Organic food straight from the farm to the table
Sicily has some of the freshest and healthiest organic food in the world. The climate here is ideal for growing almonds, oranges, artichokes, olives, fresh herbs and many, many other tasty treats. But the nature of the way the food industry is set up, often, means that it never reaches family tables around the world. This, we feel, is a real shame.
This is why we came together in a small fishing village on a warm Sicilian night and decided to create a system that will show which farm food is grown on. You simply scan the olive oil, marmalade or honey with your phone and immediately find out who grew it, how they make it and even recipe tips. Now, we want to ask for your help to get this product out there.
Why organic food is important
The main principle behind organic food is to respect nature. That means avoiding putting excessive pressure on the soil, forcing it to produce more than it's capable of. Avoiding chemicals means avoiding killing unnecessary life that is an essential part of the ecosystem. As a result, we get food filled with all the necessary nutrition we need, while respecting our planet and its future.
It seems obvious why we should make that choice, but anyone who's browsed organic food shops in trendy areas knows that there's a catch. It can be a very expensive treat - one that's not fully affordable to an average students or a single mother with three kids.
Part of the reason is that independent producers find it difficult to get their names out there. To grow, produce, sell, and promote their product. This becomes especially difficult in a place like Sicily, where there are many small family farm producers with little knowledge of English.
So with Zoegi food we are able to connect these smaller farms and get a lot more organic food out there - making it more affordable for people to get and easier for farmers to grow.

We have 30 trees ready to adopt. They need our help, support and love to grow organically.
What We Need the Money for?
Each product and gift box is tagged with individual tags to make it possible for us to make it fully traceable. We need to order these in quite large quantities. We also need to pay our producers for the product, gift box printing and delivery cost.
If we reach our funding goal we will be able to:
- Tag 10 000 individual food boxes and products
- Get a steady stock of food supplied for the UK and Swedish market
- Get products into hotels and gift shops around Sicily
- Start expanding into Europe
How does Zoegi work... exactly?
Our technology is built on blockchain - the mother of bitcoins and many other innovations that are currently taking the world by storm. When the product is packed, it's tagged with a NFC chip that links to a blockchain protocol - and logs everything that happens to it along the way. The tag itself is impossible to alter because the antenna breaks if you try to remove it. Each stage is then logged, giving the exact information of production and the route it's traveled. This is, again, impossible to alter as blockchain is the first technology out there that allows for fully accurate record that no-one can change or manipulate. The result; a new way to trace food and get fresh organic food and info about to people around the world.
Risks and challenges
The primary risk is that we do not have the funds for the nfc tags. This would stop us marking up our products. The technology is ready to go and would need to be be adapted if tags are not ready. This would add a couple of weeks to the delivery times of our rewards and the launch of the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
