About

What is DreamRise?

DreamRise is a company with a mandate: to help women entrepreneurs in emerging markets all over the world develop and grow their businesses.

In order to make this possible, we are creating a web-based platform that will do just that: DreamRise.Co

DreamRise.Co isn’t just a Crowdfunding Platform.  We are Women’s Dreams Realized.

DreamRise.Co will launch as a powerful, story-driven crowdfunding platform for women-owned small-to-medium enterprises (“SMEs”) located in emerging markets around the world.

We are starting in the Middle East, where the stories of women have been so contorted by the media, that people have failed to realize and invest in the untapped potential of women in this region (and so many other emerging markets).

DreamRise.Co will bring the story of each woman entrepreneur on our platform to the forefront of her business, telling her story through an inspiring 3-5 minute video profile, helping her crowdfund the necessary capital to continue growing her business and scale its operations.

Why Does DreamRise.Co Need to Become A Reality?

There are 8-10 million female-owned small-to-medium enterprises in emerging markets.

Women-owned SMEs in these markets have continuously proven that they are capable of a higher percentage annual growth rate than male-owned SMEs.

Yet, in the Middle East alone, 68% of small and up to 75% of medium female-owned enterprises are going underserved or ignored when it comes to credit needs and access to capital.

The difference in access to capital and resources has reduced the output of companies and overall economic growth throughout emerging markets.

DreamRise.Co is made to combat these statistics and lopsided ratios, by bringing together a community of backers to be a part of women entrepreneurs' success in building larger, more scalable businesses, and thus creating strong economies with more women at the forefront.

What Can I Expect From DreamRise.Co?

We have already signed up three women business owners to tell their stories and crowdfund for their businesses' future growth on DreamRise.Co, as well as several contributing writers and bloggers for our Disruptors Magazine online.  Our goal is to start small, making sure that each woman’s story we feature is accurately represented and communicated on her crowdfunding page.

Our content is moving, inspirational and most important?  We’re straight from the source.  We’ve already created lasting relationships with women entrepreneurs, business leaders, and internationally recognized organizations from the UAE, Jordan and the United States, to bring you the untold stories of women you won’t hear about in mainstream media.

What’s even better?  You too will become part of their stories.  As backers of growing female-founded enterprises, their success will be yours.  The reward you receive in the mail from backing one of their businesses will only be outweighed by the pride and satisfaction you will feel after pressing the “pledge” button on our platform.

Each woman that posts her profile on our site will not just receive a chance to crowdfund much-needed capital for her business.  We will also offer them the opportunity to be repeat contributors within our online Disruptors Magazine, allowing readers and backers to follow the stories of their favorite DreamRise female founders.

Want to Get to Know More Women Entrepreneurs?

So do we!  That is why we will be updating our Kickstarter campaign page along the way with short video clips of our favorite women entrepreneurs here in the Middle East.  They may give advice, ask questions of their own, or tell their stories.  Stay tuned as those new features come along!

We are also taking submissions from women entrepreneurs in the Middle East to tell their story on DreamRise.Co and our Kickstarter campaign page!  Click here for more info and to submit your story now! http://bit.ly/yrdreamrisestory

Who is the Team Behind DreamRise?

Jacqueline Sofia (Founder & CEO) is a humanitarian and social entrepreneur. A former Fulbright Fellow (2011-12), Jackie has spent the past five years championing the stories of women from all ages and backgrounds, from inner city Baltimore to Jordan. Spending most of her time in Jerash Camp, a Palestinian refugee camp for ex-Gazan refugees, she worked intimately with local women to develop capacity building programs that focused on soft-and-hard skill development. Jackie most recently worked with Hopes for Women in Education to co-found Sitti Soap Company, an all-women social enterprise in Jerash Camp. DreamRise is inspired by every woman she has met along the way who has dared to disrupt the female stereotypes of victimization and inferiority, bringing forth perseverance, courage and hope in their wake.

Jessica Q. Chen (Creative Director) is a freelance journalist and video storyteller. She most recently produced videos and developed the website and digital strategy for Qatar Foundation International, an organization that bridges the Middle East and Americas through education. Prior to that, she was an editor for Entrepreneur.com, specializing in technology and marketing for women entrepreneurs. Jessica believes amplifying women's voices can transform and inspire communities as well as disrupt the narrative of women leaders around the world.

Jim Maguire (CFO) Has over 17 years of financial and operational leadership experience working for small to medium-sized high-tech and life sciences companies. Throughout his career, Jim has held senior financial positions having primary responsibility for accounting, finance, treasury, financial planning and reporting, risk management, tax planning, analyzing acquisitions, operations planning, investor relations and corporate communications.  He also has extensive experience working closely with legal, human resources and product development groups.  In addition, Jim has eight years of experience working as an Audit Manager at two public accounting firms, most notably Ernst & Young LLP.  Jim is a certified public accountant in New Jersey.  More importantly, he is an active community member in his hometown, and has spent the past 11 years coaching youth sports teams. He is now excited to branch out and become a part of the DreamRise community.  Jim is an example of how men are also playing integral roles in the empowerment of women entrepreneurs worldwide.

How does the Budget Breakdown?

In order to complete DreamRise.Co and give women the opportunity to access capital for their businesses, we need to access capital for ours!

We take financial projections very seriously.  We want to make sure that we're offering these women entrepreneurs the best experience possible through our platform, and that means investing wisely what we raise on Kickstarter.  Feel free to check out the budget breakdown below and shoot us an email or comment with any questions!

How Will DreamRise.Co sustain itself after its anticipated launch in February 2015?

Great Question.  We see our company as a social enterprise, but that does not mean that we don't operate like any other successful company.  Our company is, after all, based on the notion that success can lead to further innovation and growth when given the means necessary.

Once the DreamRise.Co platform launches, it will be an "all-or-nothing" crowdfunding model.  Therefore, if a woman entrepreneur's campaign is successful in reaching its funding goal, we will retrieve a 7% commission of her achieved funding.  If she is unsuccessful in reaching her goal, we will retain nothing.  Funds will simply be re-distributed back to her campaign backers.

DreamRise.Co's crowdfund campaigns will operate on a one-time, reward based system.  As you see on our own Kickstarter campaign page, each woman-owned company will offer up rewards unique to her enterprise and each backer level of funding!  If she owns a stationary shop and is looking to raise funds for a second storefront, that campaign may offer rewards of various hand-crafted and uniquely designed stationary supplies or gifts from her shop.

This model also offers backers the opportunity to see proof of the woman's business they are supporting!

Risks and challenges

Nothing will keep us from creating DreamRise.Co, once we are funded!

Our team has already done some pretty amazing things to bring DreamRIse.Co to its current state: We’ve moved halfway across the world (literally), given up 6-figure salaries (and generally gone without salaries), learned Arabic (not yet fluent, but we’re working on it!) and we have poured our heart and soul into this project. Why? Because we believe in its ability to change the lives of women entrepreneurs.

We will continuously provide updates on our timeline, up until our launch in early 2015. If you decide to become a permanent member of the DreamRise community, we will keep you on our email list and you will be able to continue watching DreamRise.Co develop into the most popular and inspiring place for women entrepreneurs and their businesses online!

REWARD DELIVERY:
Sending packages from our location in Jordan can sometimes be delayed. However, we will do our best to make sure your reward for backing DreamRise.Co is at your doorstep as quickly as possible if we reach our goal. Your support means everything to us, and no international shipping limitations will stand in our way!

DISCLAIMER:
We do not claim that DreamRise is the path towards "saving the world" and every woman in it.

First of all, women don't need saving!

We want to simply give women entrepreneurs a tool to use out of their own volition, and decide if their business is ready to take the next step in growing and scaling-up. We want to give them a platform where they make that announcement to a community that believes in them just as much as they believe in themselves.
