About this project
Since 1999, the Van Halen Encyclopedia has been the perfect book to accompany any Van Halen album.
Detailing every song, album, concert or publication the band has ever had anything to do with, the original edition took 2 years to research and write. Updates, tidbits and secrets have been pouring in from all over the world since then, just waiting for a place to be published.
Now that the band has a new album and a new tour, the time is just right to create the book this band has always deserved. But your help is needed.
Support the Van Halen Encyclopedia now and you'll ensure what ends up in your hands is the word in Van Halen reference, using only the best materials and best sources.
Praise for the First Edition
“A must have for all fans! Author C.J. Chilvers has compiled what is easily the most comprehensive gathering of Van Halen-related material since the band's inception, leaving no guitar, unreleased track or significant date unturned.” – The Inside Magazine.
“An extraordinary exploration of the band and its components, this is perfect light reading for all Eddie wannabes while they're waiting for that first batch of finger blisters to heal.” – Blender Magazine.
“Impeccably researched, The Van Halen Encyclopedia is a true labor of love and is an invaluable reference for the VH fan.” – Ken Sharp, The Rock Report.
“I use it non-stop on the air. It is filled with tons of interesting tid-bits that I, being a huge fan myself, enjoy sharing.” - Eddie Webb
“For the die-hard fan, this book is as essential as owning all the albums.” - Grant Fischer
"I've just purchased a copy of this fantastic book and had to drop you a line to say well done and thank you! It's the best read I've read in ages and I wanted to let you know. I haven't been able to put it down since it arrived. It reminded me why I love Van Halen so much!" - Geoff Lloyd
For a book like this, there's a few big expenses: the materials for a high quality book (cloth hardcover and thick bright paper for easy reading), a design that makes it worth keeping around on your shelf for years to come and the amount of time devoted to incorporating 11 years worth of updates.
The last hardcover edition came in at around just over 320 pages. This time it might be 350-400. The number of additions to make is gigantic and the interest in the book, for such an undertaking to be successful, needs to be equally gigantic to make it happen.
Creating a book like this is meaningless without fanatic readers. You have kept this project going for almost 15 years. The band is lucky to have such a loyal following, which is why this book has always been more about the fans than the band. Thanks for making it possible!
