We're excited to reveal our plans beyond getting Flag running on iOS. With your help we can launch on more than one platform and bring Flag to more people on day one.
When we reach $150,000 we will commit to develop for Android in parallel with our iOS release and launch both platforms at the same time.
When we reach $200,000 we will develop apps for Mac and Windows which make it easy to print photos from your computer without having to access them through your mobile device.
When we reach $250,000 we will develop for Windows 8 mobile in parallel with iOS and Android and launch all three platforms at the same time.
Sharing photos online is great, but you can’t hang an iPad on a wall, you can’t look at two photos at once on a phone, and sometimes it’s nice to turn your screens off.
Unfortunately printing photos is expensive, quality is hard to guarantee, and styling options tend to be limited to rectangles with or without white borders.
Flag is an app for iPhone and iPad designed to change that.
Select 20 photos from your camera, Facebook, Instagram or favorite social network and tap ‘Print’. Flag will print and mail your pictures to you, or someone you love, free. No shipping, no handling, no BS.
Flag can print and ship packs of 20 prints free within the US, or internationally for a fee. We intend to make free printing and shipping available internationally as fast as possible.
Flag prints your photos using museum quality (Giclée) printers, on German 220 gram photo paper from sustainable sources, laminated for long-life and durability. We intend to make them the best prints you’ve seen.
An ad on the back of each photo allows us to deliver prints for free. Don’t like ads? Blank prints can be ordered for a small fee. Ads will always be tasteful and we will encourage advertisers to make them inspiring.
We know that managing your personal information is a huge responsibility and, we take your privacy very seriously indeed.
We want Flag to feel like a part of your phone or tablet. Simple, beautiful and reliable. Something you use often but don’t have to think about. Fast, so you can spend more time taking photos and living life.
To save you the taps needed to englare and reduce an image, you can peek at photos, of any size or shape by tilting your device. We don’t have to waste precious screen-space on empty borders, and it makes Flag a little bit faster and more fun for you.
Apps make it easy to filter, treat and effect photos. Printers don’t. Flag uses laser-cutters to make your real prints as versatile and varied as virtual ones.
Most printers charge extra for square prints. With Flag they will be free. Better yet you can mix and match shapes and sizes in every print pack you order.
We can cut rounded corners and scallops for a vintage feel...
...and 2 micron precision means trimming capabilities are essentially limitless. Even when making a regular borderless print, precision changes what's possible in terms of quality.
Poster-size prints needn’t be a luxury. Jigsaw enlargements rely on the precision of Flag’s laser cutters to divide one big print into sections small enough to mail for free. Complete the jigsaw on delivery to return your photo to its full-size glory.
Turn any photo into a postcard. Pic an image, type a note–or hand write on your touch-screen–and tell us where to send it. Use any of Flag’s customization features compatible with postal regulations and we’ll print your custom postcard and mail it from within the US at local rates. We can mail internationally if you need us to, or send blank postcards to your home or hotel too.
There’s a reason everyone outside an ad agency calls it junk mail.
Ugly, unwanted and intrusive, junk mail relies on people’s inability to stop it from arriving and the dark science of making annoying strangers profitable.
Flag turns that model on its head. You, your company or cause, are not sending junk, you’re sponsering gifts. Your ads, and the photos they fund, are looked forward to, shared and cherished. You can join the ranks of people who aren't doing horrible stuff.
Junk mail is sent slowly in bulk, gets glanced at if you’re lucky, and is then quickly thrown away.
Flag will deliver your ad by first-class mail, in a sealed envelope, matched to a photo we can guarantee the recipient has asked for, or been sent as a gift.
Your ads don’t need to plead for attention because the photo, caption and metadata is something the recipient wants. That means you don’t need a designer and can use one of our templates without compromising your ads effectiveness. Hooray for the little 'guy'.
Below we’ve tried to compare like-with-like so you can see how your ad spend will compare with Flag and junk.
We’ve assumed junk mail is sent at normal postcard rates as adding the cost of Flag's first-class postage, and including the delivery tracking Flag will offer, would increase the cost of sending junk mail to a point where it would be a source of incredulity. Junk mail simply can’t match what Flag will offer.

Risks and challenges
We have been working on Flag for three years and have meticulously planned for the demands of launching an ambitious project.
The money we raise will fund the development of our iOS app and our integration with partners supplying materials and equipment. If we beat our target we can also build infrastructure and hire the people we'll need to expand Flag to new platforms.
Our ability to deliver prints relies on making deals with advertisers who'll pay for your printing and postage and we are already talking to a number of significant potential advertisers.
We can produce prints ourselves, or through outsourcing arrangements, and we are in professional contact with the companies we will need to partner with in order to fulfill via either method.
Yes. We plan to make expanding the number of platforms we support beyond iOS the objective of our stretch goals should we get lucky enough to reach them.
No. At launch we'll only have infrastructure to support shipping free within the US. However we plan to expand to other countries as fast as we can, starting with Europe and Canada. If you support us from a region we can't ship to for free your rewards will not expire. You could also use our paid services and pay regular shipping. We're going to try and make this as simple as possible.
