UPDATE 2: AMAZING. We're almost there! As promised on Twitter, here's a track from the record. This one's called Woods.
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who has backed the project so far - you're amazing. I've uploaded a video of a live take of Lie to Me, the first track off the record. Check it:
Oh man. You guys.
I'm really excited about this project.
In early April, I recorded a handful of songs at Twisted Penguin studios in Spenard with Evan Phillips (The Whipsaws) behind the mixer. What we planned to be an experimental session turned into an incredibly fleshed-out EP. An EP that is now mixed and ready to be pressed to disc.
Here's where you come in:
A large portion of my income is derived from album sales at shows. Moreover, it puts my recordings in fresh ears. Sadly, it costs money to make CDs. A lot more than you'd think - once you factor in packaging, reproduction and (ugh) shipping to Alaska.
This Kickstarter project would help defray the costs of making CDs and compensate Evan, our amazing engineer Bennett, and the proprietors of Twisted Penguin who were gracious enough to let me use their studio space up front.
Wait, wait, wait. So I pay you a lot of money but it's not all of what you're asking? What's that two grand all about?
Kickstarter allows artists like myself to set fundraising goals that backers can contribute to. If you can spare $5, you get a first-tier reward. If you live in Tuscaloosa and you throw in $1200, I fly there with my guitar and a copy of the record to sign after playing a set in your house for you and all your friends.
You won't be charged anything until the campaign ends in mid-May. Here's the only catch: If I don't hit my goal of $2000, no one gets any rewards and I'm very sad.You don't want to see a large Nordic man cry, do you? Do you!?
(Trust me. You don't.)
So since it's so crucial to hit that goal, I'm asking one more thing: Spread the word. I understand what it's like to be cash-poor. If you can only spare a Lincoln, that's totally fine. But if you could also link to this page on facebook, Twitter, Google Plus (that's still a thing, right?), wearing a sandwich board on Northern Lights and Spenard, sending out carrier pidgeons, etc, etc, etc. THAT would make you my favorite person. In the world. Ever.
If you have any questions regarding rewards, details about the record or about this project, head to my website and hit that contact link up top.
And just to reiterate: You are amazing. I thank you in advance.
