* An important update...
* If the funding goes above $3000, the book will be even bigger (and better!) than I had planned, with more farms & more photographs & more recipes! Yay!
Let's spread the word and make this book bigger & full of more local farms!
My name is Kimberly Peck, and I am an artist and photographer. I received my first camera at the age of seven, fell in love with farms in the first grade, and now focus on agricultural and portrait photography. I am very excited to launch my Farm, Food, Life book project here on Kickstarter! I would like to thank you, dear reader and video watcher, for taking interest in my project!
Growing up in Vermont, I was surrounded by the amazing farms along the Connecticut River Valley. Now, as I make my home in the beautiful Monadnock Region of southern New Hampshire, I am once again surrounded by fertile hills and valleys that have long sustained family-run farms and local agriculture. Over the past few years, with the increasing interest in homegrown food, the Monadnock Region has attracted a new generation of farmers to work its fertile soil.
In 2011, drawing inspiration from my childhood in Vermont and my home in the Monadnock Region, I began photographing local farms to support the growing local food movement and to feed my passion for documentary photography. The goal of my farm series is to use the visual narrative of photography to connect farmers and their communities. I want people to see who is growing their food and to understand the hard work that goes into farming. The resulting photographs compel us to think about the food on our plates, where it came from and who grew it. Every farm has a unique story to tell, and through the photographs, each farm has the opportunity to share theirs. My farm photography continues to evolve into an inspiring and creative exploration of local agriculture. During the past three years, I have documented over thirty farms, with more visits planned this year.
The response to my farm photography has been extremely positive, and I now want to turn my photographs into a self-published book, Farm, Food, Life: Photographs and Recipes Inspired by Local Farms. The book will be available at area shops, farm stores and online. Farm, Food, Life will feature photographs, farmer profiles, and recipes showcasing local ingredients produced by the featured farms. Along with professional cook & farmer Sarah Heffron of Mayfair Farm, in Harrisville, NH, we have created approachable recipes geared toward all levels of cooks and bakers...how yummy is that?
Farm, Food, Life: Photographs & Recipes Inspired by Local Farms
With your generous support and
happy “let’s get this book published!” energy, I will be able to:
* Hire a graphic designer.
* Create and publish my Food, Farm, Life book, featuring my photographs, interviews with local farms & farmers, and delicious recipes that showcase the homegrown ingredients produced by the farms.
If the full funds are raised, the book will go to print in October, with delivery into local shops, farm stores and online in time for the holiday gift-giving season.
** If more than the campaign amount is raised, I will be able to add more featured farms, more photographs and more recipes to the book! **
I hope that you will join in my excitement to make this project successful!
You have my deepest and most sincere thanks for watching my video and reading this campaign ~ and thank you for helping me to put my art out into the world! With thanks and appreciation to Devon Clough for her amazing video and musical talent, and to Dan and Ruth Holmes at Sunnyfield Farm for a wonderful afternoon at their farm.
Many thanks, Kim
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge to this project is financial. I am 100% dependent on your wonderful support for meeting the campaign goal and getting this book published. The funds raised here will go to graphic design & publishing - I will not be pocketing any money from this campaign. With Kickstarter running on an 'all or nothing' process, if the full funds are not raised, I receive no money and I will be forced to cancel the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
