New stretch goal (fix)

I am very sorry, I was not clear enough on the previous post on the stretch goal post.

What we have decided to set for our 500,000 USD stretch goal are the following:
-The "Standard edition" of the Blu-ray will be receiving an audio commentary and a making of LWA2 documentary.
-The "Limited edition" of the Blu-ray will be receiving an Original Sound Track and a Gengasyu (Line art collection book)

Again, my apologies for not being clear.

    1. Creator Studio TRIGGER on July 12, 2013

We would like to make it clear that "if" GOOD SMILE COMPANY does make an figure for LWA, it will not be distributed as one of the rewards for the Kickstarter project. It will be available as a stand alone merchandise.

    2. Creator Christopher Yu on July 11, 2013

@michael I don't think you understand the full point. The reason why they do not want to make the episode itself longer than 40 minutes is not because they lack the money, but rather that they do not want to prolong the production process beyond what they have planned. With shorts done by single animators, it would be cheaper than production on the actual episode, but more importantly it removes the time factor from the equation. The majority of the staff at Trigger can move on to other projects after LWA2 is completed, but a few selected animators would get to work on 3-5 minute shorts on their own.

It would be a nice gesture for fans who are supporting them, and also a good way to put the extra money they are getting to good use. I know of several friends who are considering lowering their pledge or not pledging at all after the "stretch goals" were announced, because they don't really seem to relate well to the extra funding the project is getting. An announcement of extra smaller scale animation shorts being considered would be a good way to get people excited again.

As for GSC's affiliation, Trigger is one of several animation studios under the umbrella of Ultra Super Pictures, which was partly funded by GSC along with other companies:

    3. Creator michael pszeniczka (deleted) on July 11, 2013

@Christopher Yu: well, its not as much as you think. if they proposed that to get 15 minutes of professional animation takes 150k, that's 10k for a minute. i don't really know the cost for producing a show, but at that rate, its not going to happen. they would have to market the show better and; in a few years, maybe get passed for a season or so.
also, in regard to the GSC, i went to ACEN in Chicago a while back, and the GSC booth had advertisements for LWA on it. so are they affiliated or not?

    4. Creator Elijah Brown on July 11, 2013

I'd like to know how in-depth the Gengasyu will be, I'm an artist and I'd love to get both art books, but I'm unsure I'd want to double my pledge for another art book that is very small/simple.

    5. Creator sahroo on July 11, 2013

So what makes the limited edition Blu-ray different from the standard in its current non-stretch goal form?

    6. Creator Clive Choi on July 11, 2013

Great to see my suggestion for an art box got some positive responses, it's always been a great bonus that the other anime studios (both in the East and West) offer with their dvd / blu-ray sales as well, and something that many collectors, such as myself, really value.

Another suggestion is to also offer digital downloads of LWA 1 for everyone that pledged $20 or more because I'm sure not everyone can afford or wish to purchase the blu-ray. Please also consider creating more than just 1 wallpaper, maybe about 3 just for the sake variety in case the majority of people dislike the first one.

    7. Creator Phil on July 11, 2013

My biggest desire for the money that's going in excess of production costs is that Studio TRIGGER remembers the interest that fans have in the world of Little Witch Academia. In a perfect world, a dollar amount could be attached to a promise of a series. In this imperfect world, my believing heart hopes that there is a dollar amount which -- while not explicitly tied to this as a stretch goal -- will convince Studio TRIGGER to make LWA into a series when they have the time.

    8. Creator Christopher Yu on July 11, 2013

@Catsuka: I really like that idea. If the studio as a whole cannot afford to dedicate the entire team on a longer production process for LWA2, that's fine. But considering how much extra money they will probably be raising in this campaign beyond the $150k they asked for, I think it would be great to spend some of that on bonus episodes made by small teams.

Like Gurren Lagann's Parallel Works. Each short can be directed, storyboarded, and animated by a single staff member, and they can use music tracks instead of have voiced dialogue. Trigger should definitely consider this, and it would be a great way to add value to what fans are getting, and making good use of the extra funds without stretching the main production. These shorts can also be released after LWA2 is completed, uploaded on Youtube for everyone to enjoy.

Please think about it Trigger! :)

    9. Creator Joshua on July 11, 2013

LWA already has a Blu Ray release. I don't see why they would include both on the same disc for that reason.

    10. Creator James Garza on July 11, 2013

I'm all for having a box to hold both LWA 1 and LWA 2. That would be an awesome stretch goal!

    11. Creator Brock Hoagland on July 11, 2013

I like the suggestions of an art box (big enough to hold the LWA1 BD as well!) and in character comments from the VAs as additional stretch goals.

Though I would prefer the promise of LWA3 as soon as they've cleared the projects they already have on tap, even if that would mean waiting 3-4 years.

    12. Creator Anonymous on July 11, 2013

      >I stand half corrected "anonymous," they are required to deliver promised rewards OR give a refund...something you neglected to mention in your original post
Dear "liam," you've got to be kidding me. Refunds are for projects that don't materialize. Nobody ever said that LWA2 might not happen. The choice was between a 20 minute episode and a 35 minute episode. Since they passed the original fundraising goal, a refund at this point is neither a legal obligation, nor a logical outcome.

    13. Creator Ryan Coughlin on July 11, 2013

Would be be okay with this order to stretch goals if it were possible.
1st (thanks to Clive Choi) an artbox that contains all the bonus materials in it.
2nd Adding episode 1 to this release.
3rd maybe look into the possibility of getting a dub
Since getting a higher quality or longer anime isn't a possibility and since you can't give a bonus to employees as a stretch goal(though they will naturally get more if this does well).

    14. Creator Alex Bowman on July 11, 2013

Maybe you could make a tier for the Blu-Rays of both the first and second Little Witch Academia episodes.

    15. Creator Anthony Zhou on July 11, 2013

maybe if we hit 1 million we can have a whole season :D lolol

    16. Creator John C. Park on July 11, 2013

      @Rich Ford
I think you're onto something here. TRIGGER people, make it happen!

    17. Creator Rich on July 11, 2013

If possible, an original song for the series featuring one of the voice actresses would be an amazing bonus for the soundtrack! Especially from Yoko Hikasa.

    18. Creator Draikin on July 11, 2013

I understand that Trigger can't extend the episode's length, but I do have to agree with other comments that $500.000 seems a bit much for this stretch goal. There's an extra $200.000 now and it's not clear what it's being spent on. Don't get me wrong, I trust Trigger will put it to good use, but transparency is key to a Kickstarter.

I'd rather see the stretch goals added more incrementally. The OST for example is something you can set at $400.000. The audio commentary at $450.000. And so on. $500.000 isn't something you'll reach that fast after all, after the initial hype pledges always slow down considerably.

I have to say I also don't like how the OST is limited to the Limited Edition, given how that's really a "standard" Kickstarter item in most projects. Even though I personally did pledge enough for the Limited Edition, I feel like the OST should be made available for the lower pledges, even if only as a digital download. Or at least consider using Digital Add-ons to allow people to add the OST (digital download) to their pledge for a certain amount (for example $10).

I hope that didn't seem to negative! Looking forward to the other stretch goals.

    19. Creator John Sanderson on July 11, 2013

I think this is an excellent conservative stretch goal. Too many projects have fallen into disarray due to overestimating what they can deliver. Trigger has made a good choice by staying true to the project quality and size and only offering bonus additional content as a stretch. Keep up the good work and make sure you give the animators and staff a little celebratory bonus at the end of all this!

    20. Creator Clive Choi on July 11, 2013

Please also think about creating an art box to hold the printed art book and blu-ray, and perhaps a bigger art box to also hold the original sound track for the limited edition.

    21. Creator Seijin Thomas on July 11, 2013

Also please do a small feature about You Yoshinari san in the documentary! He has many fans around the world and more people should know about him!

    22. Creator Seijin Thomas on July 11, 2013

Thanks for the clarification! it was needed! Great ideas guys! I really want the genga art book now!
I am going to raise my pledge to $100!!! YAY!!! please keep the extra funds to create more great and inspiring work and create a brighter future for anime! Cant wait for kill la kill! P.S. I also assume the documentary and commentary will also be in the Limited Edition too right?

    23. Creator Thomas Heaton on July 11, 2013

I would also like to see the first episode for LWA included on the blu-ray release as a stretch goal.

    24. Creator Anthony Miller on July 11, 2013

I would actually like to see the first episode included in the Blu-Ray as well. If you are anticipating no third episode until after 2016 (if ever) then it would be nice to have both episodes on 1 disc. Thank you! Amazing project!

    25. Creator Julio Ruiz on July 11, 2013

I am loving the stretch goal. I'm a total sucker when it comes to art books and the mere idea of getting a LWA figure in the future is a treat indeed seeing as this probably wouldn't have gotten any merch otherwise. Keep it up Trigger!

    26. Creator Jesse Billingsley on July 11, 2013

Who wants to bet that we break 500,000 in a week?

    27. Creator Bliss D on July 11, 2013

      yay! Thank you! :DDD

    28. Creator A certain Kasumi Kenshiro on July 11, 2013

      Jonathan Barrett is right.
People are just being mean to a small studio at this point.
      Give it some time.
I'd rather have the extra money go to the studio itself to develop than have them break even all the time.

    29. Creator Shannon on July 11, 2013

I love the stretch goals! I absolutely adore the art of Little Witch, so I'm very happy to get more of it with the limited edition DVD. The OST is a neat bonus, too. I would also be really happy to see a Little Witch figurine made by GSC, but it'd be nice if this were a firm goal for $500,000 rather than a "we might consider it" goal.

    30. Creator Reginald Hebert on July 11, 2013

Thanks for clarifying the goals. I'm glad to be able to back this great project!

    31. Creator Benjamin Lee on July 11, 2013

Thanks for clarifying! I am still happy that this show is getting a second episode. Whatever decision you guys make I will stick to it.

But if a scale figure of the LWA girls are made you can count on my wallet to purchase it :3

    32. Creator zcoold on July 11, 2013

I am terribly disappointed, the stretch goals seems really weak for +350000$, I was hoping more animation instead... I don't know anything about making goodies and OST but if it is the right price then PLEASE reconsider, having more animation time is priceless, even if it takes one more year !

    33. Creator Jonathan Barrett on July 11, 2013

Ok, really, I do not see why people are complaining that the lower tiers are not getting extras. Maybe that's to, I don't know, encourage people to up their pledges?
Maybe they could make/include a few extras for all tiers (the Inferno Cop style Omakes sounds like a great idea), but they are in no way Required to do so.
Come on people, you backed this project to support an animation and studio you admire! ALL REWARDS are pretty much a Bonus (if a legally bonded bonus). Kickstarter is not an online store.

    34. Creator Liam Kozma on July 11, 2013

I stand half corrected "anonymous," they are required to deliver promised rewards OR give a refund...something you neglected to mention in your original post:

"Project Creators are required to fulfill all rewards of their successful fundraising campaigns or refund any Backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill."

    35. Creator Margaret Chan on July 11, 2013

I'm a little confused still. Will the Limited edition also contain audio commentary and making of LWA2 documentary? It's usually assumed it would be but I want to make sure.

    36. Creator RPRezo on July 11, 2013

Question. On your Facebook poll you made an option of "A funny short clip with the characters of LWA, FLCL, TTGL and P&S". Were you joking, or is it really possible? Because if it is, we NEED to make it happen. More FLCL!!! It was far too long since we last saw Haruko and Takkun.

    37. Creator Scarlerwing on July 11, 2013

I wish trigger can make it as a series or even an OVA series for a decent quality.

    38. Creator Pieter Dijkstra on July 11, 2013

While extending the runtime of LWA 2 itself would clearly be impractical, considering the amount of time required for animation production, i think that it might well be worthwhile to create a stretch-goal for a few short comedic omake using the minimal animation style seen in Inferno Cop (or even an amusing LWA/Inferno Cop crossover special). Producing something like this would a pretty straightforward, simple way of providing additional content without the need to spend a lot of time on production.

Regarding the pledge tiers, i think that adding an additional limited tier inbetween the $300 tier and the $1000 tier could be very useful. Including something unique like a few original production sketches would make this an attractive option for potential supporters

    39. Creator Karl Goodman on July 11, 2013

Not quite happy. The stretchgoals feel somewhat underwhelming for 500.000 dollar. I wouldn't mind waiting longer if we would get more episodes or a movie.

    40. Creator Joshua on July 11, 2013

From the TOS: "Project Creators are required to fulfill all rewards of their successful fundraising campaigns or refund any Backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill."

Losing money should be a big deal. And if they don't comply with that, it's breach of contract.

    41. Creator Anonymous on July 11, 2013

I'm pretty sure you have not read the terms of use.

    42. Creator Liam Kozma on July 11, 2013

I'm pretty sure kickstarter rewards are not legally binding.

    43. Creator Anonymous on July 11, 2013

Kickstarter rewards are legally-binding. If Trigger says that they will deliver figures and GSC bails on them, then these guys would either have to sculpt, shape, and paint a couple hundred figures themselves, or they'd get legally screwed up. I don't think GSC is going to commit to something on short notice, either.

    44. Creator Dror Levy on July 11, 2013

while i am thankful for getting more stuff for this episode i personally don't see the problem with having a 3rd episode come out later then 2014-2015 or even 2016.
though i wouldn't mind so much if you just said that you will make another kickstarter for that episode\s at a later date when you will have more time to work on it.
the important point for me is that this money will go into producing more content rather then on extra "fluff".

    45. Creator Yourtime on July 11, 2013

I have to say most people are maybe not that interested in these stretch goals dear trigger. Is the 'consider' really possible with 500k? could you say it that it would happen maybe? then i am sure more people are interested to up their pledge!

    46. Creator moshev on July 11, 2013

Would it be possible to have an HD download as a stretch goal? I don't have BR player and I'm not sure if any of the people I know has one. If you're worried about bandwidth, you could offer it as a torrent.

    47. Creator Catsuka on July 11, 2013

First, I'm very happy for your success on Kickstarter ! I understand that you can't extend the episode length due to your planning, but perhaps could you produce some special Little Witch Academia animations with extra staff and in a different style, like the animated omake we were used to see before with some old OAVs. Anyway, good luck for the production of Little Witch Academia 2, this is the most important !

    48. Creator Artemiy on July 11, 2013

I think episode 3 should warrant its own Kickstarter once ep.2 is released, not a stretch goal. No need to rush. Remember the glorious OVA series of nineties. Plus, at that point we'll have more money to spend, won't we?

Let's just make sure we fund LWA2 to help based Trigger make it as awesome as possible. This is the best and the only important reward.

    49. Creator Usagi-kun on July 11, 2013

Thanks for the clarification. I am happy with these new rewards. Let's make this happen.

    50. Creator Anonymous on July 11, 2013
