Triad Chess is a three way chess game that can be played in two ways… as a strategy game like regular chess where you move into your opponent's space and remove the piece, replacing it with your own. And as a Battle Chess game where the two pieces go to the battle circle, and only the victor returns to the space that was contested. This changes the strategy as you go. The fact that there are three players makes the game very intriguing and difficult. Developed to be played with counters or 25 mm figures, this game takes one 11x 17 board FREE download that you need to print.
Finally there is Triad the RPG, with three ways to play. As a simplified RPG where again you are the "Fey" running three characters, the armored Cavalier, the crafty Ranger and the powerful Mystic. You must decide how to play each of the characters in a team as the Game Master sets you on a task. This variant can be played with multiple players. There is the advanced version as well where you are one of the three possible character types, playing a single character that hopes to be "called" to serve in a triad. This version of Triad the Game takes a lot more role playing and because there is no resurrection in the game, you need to really watch your step. The balance of power in Triad the Game is very interesting, with multiple city states and a world that allows the game master to create any number of varieties of story lines. Almost any folk tale or fable can be used as a scenario. The advanced RPG version of Triad has one of the toughest role playing rule sets you may come across. Limited magic and a very dangerous combat system combine to force players to make sound decisions, and role play instead of just roll playing. Fortunately it is easy to create a new character in this game system. Character sheets are in the Rule book or available as a FREE download.
The third version is a war game called Squad Wars, where you command a squad of 10 or more warriors and battle to win in exciting historical or fantasy scenarios. You can devise the scenario that you want to play, add magic or not, and play with armies as large as you wish. The rule system can be used for squads or armies of different historical periods all the way through the renaissance period, or as a fantasy based game. Developed for use with 25 mm figures, but can be used with 1/72nd or up to 35 mm figures as well. Squad sheets are in the Rule book or available as a FREE download.
If you wish to play only the RPG there are not any downloads necessary to play. All three games are played with only 6 sided dice.
"Triad the Game" is already finished and is available for the public to purchase from Amazon, Create Space and TFAPress.com. We are not trying to raise funds to complete the project but rather funds to launch it in the competitive gaming universe. The more we make on this fund raiser, the more gaming conventions and game shops we will be able to visit to teach folks how to play "Triad the Game". We hope to be able to raise enough that we can buy actual ads in gaming magazines and on other venues.
This version of "Triad the Game" is packaged with the special Kickstarter Cover. After we have finalized our rewards, we will repackage the game and this cover will no longer be available.
"Triad the Game" has wonderful art work by some great artists including Mike Grell, Doug Herring, Vivian Lee, Jordin Mitchell, Kat MacKay and my self, Dameon Willich. As we grow we will be adding expansions to the game, such as city state expansions, scenarios and maps packs. We will also be adding additional artists to the project. There is also a 7 novel tie in by Darragh Metzger, already finished and available from Amazon, Create Space and TFAPress.com. Longer range goals include the graphic novel mini-series and possibly a webisode series.
Risks and challenges
Seeing how I already funded the actual game project out of pocket, there should be no further delays at this point. What delays we did experience were in getting the art finished on time because of the busy schedules of some of our collaborators. And of course finishing up a video for this launch due to weather. (Hard to film a "Summer country" video in the snow!) However we did finish all of those things and we plan to continue with this project, hopefully with your help. Our next challenge is of course this Kickstarter. Being new to the concept, we are making a lot of mistakes. But with some assistance from our new friends, and some old ones, we will overcome them. Our next goal is to start working on the expansions, which will add new challenges. We hope that you find our project worthy of your interest and your contribution.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
