About this project
Professional, west midlands based opera singer Sarah-Ann Cromwell is taking her ground breaking, award winning, ethical, operatic cabaret act: Diva Gigs: A week in the life of a Diva to the Edinburgh Fringe. No other professional Opera singer is performing classical recitals like this, which makes Diva Gigs A BRITISH FIRST!
Winner of Buxton Festival Fringe Spirit of the Fringe Award 2012 and Nominated for Best Solo Vocal, Diva Gigs: A week in the life of a diva, is an unforgettable romp into the operatic world of Birmingham Conservatoire trained charismatic Soprano, Sarah-Ann Cromwell. Described by her audience as the secret love child of Maria Callas and Les Dawson and 'easy-on-the-eye', Sarah-Ann’s beautiful voice, humorous stories and expert characterisations provide an unforgettable performance which dispels any myth that opera is exclusively posh! **** (FringeGuru.com)
Why Kick starter?
The Edinburgh Festival is the largest arts festival in the world and despite the 2012 Olympics 22,000 acts performed and 1.8 million tickets were issued. It's a unique place where well established arts industry professionals and famous faces meander into a show for 'a look' and a tweet, and eagle eyed national and international reporters, magazines, TV producers, bloggers and journalists aim to discover THEE new, breaking act, and we want it to be DIVA GIGS!
The trip to Edinburgh isn't just about promoting Diva Gigs or British excellence or the west midlands creative industries to a national audience, Diva Gigs is a social enterprise and everybody on the team is involved in mentoring or up skilling. The Fringe has proudly cultivated a participants only professional development programme with master classes and workshops on business, performance and education, which is delivered by industry experts, established artists and people from the BBC. When not performing, marketing and networking, the Diva Team will be in the thick of this programme, so that when they're not Diva-ing, they will have the skills to start their own social enterprise, become the best teacher or grab that 1 in a million job, which in todays competitive world is not to be sniffed at.
The cost for all this...£6,588.....eeek!
What will my pledge be used for?

Kickstarter is an all or nothing project. If the target isn't achieved Diva Gigs receives nothing, so the Diva Team have kept the aim as low as possible to maximize success!
WOLRD DOMINATION! ok a bit over the top. The Edinburgh Fringe is the beginning of the ethical operatic cabaret revolution! This is the ethical bit, Sarah-Ann Cromwell prefers to support and collaborate with other entrepreneurs and social enterprises (which is why all the printing is being given to the Jericho Foundation, Balsall Heath). Diva aims to tour the show in independently run cafes, bars, restaurants, community centres, pop up theatres, barns, art galleries and social enterprises,
- Diva Gigs will bring the show
- The audience buys tickets
- The venue gets a ticket split
- Both the venue and Diva Gigs sells merchandise
- Everybody profts
AND should Diva Gigs go corporate or even INTERNATIONAL!! The profits will be used to fund Diva Gigs performances in isolated areas for people who are restricted by location or disability.
And finally: Who is the Diva Team? It comprises of the following 4 super women:
- Sarah-Ann Cromwell: Diva, performer and producer.
- Ana-Maria Andritoiu: Birmingham Conservatoire trained professional pianist
- Davina Element: Loud and proud, Black Country lass, NQT primary school teacher and Diva PA
- Helen Ross: Wolverhampton born, Aston University Marketing Graduate, blond whirlwind and Diva social media and marketing expert
Risks and challenges
What are the risks?
No human being ever achieved anything of any significants without taking a risk. Risks have consequences, but Sarah-Ann doesn't think that's a bad thing: RISKS:
Diva Gigs may not get an audience. The Diva Team will check ticket sales daily, analyse the marketing ideas, discover where they went wrong and use the information to refine and improve the marketing strategy.
Diva Gigs may only gather a niche following. Brilliant! The team will know who the Diva fans are, how to find them, how to get information to them and will tour a small number of intimate perfomances per year to an exceptionally appreciative audience.
Diva Gigs may go global! What a nice problem to have!
The main risk is financial and firmly on the shoulders of Sarah-Ann Cromwell who will be singing for her supper for a long time after the Edinburgh Fringe has ended. However, she will not lose her home and what she gains in bank loans is balanced by the skills, data, experiences, networking, increased audience numbers and memories of taking Diva Gigs and the amazing voluntary Diva Team to the Edinburgh Fringe.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
