Moving forward: progress & changes!
I want to start by expressing gratitude to each and every one of you. Many of you have known me for many years and have seen me grow and evolve as a musician. Thank you for being with me on this journey! Some of you knew me by playing in school band (even my high school ska band!). Some of you played with me in college orchestra, band, or sang with me in choir. Many of you came to my shows with The Matriarchs and with Ryan Getz. Many of you followed my path to Colorado (or met me once I moved here) as a one-woman band, then The Darling Ravens. As most of you probably know, last year I started a new band called The Catcalls. What you may not know is this: The Catcalls is my passion project. I've been wanting to start a full rock band for some time (which is why my first solo album hinted toward that with the opening song "Supernova").
Just as the seeds you water are the ones that grow, the projects you nurture are the ones that succeed. Since I've been in the studio in this last fall and again in early 2018, I've been struggling with which seeds to water and when. This solo album was intended to have studio musicians backing me up, but I'm currently playing these songs with The Catcalls, and they've been brought new life with the guitar stylings of my bandmate, Kayleen. I struggled with this for months, and ultimately, I came to the conclusion that where I am as a musician, where we are as a band, and where I want myself (and my band) in the future, it really makes the most sense to release this batch of songs under The Catcalls. You're still getting the same songs from me, and because it's my belief that bands should be democratic in nature and representative of the individuals, you're getting two of Kayleen's songs as well (bonus!). I see this as an improved product - one that I really think you're going to enjoy. I really hope you can understand and appreciate how this record is evolving, especially with so many shifts over time. If for whatever reason you have a concern with this change, please message me and I'm happy to discuss this further with you.
