I would love to see more gameplay mechanics concepts, so we get a better idea of how complicated the gameplay will be.
Now that Ori is completed and you are back on track, a small section that is fleshed out would be the most practical thing to calm the nerves of the backers, though.
Thank you for the update. I'll wait and see how this pans out.
what is this shit? It went from promising a Final Fantasy Tactics/Tactics Ogre SRPG to THIS?!?! Are you kidding me? I am NEVER backing another videogame on Kickstarter.
I really wish I could at the very least downgrade my pledge. I want to go back in time and slap myself for the mount of money I pledged hoping for a new "Tactics Ogre" like game. So far all these updates give me an IOS tower defense game...not pleased...
I am still holding onto the faith that everyone listed being on the project do their utmost and make it worthy of their reputation. A good RPG that sets the new benchmark for the future.
I'm still looking forward to this project. Hang in there!
I don't like hoping on the negative bandwagon on campaigns, but this one is very disappointing. I only backed $25 so I can't be too upset, but like others have mentioned 2 years have gone by and this is all there is to show. Really, it's just sad.
I just want to know a few things about this project. 1) Are people really putting in time to develop this game (more than free time on weekends)? 2) Is the story completed and all that needs to be done is production and milestones? 3) Did the AAA talent leave because of the length of this development?
Hope you get around to these comments. This game made TONS of money, yet we haven't seen much of it put to work.
Le sigh, another dud campaign... I don't mind the game being delayed but the videos don't even seem like the art style it advertised...
It's nice to see that the project has not been abandoned. It looks like a lost cause. Fortunately, I can play Diablo 3 in the meantime.
Kickstarter is really like a lottery. This time, it feels like I lost.
Hi Stuart. Welcome to the team! I'm one of the people waiting for months for an answer to my message. I've send it to all known contact addresses, so you should find it also in the KS e-mail box. To be sure, I'll send it again today. Hope Hiro can find the time to reply and concede to my request. Thank you in advance and good luck on the job!
i don't know what to feel about this project! I understand that lots of games are delayed, but at least they're more Advanced than that... it's been two years, there's nothing to show! I'll wait october to really have an opinion, but it's not looking good right know.... i can accept that the game will be released in the end of 2016, but later is not acceptable.... well, as long as we get the game, i can't complain, but i feel there's gonna be a lot of content cut..
This' depressing. Can we get a legitimate Update much sooner than October? Entice us with something better than this at least please...
I appreciate the update but I have given up on this game.
Well this looks nice. We had hints before about hiding and traps, but I think this is the first time they have actually been shown.
To be honest I am glad that I only invested $20, as like many others the lack of progress does not inspire confidence in a quality product being produced any time soon.
I would much rather more honesty regarding projected timelines, progress to date and any financial or resource issues.
There may also be backers who can assist further with time, money or advice to assist the project.
I don't want to add any more negativity, but I think the state of this project is really concerning and as someone looking from the outside with no more information other than the lot of "I'm sorry" updates, it just feels like it's just an abandoned, staffless project.
As questions, I would just love to have a very detailed update on the actual state of the project and the team working on it. How many people are working on it? Does the team have enough programmers? Or artists? Or designers? Etc.
How far into development is it? Are these prototype videos all there is to the game or is it taking shape in some video that hasn't been shown? Why do all these videos look so unfinished? Are there lots of final assets and systems implemented? Where's the design of the game at? Is the story finished, or the game systems fully designed? What steps are being taken to make sure that this game is released?
This game is two years into development, it can't still be in prototyping stage, it raised ten times as much as it asked and had all the hype and love from the community. There were setbacks, that's understandable, but what's unacceptable is how this project seems like it's not even trying to get back on course again. It just looks abandoned, feels like it's Hiro or whoever working a few hours on the weekend on it. Maybe it's not, but none of the updates show anything new and a very rough couple of videos showing simple, barely working mechanics using year old assets just don't give the impression that any real work is being done.
Please if you're gonna keep writing updates about how the project is going, stop being unclear or apologetic and please give some straight answers and solutions to the problems the project's facing.
More rudimentary mechanics? So bland. Give us a demo track or something. Tell us about some fleshed out mechanics you guys have devised for gameplay. This' so basic.....
Hey Stuart, thanks for the update, and for the dedication to getting them out more frequently! Watching games come together is a big part of why I like pledging to Kickstarters, and I hope we'll get to experience more of that with Project Phoenix now.
I'm in game development myself, so I completely understand setbacks can and do occur (way too often). I'm happy to see that you're making progress. Don't let the negative comments below dampen your spirits or kill your motivation. A lot of people seem to not be able to get past the graphic style in the video, which you clearly stated is just placeholder and built in the Unreal 4 engine. I still have faith in this project and this team. Keep up the good work and put out a great game!
At least is more than concept art. It looks very bad in terms of combat yet. The models are looking fine, for the current stage of development. I agree with Jim that it looks really bad given that the project is already delayed and the money spent on it. But I still believe you can manage to make it what it was envisioned to be.
The updates for this project are just getting worse and worse. Over A MILLION DOLLARS and this is what you have to show for it? WIY or not, this is very disheartening. This is not an "indie RPG" as you have in your title. This is a very basic-looking RTS. I do not like the direction this project is going and nothing about it is appealing. Can I get a refund on my pledge please?
Well, this was a waste of money.
It'll be a miracle if a finished product sees the light of day.
Hey Stuart, nice to meet you and good to see Hiro's load is getting a bit lighter. Hopefully, the road forward is smoother. I'm really looking forward to future updates.
It's almost a year past your estimate and it looks disappointing. You put AAA talent right in your headline, but it looks way less than good indie titles have churned out in the same or less time. I'd be ashamed.
Unless there are a lot of things we are not showed, it almost seems there only one person working on the game. This Project had a lot of ambitious and good ideas but at this pace it feels I won't life to see the release of the game.
At least it's nice having an update, thank you for that.
@Rodrigo Varela: +1
I don't have much hopes regarding this game.
Big names, that's almost all.
It blows my mind that after all this time this is what you guys can show. Other projects did better with less funding. I get it, placeholders, WIP, whatever. The gameplay looks unoriginal and boring, the mechanics don't inspire anything or make me want to play it. I still regret having backed this project, my hopes of it becoming good are completely gone.
Oops nevermind my comment, all visuals are placeholders. Should have read to the end, doh!
Thanks for the update, I'm in no rush, take it easy and make an awesome rpg.
take your time guys. You're doing fine as long as your budget doesn't constrain you. :)
@Stuart Massie First, thanks for giving some of your time for Project Phoenix ^^ !
I actually asked a few questions, but got no answers :/ here they are :
"I've got a few questions, that you might ( or not ;) ) answer :
1/ Actually, Project Phoenix is the name of the Project. Do you have the final name of the game ? Or will you let "Project Phoenix" as it's final name ? If it's so, would you consider giving backers a vote for a few names you and the Team will find ?
2/ About others translations, would you let the players make some translations ( like French, Spanish, etc... ) ? Even if you, the Project Team, want to take a look about it, or by making a specific kind of file for the texts to let people make it so in another languages ?
3/About the game itself : it'll be a RTS Squad based, since we reached the " Customization character creation ", will these characters fully customizable ? Like changing classes without downgrading his level ? ( This is a question I've been asking myself since a few months ^^' )
Bonus ( well ... for us, not for you, I do want to ask you >< ) : any ideas for the Alpha release ? ( Don't answer if you do not know, I will, and I think most of us backers will not take it badly if you don't answer ^^ ).
Thanks a lot for your time, and forgive me for my questions, and like a small green and hairy creature said in a famous movie : may the force be with you ( guys ) ! "
Here, thanks you for your time :) !
Hi Stuart, welcome aboard. Thanks for the update, I am glad to see that things seem to be progressing again.
How close are the textures, character models, animation displayed in the video to what we can expect in the finished game? Is it correct to assume the visual elements displayed in these videos are just place holders used to demonstrate different game mechanics?
