a mocap studio ever!

We are one of the only independent studios with our own full-capability motion capture studio, and that helps us get a TON of animations and interactivity into our games at a much lower cost than your average developer.

Is the craziness over? I think not! Stay tuned for more updates!

@Fabian, cuz i think they want the UE4 to be a video of its own :-)

The other one was merely to show how fast they could make new stuff.
      - UE4 vids should be out in a couple'o days!

    2. Creator Fabian on February 17, 2013

Hm okay thanks anyway @Casper. Looks anyway good. With UE4 it is gonna be getting much more nicer.
But why not directly capture it in UE4? NDA/Embargo with it for ingame capture?

    3. Creator Casper Rosbak on February 17, 2013

      @Fabian, It's not :-)

    4. Creator Fabian on February 17, 2013

Is this a UE4 Video? If not when can we expect an UE4 Demo? Can't await to see more from the game. I also hope it gets backed, coz I pretty like the concept of the game and the little studio.
They do a pretty work - even with the animations, that they can capture it pretty easy and fast!

@Mark Brown, you've seen the movie Mystery Men, right?

    6. Creator Vince Vazquez on February 15, 2013

"Who do you want to be?"

I totally wanna be the soldier, front middle-right, dancing like a Peanuts character in that video linked up above:)

Saw Kotaku run stories about Awakened today! That's great that you're getting more coverage and, hopefully, pledges!

Cool little mocap studio by the way. But nothing is going to beat Platinum Games' "studio" for my money - it's just a group of Kinect cameras! It's actually really cool how they did it.

Or different versions of dance- one that lasts longer but does no damage, or a mosh pit that lasts a short time but has dancers injure self.

Now I want "Flash Mob" ability! Like Otto's Irresistable Dance, but it affects the NPC's a few at a time until they're all dancing in unison...

Nice video, very funny, but I hope we can select the music if this one goes into the game

      Everyday I'm shufferlin

Years ago my friends and I tried to come up with the "League of Useless Super Heroes". Each one basically had useless abilities, but would somehow find ways to make them useful. For instance, their leader was "Mr. Clean Pants", who's only ability was that no matter what happened to him his pants would remain in pristine condition. The only way this was ever useful was that onlookers would be stunned by their beauty.
Another one only had the ability to teleport, but could only teleport some random guy from Arabia around to different places. The Arabian guy swore to kill whoever was making him teleport all the time and anyone who got in his way.
And on and on... You get the idea.

Thats some funny sht right there

Thriller Zombie Dance Fever is a great ability idea, as is the Party Rock Syndrome from LMFAO's video :)

    15. Creator Mark Brown on February 15, 2013

      Go go Thriller zombie attack!

    16. Creator ET3D on February 15, 2013

Loved the Otto Irresistible Dance comment.

    17. Creator Charlie Gillies on February 15, 2013

MoCapping is interesting! We were using a laptop and two Xbox kinects for it back in 2011.

    18. Creator Phosphor Games Studio on February 15, 2013

It's just a humorous demo of how quickly we can get a new animation and power into the game, and how you'd be able to do something similar with our tools!

    19. Creator Brandon Carbaugh on February 15, 2013

This is to show how rapidly and easily they can develop new powers.

    20. Creator Juan Jose Alvidrez on February 15, 2013

By new power do you mean that this person's power is to cause nearby NPCs to dance? Or is this just a demo on how fast you can see something and then animate it?
