About this project
Mom discovered the Scottish games this year. Thanks to her incredible talents and freakish strength for her size, we all quickly realized that she needed to travel to bigger and more competitive games next year!
Problem: The big competitions are spread all over the U.S. Travel costs a lot of money.
Solution: We do this Kickstarter campaign to raise money for materials to make custom, hand-turned, amazing wooden pens. We use those pens as rewards for all our backers, and also to sell on our Etsy site to raise the money to send Mom to competitions.
Only issue: Dad going wood and glue crazy in the garage! Not really, we're pretty sure he's already crazy.
The rewards for this project are pens from Dad's garage workshop. Now, if you are used to seeing wooden pens online, I'm sure you are used to seeing something like this:
To us, that's just not creative enough! Instead, we are offering the following as our rewards. We cannot guarantee these exact ones because every one Dad makes is different!
Slim-line pen (for donations of $30 or more):
Roadster Pen (for donations of $40 or more):
Cigar Pen. A pen with a much larger barrel for people who like big pens or who have bigger hands. Plus, just an impressive pen! (donations of $50 and more):
As for the "Masterpiece" pen we mentioned for the $200+ backers. I can't tell you much more about it! There are pen kits out there that are both impressive and expensive, along with woods that I haven't used yet because they are rare and also quite expensive. What I can tell you is that I will search out a unique combination of these and make a pen that I consider to be a masterpiece. I will likely make these last to take advantage of all possible experience and expertise, and get you something you will likely want to keep in a display case.
Risks and challenges
Very few, except for things like natural disasters, our house or garage burning down, and Mom kicking Dad out for talking too much about the most recent pen-based masterpiece that looks a lot like the last thirty he made. It isn't, of course, but it starts to look that way after thirty pens!
More seriously, the chance of the kits or the woods going out of stock or unavailable is negligible. Any issues with the deadline will be resolved by simply having Dad sleep less, and work more, which has been done many times before!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
