We all know how much it means to us when someone takes the time to send us a card, but when was the last time you got a card whose design didn't make it feel disposable?
There are thousands of cards out there, but most of them have to be universal enough to sell in bulk, while still desperately trying to be personal. What they achieve instead is reducing sentiments, especially for men, into broad stereotypes.
Irene West offers the cards you've been waiting for: clean, well-designed exteriors, and blank interiors so that the cards say what you want to say, nothing more and nothing less.
Though we are expanding our catalog, these are the cards we've already been making on a small scale for ourselves and the cards where we've seen the greatest need.
Part of funding this campaign will mean that we will have the resources to design cards for more occasions and we're excited to do so.
Irene West Paper Co. is made up of Lawson and Lindsey Soward; designers, writers, and inspired inhabitants of Nashville, TN.
Why We Chose Kickstarter
We love Kickstarter. We think a community that cares this much about authenticity and creativity is the perfect place to launch Irene West.
We are a young couple with a passion for sharp, stereotype-free design and words that last, with a dream of filling a need we've experienced ourselves and heard from countless others, but we simply don't have the funds to do this on our own.
Because we screen print all our cards by hand and we've previously only been doing a few for those close to us, this project is setting us up for mass production. Your money funds:
- Ultra-coated and burned, high density screens for the designs
- A screen printing work station to ensure consistency and quality on every print
- Durometer squeegees
- High-quality paper stock
- Paper scoring equipment
- Envelopes and embossers
- CMYK inks to mix our custom printing colors
- Shipping materials
- Kickstarter fees, other fees, and taxes
- Backer Rewards
- And more odds and ends than you might expect
Your funds make this project possible, and allow us to make the limited first run of cards for your rewards. But after the project is complete, the equipment you funded for the project will give us the foundation we need to become a scalable, national business.
Together, we can make the dream of Irene West a reality and finally fill the hole out there so that anyone of any gender can give and receive well-designed cards.
Our Kickstarter Project will be completed in the month following the end of our successfully funded campaign. All of the materials have been sourced and will be ordered upon successful funding. After delivery and assembly of tools and materials, our project should be up and running.
If you have any questions you can't find the answer to on this page, please don't hesitate to send us a message – we'd be happy to get back to you.
Risks and challenges
Even though this project involves brand new equipment for a scale of work we haven't yet tackled, print design is not a world we're new to. Lawson interfaces with print vendors constantly. Our resources to assess and resolve problems involving printing processes are abundant.
True, there is always a potential that the funded equipment won't work as promised or that a delivery could get lost in the mail. Things may go wrong and this new territory may have stumbling blocks beyond what we've yet seen, but we can guarantee that we will learn from the challenges and mistakes along the way; all the while ensuring that we do right by our supporters.
We're sincerely honored that you would partner with us in making Irene West Paper Co a reality. We think your words deserve better, and we're glad you do too.
All our thanks,
Lawson and Lindsey Soward
