Got skills? We do!

Posted by CIA, Inc. (Creator)

Hello Hello!

Budd here with another installment of my life as Community Manager. Ok maybe not, that’s pretty boring. What I do have though, is another doc we managed to take from the guys at game design!! After last week’s update covering the Fog of War and Equipment, we figured we’d release some info on game mechanics and this it relates to skills.

Get on the forums and you’ll find the PDF posted there. Let me know what you think.

Speaking of forums, where are the rest of you people?! I’m not just trying to get you folks to register so I have friends to talk to on the forum, but rather get everyone setup and for Development Builds. I know we’re still ironing out the kinks but it would be awesome if we sorted out any issues with accounts before we start distributing anything. This also helps us to ensure that you’re getting all the rewards that you deserve :)

So if you haven’t registered/linked/relinked/done anything on the forums yet. CLICK ON THIS LINK -->

If you run into any problems, please shoot me an e-mail at . Just remember to provide your username, e-mail address and whether you backed via paypal or kickstarter.

Still looking for artists who want to contribute to the game. Maxime, Eskarian and Sey would be the ones to talk to on the forum. Just shoot them a PM and/or make a post in the Mini game thread.

      I agree with Keith
I find auto combat disengaging and it makes combat boring.
If your decisions don't matter, combat & character skills don't either.
the AI tactics may not be the best nor fit the player strategy...

I have mixed feelings about an AI-controlled party.

In terms of RTS games, this feels most familiar to Warcraft 3. In that game, all your units were operated by an AI. That was expected, and for the most part, it worked well. You could still manually control any given unit, if you wanted to, though.

In terms of RPGs, most people have frequently make comparisons to the Final Fantasy franchise with this game. AI-controlled party members is something that has sucked the soul out of the franchise in the most recent entries. One of the more defining elements of FF gameplay was the ability to control the actions of each party member as their turn came. AI-controlled party was an interesting concept when they first considered it in FF12. However, what you find out is the game is more about finding the optimal way of setting up your gambits, rather than "playing" the game when it all comes down to it. FF13 wasn't much better, in terms of choosing what your party wanted to do. The game essentially went from having a huge selections of abilities down to 6 (the paradigms)...which was a poor decision, in my opinion.

I can understand controlling every party member is difficult to achieve in a real-time game. But it would be nice if we could at least have the option to manually control whoever we were selected on to some degree, rather than just deciding to move, attack, or do our "ultimate". Gameplay that limited isn't very indicative of most "good" rpgs.

Awesome feature ! I have to admit that I'll prefer to use the skills myself...

Will stamina or mana regenerate automatically?

Ummm, good thing that we'll be able to tweak the AI, guess like in Dragon Age, but I'd like to trigger my skills too. Not a complaint, but just a comment. Maybe the whole combat system will work better this way...
      Can't wait to see =)
