Detailed Explanation of Stretch Goals

The following information will help to explain our former and current stretch goals in greater detail.  Thank you for your patience and continued support!

We've already achieved this stretch goal, but let me elaborate a little on what this actually means for you and the game.  Nobuo Uematsu, aside from composing the main theme of the game, will compose all major motifs.  We will also be doubling every model in the game that we had formally planned to create; that's everything from NPCs & Monsters to Items & Props, etc.

I hope that clears everything up a bit. It's not as exciting as some of the later goals, but it helps us to not have to use the same model for everything.  Otherwise we would have had to change the color scheme a bit ;)

LVL 1 Green Goblin

LVL 5 Blue Goblin

LVL 15 Red Goblin -  Oooo Scary

When we reach our next stretch goal, we will be able to make all the cities and towns completely explorable.  This would provide a better experience than if you were limited to fast travel between the stores and main buildings of the towns.

We will also be able to implement the ability to customize all non-main playable characters.  Hair colors and styles are just some of a few things we are considering for this function; it's still an early concept so there's no telling what else will be included.

With this goal, Azuregard becomes unlocked for you to explore.  It's not the same overworld that you may attribute to other JRPGs; your characters will not suddenly merge into each other and become one being.  The same group of characters that you use to do battle will tactically roam the world, and when you stop, they will respond by taking up offensive/defensive positions specific to their class and character type.  Much more information will be released in our gameplay update sometime next week.

I am limited as to what I can disclose about the Kraken storyline, as it closely ties into the main story of the game.  However I can tell you that this enormous sea creature has been threatening a coastal fishing village in the far north of Azuregard.  The adventures will briefly come across this monster, but when we reach this stretch goal we will be able expand the Kraken storyline into an arc of it's own.

The Eminence Symphony Orchestra, Nobuo Uematsu, and John Kurlander will all be flown to Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.  Once there they will collaborate on the Project Phoenix music, and record all of the orchestral tracks for the game.

We will also be writing two additional zones into the story, as well as side stories for these areas.  We have some ideas for what we want to include, and we will be able to release more information after this stretch goal is achieved.

We are also in the process of creating a $800,000 stretch goal that will provide additional rewards to mid-tier backers, as well as enhancing some of the content in the game.

We have future stretch goals already in mind, and will be releasing them as we continue to achieve our current goals.

I hope this information helps to more clearly state why we need your backing to reach our stretch goals, and create the best game possible.

shared this earlier in one of the update's comments but figured it'll get more attention here... :)

it's in regards to stretch goals..
i'd like some mini games thrown in... something whacky would be nice. and accessible from the main menu once unlocked would make it even better...
yes, more stuffs added to the game would be nice. special weapon for KS backers, etc...

and... there will not be in-game purchase of any sort (using real money), right?

I don't know if it's feasible but if you could make a shot target render for what the gameplay will look like when you play it would make a world of difference. It could easily boost the kickstarter with another 100k as it would both get existing backers to up their pledges (provided they like what they see) as well as pull in many new backers. A gameplay video would also mean that the gaming media would have an excuse to run another story on this kickstarter which would mean even more exposure.

@Andrey : I didn't mean it like that. What I meant is that you need some materials to need, to be able to see what the game could be in the end (like for torment for example, you have expection to be similar to the previous one, it's easy to see what it will be).
In the case of Project Phoenix it's really hard to know what it'll be, we know who make it, what they already did, but since they worked on many different games it's more harder to know how the game will look like.
I pretty sure almost every backers have a different idea of how the game will be. We all dream of a good jrpg, of something memorable, but mostly just a dream without a big idea to make this dream solid.
So I hope the team will share more of their idea with us =)

Projects like Wasteland 2, Torment or Double Fine Adventure (all top 5 funded projects in game section) were nothing but dreams as they rise their money. That and some big names like Brian Fargo, Chris Avellon or Tim Schafer. And not just few thousands dollars, but $3-4 millions. So people are ok with just a dream sometimes.

    5. 7suna on

@Matthew Mather : not so sure...
It's a great project but if they don't post something else than their will, passion and Uematsu name, I doubt they'll gather more than the double of what they have now.
Most of people want some solid foundation (like gameplay) to bid on a project, not just dream.
The actuals update are for those who already backed the project, to explain more clearly what'll happen. There's still 25days so it's just the beginning, I hope this project will at least make it to the 1M$ step =)

Anyway, this update was good, happy to learn more about the change, and I definitly want the KRAKEN combat xD

I think the first stretch goal is great. Seeing how I only sign up for this kickstarter simply because Nobuo Uematsu was in on it, the more we get from him, the better!

    7. Matthew Mather on

One cannot always predict how a Kickstarter campaign will go, but with almost a half million raised in the first few days, the most expensive goals stand a decent chance of being met. On the other hand, funds may top out at, say, seven and a half hundred thousand for three weeks despite all efforts, and on the last day there will be a rush but still not quite enough to make it to a million. Stranger things have happened, and it's often not obvious why.
Regardless, I have confidence in this project and look forward to the final result.

I really hope you get all your stretch goals, as the music is what honestly makes some of these classic games stick with you for so long. I still go to Youtube and turn on stuff like the Seiken Densetsu 20th Anniversary Medley (…) when I'm working on stuff myself - it's so inspirational and beautiful... and I didn't even really play that many games in the series (just Secret of Mana and Children of Mana). Some of my favorite music of all time is from games, and JRPG's specifically. I mean, there's reason I namedrop people like Yasunori Mitsuda or Motoi Sakuraba when people ask me about my favorite musicians :)

So yeah, I really want to see this thing get to that last stretch goal. I hope you guys have some events (live streams, or let's plays... like Obsidian is doing for Project Eternity now. Or IneXile for Torment? I get those two confused) & updates planned over the next four weeks to keep the attention and hype hot. If there's anything playable - even prototypes - that would make for good stuff. Show off any art. PS4 announcements... anything that will keep people covering Project Phoenix and keep driving backers to this page and pledging money!

Let's all try and recruit as many other people as possible for that to happen.

    10. Socrates on

Oh god, the 1.65 million goal is a full symphonic score? Oh yes please.

    11. Marcos Karal on

Well, didn't had much money to back this project, but I gave what I could. Really excited for this one...

But, anyway, if the 1,025,000 milestone isn't archieved, isn't it better to make it like Trails in the Sky, where your allies just run behind you? Instead of just merging with the main character

We can hit 2 mil on this easy peasy!

    13. Inplainview on

      Very good update. Thank you.

Green, blue, and red goblin...Haha! Good to know everything will be a little more diverse.

Small typo, It's actually Sydney. Unless there actually is some where called Sidney and that is where you intend to record heheh. Otherwise looking good.
