Chris Dimino's The Keyboard Waffle Iron takes something amazing (waffles) and makes it even more amazing (keyboard waffles!). The Keyboard Waffle Iron is easily the most significant union of technology, design, and waffles in the modern age.
Gamers, coders, cubicle jockeys, bloggers, hackers, spreadsheet ninjas, social media socialites... we are all keyboard warriors. The Keyboard Waffle Iron is the fruit of our conquest. And these are the spoils of war:
Please note: after midnight on December 12th, we can no longer guarantee that the exclusive Holiday card will arrive on or before December 25th. Those selecting the Holiday Gift tier (while supplies last) after this date will still get a card mailed on their behalf, but it might arrive slightly after Christmas.
The Keyboard Waffle Iron was designed from the waffle out. The goal? To create a waffle that accurately resembles a computer keyboard, and then build a waffle iron around that. It's designed to be easy to use, portable, versatile, durable, and most importantly - make a delicious, perfectly crispy, perfectly keyboard-shaped waffle!
Over the past 2 years, the countless 3D models, 3D prints, and now fully functioning prototypes have resulted in a design that is extremely simple, with an overall industrial feel but hints of sophistication to make it surprisingly sleek.
Most importantly, it makes a great waffle, with just the right balance of soft and crispy areas that come from the keyboard pattern, and the thickness (just under 1") for a perfect portion.
Using The Keyboard Waffle Iron is incredibly easy and makes a delicious waffle in just 5 minutes:
1. Prep: pre-heat The Keyboard Waffle Iron on any stove, grill, or other cooking surface. Coat lightly with a non-stick cooking spray.
2. Pour: add in your favorite batter recipe (or use a boxed pancake mix). Close the lid and allow the batter to cook for 2-3 minutes.
3. Flip: flip The Keyboard Waffle Iron over to cook the other side for an additional 1-2 minutes. Inside your waffle iron, heat transfer technology transfers your stove's heat into the waffle, changing the gooey liquid batter into a crispy, flaky waffle. It's like we took the bread-altering magic of toasters and made it even more magic, because waffles are better than toast.
4. EAT!
Once you've mastered the basics, it's time to move out of the newbie zone and take on tougher challenges like BluetoothBerry Waffles, the Pumpkin Spiced Bacon Waffle, the Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter Banana Waffle, the Tomato Basil Mozzarella Wafflepanini and much, much more. Don't worry, The Keyboard Waffle Iron makes it easy and we'll even give you our Kickstarter exclusive digital Waffle Cook Book for the recipes!
To show our appreciation for our Kickstarter supporters, not only are we giving you the chance to be one of the first to own The Keyboard Waffle Iron, we've created several special rewards that are only available to our backers.
We want to extend a very special thank you to Peanut Butter & Co. for partnering with us on this reward tier! Look for their amazing PB recipes in the included PDF recipe book. Please visit their website at www.ilovepeanutbutter.com/
Chris Dimino is a Brooklyn-based graphic artist and designer and graduate of the School of Visual Arts (SVA), where The Keyboard Waffle Iron was born. Tasked with designing a new purpose for an old, familiar item, Chris chose a Corona-matic typewriter and gave it new life as a waffle iron:
When the internet discovered the image in Chris' online portfolio, many were quick to share it with others. Over 100 websites and blogs, including Boing Boing, Wired, Gizmodo, and George Takei's popular Facebook page, have featured the image. To date, the Corona-matic Waffle Iron has been viewed millions of times and generated hundreds of thousands of likes, comments, and shares.
As you can see in the video above, there's a common thread to the majority of the comments: people want The Keyboard Waffle Iron to be a real thing. They want to own one for themselves. After two years of design, and with your support of this Kickstarter campaign, they finally can!
Thank you very much for your support. Because you asked for it, we'll shut up and take your money now. :)
The people below have impacted the project in some significant way over the past 2 years. Special thanks to Michael Frank for helping make this product a reality. Thanks to Jeff Koenig and Alana Jackler for shaping this campaign, and thanks to Jill Sarver for your patience and guidance!

Risks and challenges
Leading up to this point, this project has faced its share of hurdles and has overcome them all. A great working relationship with the manufacturer has been established and initial problems have been worked out. Given the simplicity of this product, the most common concerns involve moderate delays in shipping.
Know the risks:
-Pantone matching for color versions may slightly vary but hopefully you don't turn red just because your waffle iron didn't!
-While the waffle cooking area remains the same, the logo on the outside may differ slightly from the current prototype. Thankfully you're not the least bit superficial, it's what's on the inside that counts.
- When shipping the product, a delay in customs may delay delivery. On the upside, your waffles would taste worldlier when you finally make them.
-The zombie apocalypse. It could happen and it may cause a disruption in the shipment of your Keyboard Waffle Iron. At that point, however, you will probably be more concerned with keeping your brain from being eaten.
-The biggest risk of all: NOT pre-ordering The Keyboard Waffle Iron! Remember, you put the FUN in funding!
