Fall Season 2013
444 Days is a tangled web of love, betrayal and espionage written by Golden Thread artistic director Torange Yeghiazarian, directed by Darvag Theatre group founding member, Bella Warda.
Urge for Going, a searing and funny family story by Mona Mansour, directed by Golden Thread artistic associate, Evren Odcikin.
Premiering October 2013, is the timely 444 DAYS: Can anything survive decades of secrecy, broken promises, and political intrigue? Laleh, an Iranian revolutionary, and Henry, a diplomatic attaché, meet for the first time in 25 years as Laleh’s daughter lies in a coma. The last time they spoke was when she held him hostage for 444 days at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran along with 52 other Americans. International espionage and family secrets mesh in unexpected ways in this World Premiere play by Golden Thread’s award-winning artistic director.
URGE FOR GOING is coming! November 2013 launches the West Coast Premiere for this fabulous play. In this smart father-daughter drama, the award-winning playwright Mona Mansour poses a heartfelt question: What do you do when the only way to live is to leave? Jamila, a studious 17-year-old Palestinian girl growing up in a Lebanese refugee camp, feverishly prepares for the university exam that is her only way out of the impoverished world she calls home. Winner of the 2012 Whiting Writers’ Prize and Middle East America honorable mention, Mansour offers a feast of personalities and juicy dialogue in this searing and funny family story.
Theatre for All Ages
Invest in 2013 program development for our latest installation of Fairytale Players to come alive as never before. For those who enjoyed RUMI x 7, the next installation of Islam 101 will be equally riveting. Supporting our Kickstarter campaign will contribute to developing the next "Islam 101" play, THE FIFTH STRING: Ziryab's Passage to Cordoba. Development of the play begins in summer 2013, with the finished work to premiere by Spring 2014.

YOU CAN JOIN OUR COMMUNITY WITH ANY AMOUNT TO SUPPORT
While our Kickstarter goal is only a small fraction of our production budget, it will allow Golden Thread to propel our mission of expanding the American canon to include vital voices from the Middle East.
Please spread the word! That's free and gives you a huge return on your time as you inspire this fresh season, a celebration of American theater. THANK YOU!
Kickstarter is ALL or NOTHING. Your funds are only used if we hit our minimum target of $12,500. With your contribution, we can reach our goal. We believe in you! That's why we bring you engaging theater.
Risks and challenges
Since 1996, we have proven ourselves as pioneers in Middle Eastern American theatre. We are seeking outreach through Kickstarter because we believe the international community beyond the San Francisco Bay Area supports us and we would like to document what we do locally to serve theater patrons globally.
Our challenges are those any non-profit in the arts faces: increasing fees and inflation, with decreasing donations from the grant world in the post-2009 global crisis. The main risk we are taking is with our own credit and reputation: we will be late making payments if we don't secure funds in time.
