"Violence isn't always evil. What's evil is the infatuation with violence." Jim Morrison
My billboard is LIVE for September & October on I-95, in the heart of Miami's rush hour commute. As part of For Freedoms 50 State Initiative, the "largest creative collaboration in the history of the United States,"I hope to stimulate dialogue and remind people that the extreme gun violence we now see daily in America cannot become our new normal. This nationwide campaign features artist-produced billboards in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico ... going up across the country this fall in advance of the midterm elections. I have two young sons, smart, silly, inquisitive beings that I consider my greatest creations. My oldest was about to enter first grade on the day twenty six-year-olds were massacred in their first grade chairs at Sandy Hook. I still can’t process a man walking up and down those little aisles shooting each child in the face with an AR-15. How did we get here? Like so many, I believed this would be a turning point for our country. Shockingly, gun violence has only gotten worse since, a reflection of our country’s greater devolution from noble collective principles to fear-based and selfish priorities.
My billboard and simultaneous social media campaign build on my ongoing series of site-specific and video installations aimed at connecting all citizens, regardless of politics, in our collective love for our children and their safety. I believe that, in this fundamental, love-based connection, we can unite to bring society back to a less militant and violent place.
My father served in the US Army and my grandfather and uncle in WWII. I believe guns play a critical role in our society. But they have gotten out of control. The U.S. gun homicide rate is 25 times that of other high-income countries. That's simply barbaric. We now have a chance to elect politicians who share this centrist attitude and will act to improve the safety of every American.
This billboard costs me $5000 each month. We hit our first $4000 goal in just 5 days to cover our first month. But, no rest for the weary! We're working just as hard to achieve our STRETCH GOAL - $10,000 TO RUN THIS BILLBOARD FOR TWO MONTHS ... right up to midterm election day. Together let's move the needle toward a better society. Step up, Donate and Spread the Word.

Risks and challenges
Florida is an absolutely crucial midterm state at both the federal and state level. If this Kickstarter campaign succeeds and we actually raise at least $10,000, I will run this in Florida for a second month leading up to the day of the midterms. If gun issues are important to you, help me share this message both locally and nationally via social media and press. Let's fix the world!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
