We have been quiet the last few months, but things are still going on around here. We went to WashingCon, MAGFest, Awesome Con and a few smaller local events. We have sent out a bunch of review copies, had a few great reviews come back, and are waiting and hoping for more. Most of our time though has been spent getting expansion content ready.

Expansion Details

The planned additions are 12 new missions, 12 new survivors, 6-10 new enemy types, and 10-12 new hazard types. There will also be a new type of positive tile (more interesting replacements to some of the basic resource tiles) and a new type of "soft" damage and an action to deal with it. Not only will this roughly double the content of the game, but having that many enemy and hazard types will mean that you really have no idea what is coming.

We currently have more than enough content created, and all the big pieces in place. Many of the survivors and some of the missions were put through playtesting during the original campaign, and we are currently retesting those, and testing the rest trying to narrow it down to our favorites. We are hoping to have it ready sometime this year, but we have learned repeatedly that our time estimates are often optimistic, so we will see.

But I want new stuff now!

If you are that excited for new stuff, or just want to be part of the process, we would love to have you help us test. Since you were the first to support the base game, naturally you get first crack at the new content. We will be doing this in two ways: Tabletop Simulator, and Print and Play. Tabletop Simulator will allow us to incorporate the full range of new content, and is quicker and easier to update, so we will be starting that first. If this sounds like fun to you and you own a copy of Tabletop Simulator, here's the plan:

You message us that you are interested.

We friend you on Steam so that you can see the workshop mod with the new content.

We send you a link to our discord server so you can chat, and a link to a google form so that you can submit feedback once you've played.

You play with new stuff and tell us what you think.

Once we get some feedback from that round and are comfortable that at least some of the content is stable we will put together Print and Play files so that those of you without Tabletop Simulator or who just prefer playing on a real table can get in on the fun. These will only be for survivors and missions; our internal attempts to print/proxy all of the new stuff added with actually playing with the new mechanics made for a very unenjoyable and not very useful game.

-Rob and Dave
tag:www.kickstarter.com,2008-10-09:FreeformPost/16067392016-07-08T16:24:29-04:002016-07-10T08:40:26-04:00Shipping Complete!
Aside from a few missing packages that now have replacements in the mail, everyone who backed (and pre-ordered) should now have their game! If not, please get in touch ASAP. With that off our plate, we are looking to finalize the other backer rewards, so those of you that backed at the digital art and art book tiers, thank you for your extra patience. We have also opened the game up for purchase on Amazon, so once you are done showing the game off to your friends they can get their own copy too.

Looking Ahead

We have started to pivot some of our focus and time towards next steps. There has been a bunch of digital housekeeping going on: paring down old versions, reorganizing directories, and cleaning up our main spreadsheet. All of these things had grown tremendously as we worked through the many iterations of everything, but now that all of that is locked in we can safely clean most of it out. This will make sure that the digital versions we are working in reflect what is printed, and that there's only one of them out there. It also makes it far easier to parse through all of the expansion content that is in different stages of development so that we can put that package together and see where we need to look next.

All the content in the world does us no good if we can't get it to print, so we will also be working on getting the remaining copies sold. So far we have spent about $45,000 to get where we are, with $29,000 of that coming from the Kickstarter, with the rest coming out of our pockets. To keep this going, we need to start at least breaking even. Luckily we have about 900 games left to sell that will get us there.

We will be doing some local events and conventions this summer and fall to get the word out, but help from you guys makes a world of difference. A few easy things you can do:

Rate the game on boardgamegeek. It only takes a few seconds if you have an account. If you don't have an account, you should look into it, Boardgamegeek is a great resource.

Review us on Amazon.

Share with your friends, game group, and friendly local game store. The best way to learn a game is to play it with people, and the best reviewers are the ones right in front of you who can answer questions.

In addition to shipping we have been working on an updated gameplay video, which should be done this week. We have also been getting questions, comments, and tales of in-game heroic and not-quite-heroic-enough deeds.

North and South American Shipping

If you are in the US, you should have your game already, or at least a tracking number so we can shake our fist at the shipping company with you. If you are in Canada, or somewhere else in the Americas (We're looking at you Brazil and Argentina) we sent your games out this week, and you should have gotten a tracking email for those. If either of these sentences is not true: either you're in the US and don't have your game, or you're in Canada and don't have a tracking number, please get in touch so we can see what's going on.

European Shipping

Our fulfillment house in London finally checked in our games. The tool for uploading a spreadsheet isn't working however, and we have a support ticket in. While waiting for a response, we entered the shipments by hand, one at a time. You should have emails coming to your shortly with tracking information, so if you don't see one by Thursday please let us know.

Stories and Questions

Once you have your game and you start playing, please let us know how it's going. A Facebook message about a rules question usually gets a pretty immediate response. We have a horror stories post going on our Facebook page too, so feel free to add yours, or message us your best and worst tales and we will get it on the page so everyone can cheer or commiserate with you respectively. If you frequent Board Game Geek, don't forget to rate us there.

It's really exciting to talk to people playing! The boats arrived in both the US and UK early this week, they made it out of customs almost immediately, and ground shipping to the warehouses is complete. The games are currently being checked into the warehouses, and hopefully will be ready to ship to you this week.

As always, thanks for your support and patience!

-Rob and Dave
tag:www.kickstarter.com,2008-10-09:FreeformPost/15635172016-05-04T07:44:40-04:002016-05-12T17:20:12-04:00Last Call for Address Changes
All of the games are on very large boats somewhere in the Atlantic ocean right now, news of which we actually got to hear from our Panda representative in person at Unpub.

Address Changes

The UK bound shipment should arrive sometime this week, with the US shipment a week or two after that. They will still need to clear customs and be shipped to their respective warehouses, but just in case that goes quickly we want to have our shipping list finalized.

To make sure we can get this all ready, we will be disabling address changes Friday morning. If you haven't already, please check that you have entered an up to date address so we have somewhere to send your game.

Unpub

Unpub is a gaming expo solely for unpublished games. We didn't make the cut for an official table, so instead we played other people's games all day. In the evening the hall turned into a giant freeplay area, so we set up Unknown and played a bit more. It was great to talk to other designers, and give and take feedback from that perspective, and we had a blast. We even got a mention on Geek and Sundry along with Body Shop (which we also liked) and some of the other games there.

Now we will leave you with this lesson from the great folks at Games Club of Maryland in what can happen when you explore more hives instead of closing the spawn pit:

Where in the process they are depends on where they are going.

China and Australia

If you are one of our 6 backers in China or Australia, you should already have your copy. If somehow you don't, let us know and we can give you the name of the person that signed for it so you can rough them up a bit. We are sorry that we couldn't give you a heads up, but between the time difference and the fact that it was a very short trip, by the time we got the tracking numbers they were already delivered.

Europe

The pallet of games headed to Europe left Tuesday and is on it's way to port. The current schedule puts them in London the first week of May. Customs estimate is about a week, and then to the fulfillment warehouse, and then to you. This should get them out to most of you sometime in May.

US and Canada

Shipping to the United States, and particularly to Amazon requires a few extra steps. Because of this, the most pessimistic estimate we are getting is that these games will leave on April 30th. On the plus side, the estimate we are getting for travel time is just over 3 weeks, so they should at least be in the country sometime in May. After that it's some time getting through customs, and then to Amazon, but from there it should be pretty quick to get them out to you.

-Rob and Dave
tag:www.kickstarter.com,2008-10-09:FreeformPost/15065892016-03-08T13:22:34-05:002016-05-23T20:45:28-04:00Almost ready to leave the Factory
It has been awhile since our last update, and part of the reason is that every time we get an update almost ready to go, something else happens that we want to add. Here are the bullet points:

The bulk shipping plan (from factory to fulfillment house) is mostly finalized

Fulfillment plans are finalized, so please make sure your address is up to date

Production copies have arrived for final approval, and final assembly is underway

Shipping from the factory

Once the Chinese New Year celebration ended, production finished on the games, and 4 copies were assembled and send to us for final approval. Once we gave our OK, final assembly started on the rest of the copies. Once that is done the games will be sent out in a few different paths.

Games destined for backers in the Americas (and a couple hundred copies for us) will get on a boat to the east coast which should take 40-50 days. Games destined for Europe will get on another boat to London which should be slightly quicker. Once these boats land, they will need to go through customs and then they will go to fulfillment houses to be shipped to you. Games destined for China or Australia will get on a truck or plane respectively and head straight to your door.

Please check your address

If you need to update your address, please do. If you haven't filled out your survey (there are still about a dozen) please do. We will leave the "edit address" option open as long as possible just in case anyone unexpectedly moves, but the fewer last minute changes we need to make, the better.

For the few of you that are in China or Australia, your games will ship directly from the factory. We know some of you are moving around, so please make sure the address we have for you is where you are right now. If you are moving again in the next few weeks, send us a message so we can make sure your game goes to the right place.

Unboxing the production copies

Other File Changes

We started correcting the few issues that we found on the manual, tiles, and quick reference card after we sent the wood changes. While we were doing that, and since we knew the wood samples would take at least a week, we showed the printed items to more friends and family to get another round of feedback. This led to some more changes in word choice, phrasing, and where arrows pointed. The last of these changes were sent over Friday. Since they were all minor text changes on something that looked correct overall, we just need to get digital proofs to confirm that we didn't break anything.

Next Steps

Once we have the wood samples in hand, and digital proofs back we can give the final OK to start production. Once started, the estimate is 55 days of production, after which we will get one final copy to OK. Once that is done, it will be 10 days of assembly, and then they get put on boats to make their way to your region. From there they will go to our fulfillment warehouses and get shipped to you so you can start playing. We don't have direct experience (yet) of having things shipped on pallets on boats across the world, but the best estimates we have found say a little over a month between factory to doorstep. We will keep you posted as things progress.

-Rob and Dave
tag:www.kickstarter.com,2008-10-09:FreeformPost/14052462015-11-05T21:27:34-05:002015-11-10T12:06:28-05:00Pre-Production Copy Review
We received the pre-production copy of the game yesterday afternoon, and once we got the initial excitement under control, we spent the evening going over it and discussing the parts with the production company. Here's what was in it, and a summary of the review:

Manual, Quick Reference, Cards, and Box

Aside from a few small graphic or alignment issues, all of these things looked great. We will be updating the files and resending them to correct the issues. These corrections won't require another physical proof (which saves time) since the changes are so minor and don't change the process at all.

Box Insert

The cards didn't quite fit in the slot due to a different radius on the corners of the cards and the corners of the slots, so that will be adjusted. In the process of that change we will also be deepening the card slot, and the additional wooden bits slot just so we have more room to grow.

Wooden Bits

This was where most of our night was spent. Colors are tricky, especially when going between CMYK on a screen, CMYK printed in a manual or on punchboards, and then Pantone colors on a small wooden piece. We will be changing a few of the paint colors to more closely match their respective icons, and to make it easier to tell them apart.

Sizing was also something we needed to address. For those of you that have played, you might remember that the enemy meeples we are used to look large and menacing next to the player meeples, and that was how we liked it. The meeples we got in the sample look amazing, but aren't big enough to get that feeling, so we are increasing their size to fix it.

Since these changes are pretty substantial, we will need to have samples made with the new specs before we can start mass production. This should be pretty quick (a week or two), but it is more work than the other changes.

-Rob and Dave
