40 Years Later...
So I turned 40 last week, I was actually in the process of writing an update when my wife whisked me away to a surprise weekend retreat where I participated in a sweat lodge and then later a Wim Hof Ice Bath. It was actually an amazing experience and totally reset my batteries.
So now I'm back to reality and ready to share. A lot has happened in the last few months, things have started to pop and progress is finally being made.
In some ways I feel like I'm repeating history a little bit, 10 years ago I made the Visitor and followed it up with The Several Journeys of Reemus. Right now I'm making a NEW Visitor and following it up with The Ballads of Reemus. Strange but exciting, ha.
So where am I?
Well I now have an office...
I have two full time programmers, Dom and Dan who are grinding away with me on a brand new VISITOR game.
I started working on art and design for this game in January but I really felt like I was beating my head against the wall for the first couple months. I was rusty both art and design wise, I knew roughly what I wanted to do but nothing was coming out.
So I just started drawing characters and animating them, hoping one of them would tell me a story...
None of them really did, until one day my nephew Austyn came to hang out at the office and I ended up sketching out this kid. From there everything started to come to life...
So I'm going to name him "Austyn" and this game will be his story. It's dark, campy and over the top. I'm pretty excited to watch it come to life. New characters are starting to crop up and the game is really taking shape.
You'll be able to explore the country side freely in this game, evolve your Visitor how you want and enter houses for a classic Point and Click adventure.
The goal is to have this ready for September 2017 to showcase at the Fan Expo in Toronto.
After that we'll be moving into finally finishing off Ballads of Reemus 2, which we're aiming for January 2018 release. A mere 5 years after I set out to make it and about 4 years late :)
With the advent of facebook live video I'm going to start recording some production videos to showcase the process a bit so join the Zeebarf page if you're interested.
Overall I'm super relieved that things are moving and I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I know the first game isn't Reemus, but I had to do it this way to push things forward. Plus Ballads is almost a prequel to The Visitor, in a bizarro cross over way.
So a big thank you for being so patient and allowing me the space to twist, turn and evolve to this point.
Now I'm off to devour some unsuspecting campers...
PS. I will make sure you all get a free copy of this game! Thank you for your ongoing support.
