What is the movie about?
Just A Kid is an independent short film that follows Julie, a little girl, who misses the relationship she once had with her older brother, Edward, and does all she can to have that back but has some mishaps in the process.
As children, Edward and Julie recreated their favorite films and made a few of their own with their small miniDV camera. Their relationship is strained when Edward finds a girlfriend. When they break up and Edward is heartbroken, Julie makes an effort to regain the relationship she once had with him. In attempts to mend Edward's heartbreak, Julie asks to make a movie like they used to in hopes that it will make him happy again but finds out that Edward's ex girlfriend, Lindsay, has it. Julie sets out on a mini adventure to take back their little camera from Lindsay and to get back at her but things don't go as planned - at all.
Just A Kid explores family relationships by showing what bonds families and siblings together, while revealing that no one should be taken for granted, even if they deserve to be. The film puts both characters in odd, funny, and thrilling positions that help strengthen their relationship. It may even ask you to consider your own relationships.
The Director - Michael Scotti Jr.
Michael Scotti has been making films since he was kid. He has always loved adventure films and Just A Kid pays homage to all of his favorites. Last year he directed the well-received Stand Up. He also worked in the Montclair International Film Festival, leading the video team throughout the year capturing Q&A's, interviews, galas and much more to promote the festival globally. Since then, the festival has received positive criticism for both its videos and its well organized and equally eclectic events.
Just A Kid has been months in the making. Since the idea first sparked in Michael's mind, he has spent countless hours to make it happen. When production time finally came, he spent the necessary time with his cast to get the best performances possible. He has a lot of faith in this film and has put more blood, sweat, tears and nervous breakdowns into this film more than anyone else! He hopes that you'll enjoy it and support it.
The Producer/Assistant Director - Monika Kolodziej
Monika Kolodziej has been involved in film for years! She has worked on countless films throughout her career and has directed a number of well-received shorts. When she's not ruling the set with her stopwatch, she is directing or shooting her own films. She is a graduate of Montclair State University and will be attending Lodz National Film School in Poland where she will earn her Masters in Camera Work and Cinematography. Currently in post-production is her latest short, EXIT, which was greatly accepted at a test screening. The film has high potential to run through the festival circuit so keep an eye out for it!
The Director of Photography - Joshua Echevarria
Joshua Echevarria has been working actively for the last 3 years on shorts, features, documentaries, commercials and television shows. He is a graduate from Montclair State University with an award in film making and focuses primarily on shooting films and intricate cinematography. He shot the film Path to Prologue which had a small run in the festival circuit and won an award for Cinematography. He has also traveled all over the globe to work on films from Haiti to Germany, He is also slated to shoot a documentary in Israel and the Netherlands. Josh always says that he hates film making but it's not true. He loves it. He can't live without it.
How you can help!
We have already shot the film and we are now entering into post production and we have run out of money. We are here to ask you to help donate to our project so we can see it through to the end. We are extremely close to completion and everyone involved has already put all of their hard work, time, and effort into this beautiful project.
To be more specific, we need help with the following to pay for:
-original music score
None of this money will go towards the cast or crew. This is a passion driven project and everyone involved shares the same passion for the film making process. They all share the belief that this film and this story is exciting, fresh, and relevant.
Where is it going????
Well, all of us here at Hello Brother Films have a lot of faith in this project. We've put months of pre-production and production. We each put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this thing and there is no way that we'd just edit it and just put it on a shelf! We're going to submit this thing! Below is a list of festival in which we definitely plan on submitting to:
Sundance Film Festival
Slamdance Film Festival
Tribeca Film Festival
Montclair International Film Festival
and many others!
We have faith that this little production with big dreams will have its run in the festival circuit so help us out so we can get there!
We can not finish this film without you. Please help us. We promise this project is worth it! We want to thank you in advance for even checking this page out. If you know that you can't support us financially, then please just spread the word and share the link with your friends. Thank you so much!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The challenges we may face in post production are truly detrimental to our film. We need multiple backup hard drives for our raw footage. If we lose power during the post production process, we risk losing our only copy of the footage we worked so hard to produce.
Secondly, the production team has created an incredibly visual film; dialogue is truly secondary. Our goal from the beginning was to create a film that was music driven, with very specific sound design that is imperative to driving the emotions home to the audience. We are afraid that without the proper funding, we wont be able to hire a decent composer to create a decent soundtrack for our film. It is truly a make or break aspect of our little film. Our plan is to hire a professional composer.
The film was shot to get as much dynamic range out of the camera as possible so a colorist is necessary! Without it, the film would either remain in a washed out low contrast look (which we would never ever do) or it'd be DIY color correction and none of us are professional colorists! That wouldn't be good, now would it? Color correction is a huge part of all films. It always has been so this is a process that we can't afford to skip!
We understand that problems and setbacks are absolutely inevitable when it comes to filmmaking, but our team is prepared to face any that come our way with ingenuity and persistence. We did not pursue filmmaking to make money, but to create art for the people closest to us and anyone else who wants to pay attention.
