About this project
"Creating art together in a public space encourages dialog between strangers and allows everyone the access and opportunity to discover the power of art."
(Lauren and Lisa - Art is Moving)
Take 5: Art Break Day is a community ARTreach event where the public is encouraged to sit down and take art breaks for FREE across 5 cities in the Bay Area, California. Imagine walking into the center of a city and seeing a group of people around a table chatting, sharing, and getting to know one another through the act of making art together. In the “heart” of each city canopies will house tables with an array of art supplies including paint brushes, paper, pencils, paints, crayons, and other graphic tools. Passersby will be invited by an art mentor to take a seat and take an art break for free. Local musicians will be present in order to create a more relaxed and fun environment.
Take 5: Art Break Day is a creative means to our goal of making art accessible to the wider public as well as provide that public with the tools to make art. Through this event we hope to further push the concept that creating art is valuable for both the individual and the community at large. We believe that by offering an art break to the public, participants will gain appreciation for art making and continue the practice in the future.
We are in our final 30 days and cannot wait for Take 5: Art Break Day. Your generous donation will go towards our final needs of marketing materials (banners, signage, postcards, fliers) so we can get the word out, gifts for our awesome volunteers, our artist stipends, and last minute art supply needs.
Planning and implementing Take 5: Art Break Day is a year long process. Lauren and Lisa work on average 20 hours per week to make everything happen. Hundreds of phone calls are made to reserve spaces, get to know each community, raise money, organize volunteers, meet with art mentors, spread the word about this amazing event, and more!
We greatly appreciate you taking the time to consider our project and make a donation to our campaign to make art accessible to the masses so everyone has the opportunity to discover the power of art!
