Guide to Being Broke & Fabulous is a zine-style guide that tackles life-below-the-poverty-line realness with a fantastic sense of humor. Geared toward student loan debt holders, contemporary po' folk, and people who find themselves in a financial rut; Guide to Being Broke & Fabulous is a positive publication hoping to provide some emotional backup when the financial wind gets knocked out of you.
Taking the form of a cut-n-paste style fanzine, Guide to Being Broke & Fabulous is a light read ranging from 20 to 30 pages in length (I'm in the editing process) and about 8" x 10" in size. Written and designed by author Julia Arredondo, Guide to Being Broke & Fabulous is based on real events, involving real people, dealing with VERY little money.
The $1,000 I'm asking for to support the first printing of this publication goes toward the actual PRINTING and binding of the first copies of this zine. Guide to Being Broke & Fabulous will have some color components, but will mostly be a fabulous black & white photocopied booklet.
Hoping to change the face of modern self-help (Chicken Soup for the...AS IF) to be more inclusive, alternative, and overall relate-able; Guide to Being Broke & Fabulous aims to empower people with tight budgets, little financial security, and hella style.
Being broke ain't a joke. But the state of our economy is.
Risks and challenges
Risks that I face with Guide to Being Broke & Fabulous range from shipping mishaps, to printing technicalities, to typos, to spilling coffee on manuscript originals, and so on. Luckily the text for the zine is already written and digitally archived, so the chances of me losing the written material for the publication are SLIM.
However, since this is my 12th publication with Vice Versa Press; we're a bit schooled in the world of what can go wrong in the realm of publishing, and are prepared for the worst but praying for the best.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
