Crossing Frontiers: North Korea's Great Unknown (Canceled)
Discover North Korea with us - a bizarre yet strikingly beautiful country
Two year ago, I went on an adventurous journey into the most secretive country in the world - North Korea (or DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA).
I even made history - by becoming the 1. Western photographer allowed to crossing the DMZ border by car!
I am now preparing a beautiful coffee-table book, and you can help me to realise this exciting project!
You may never been able to visit North Korea yourself - but you can easily get your name into my photo book about the DPRK (and get hold of a copy, of course)!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
In August 2014, I was the only Western participant in an otherwise Russian-Korean group of 30 people who travelled by cars all the way from Moscow to Vladivostok, and from there into an 8-day-adventure being North Korea.
As an highlight, our group got permission on their last day in North Korea to cross the Demilitarised Zone and to travel directly from Pyongyang to Seoul - where we got a full Red Carpet treatment and were greeted by the prime minister.
Is North Korea a shining example for democracy? Definitely not, quite the opposite. Moving (or photographing) FREELY is nearly impossible. Nevertheless, as I had the impression that we were granted a slightly bit more freedom on the trip (due to the "peace theme" of the whole trip) I wanted to focus on finding striking moments in everyday life.
Although restricted in shooting by the always-present government minders, I tried to snap whenever I felt unobserved. The result is a striking series of approx. 40 images, giving a glimpse on a country best described by Winston Churchill's verdict on Russia: “A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.”
The book will include a few images which the border police ask me to delete (at the DMZ, between North and South Korea). However, I was able to regain them once we were in Seoul.
In March 2017, I will show my images and videos in a photo exhibition in Berlin, entitled “Crossing Frontiers: North Korea's Great Unknown”.
With the help of YOU, fellow Kickstarter supporters, I plan to produce a beautiful photo catalogue, which will include my images from North Korea, plus an essay.

Risks and challenges
I have successfully completed 3 crowdfunded book projects so far (on German platform Startnext), so my team and I are experienced to navigate through all the obstacles of the book-making-process.
We are teaming up with a seasoned designer and a quality printing house to get the results we aim for.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
