Card Design and Custom Characters
I apologize in advance for the lack of cool pictures, but most of what we've been working on this week has been text based. We have been testing the new tile design that we showed you last week with all of the art to make sure that it works with a variety of background colors and none of the icons get lost. The images look great, but once we printed them we felt like they needed some tweaking. While we finish those, we have also started working some other things.
We don't have anything to show just yet, but we've been discussing quite a bit about how to carry the thematic elements from the new tile design over to the cards. The challenge is that the cards have different "things" on them than the tiles do. Tiles have a name and a bunch of icons, cards have a name, a bunch of text blocks, and a few icons, many of which are in the text blocks. We want them to look thematically consistent and carry over the simplicity and clarity that we have found on the tiles, and so we've been nailing down how to do that. We've gotten the ideas going, and should have a few mock ups done sometime this week to show you.
We have been working with the backers at the Character tier to make sure that we either have or can make a character that fits their personality and playstyle, and so far it has been a ton of fun. Of the six backers, we have one done, and three ready for playtesting. The other two we have a theme and partial mechanics for, but feel like they might be a little underpowered so we are working on tuning them up a bit or adding another ability that fits their theme. Once we start getting pictures for these (and the refugees) we will send them over to Boya so that he can get to work bringing them to life.
