About this project
"It is the epitome of minimalism." -- Lazytechguys.com
What is the BEZL?
The BEZL is a case for the iPhone 4/4S that protects the screen and glass back while adding very little bulk. It consists of four small corner pieces that you place on the corners of your iPhone. The BEZL stays in place with the help of an adhesive backing. The BEZL comes in seven fantastic colors.
The BEZL came about after I got frustrated with the currently available iPhone cases -- I wanted a case that would not interfere with the touch screen swiping motion and keyboard, would still protect the glass front and back of the phone, but would not add the bulk often found with the rubber or other plastic cases. The BEZL does not cover up your iPhone's switches and buttons, so you retain the touch and feel that Apple originally intended.
What stage is the project in currently?
I have CNC-machined prototype corners and installed them on my phone. I also have experimented with different adhesive backings and dropped my phone about 30 times on concrete from hip height (still works, and the BEZL is fine too). I am also telling anybody that will listen about the BEZL. The more I use it on my phone the more I like it -- you should have one too!
What will you use the money for?
I want to fine-tune the shape of the BEZL, and machine another set to see how it looks. Then, an injection molder will machine tooling for the part. Running six custom colors adds cost as well, but I feel having awesome colors is important. The adhesive backing also has a die associated with it. There you have it...I need cash to bring this cool product to all of us. The BEZL is designed and made in the USA.
Is the BEZL removable?
Yes. The BEZL is meant to be semi-permanent to your phone, but you can remove it. The little bit of residue left behind can be cleaned in about a minute with window cleaner and a paper towel.
Does the BEZL work with my dock?
Yes, most likely. BEZL works with most docks that can hold the iPod classic, but I haven't tested them all. I tried every dock at my local Best Buy, and the BEZL worked in all 40 docks I checked except for two. See the FAQs for a complete list of which ones work.
Won't the BEZL come off when I pull it out of my pocket?
This is a question that was raised by several of my friends, so I though it worthy to adress here. I tested the first prototype BEZL for 10 days wearing snug jeans, and had no issues. The second prototype (shown in all the photos) has been on my phone for close to a month now, and also has not pulled off during daily use. The final BEZL will have a lower profile and rounded edges and an industrial-strength adhesive, so I feel confident the BEZL will not catch on your clothing and pull off.
What's in the box?
You will receive 4 BEZL corner pieces + one spare, just in case.

MADE IN THE USA!
I am slowly compiling a list of docks that are compatible. My standard test is to plug in my iPhone, make sure it charges, and play some music (my test song is Não Deixa Samba Morrer by Alcione). I am keeping a spreadsheet here: http://bit.ly/Kd7Qkt with compatibilities -- please check to see whether your dock is there. If not, message me and I will do my best to find it and test it.
At this time, the BEZL is not meant to be compatible with screen protectors. I want the BEZL to fit as snugly as possible with your iPhone, and accommodating a screen protector would add about .005" of additional gap the BEZL. That may not sound like a lot, but it will reduce how well the corners fit on phones without protectors.
If you did want to use one, you would have to clip off the corners of the screen protector so it would not interfere with the BEZL. In the future, I may add a BEZL-shaped screen protector, so people who want them have a solution.
