Hello, my name is Megan Stroech and I am an artist currently living and working in Chicago, IL.
The work I make is about an exploration of material and color, and the associations that we bring to these relationships. I use easily acquired materials such as house paint and paper along with faux fur and astroturf. I am interested in making dynamic and thought-provoking work that can still be playful and easily accessible to everyone.
I have been awarded a 10 week long artist residency at the prestigious Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, CO. By traveling to a new environment, I will be immersed in a community of artists and exposed to new experiences which will greatly impact my studio practice. I do not intend to make a profit from this venture, but instead look to use my time to produce a new body of work and put it out in the world.
During my residency I will be constructing a large scale installation comprised of painted and printed paper with areas of collage. Essentially, this work will be composed of smaller, completed pieces that converge into a larger, fully realized installation. It is my hope that this work will evolve into a public artwork that may be installed in a community setting, available to everyone. As a resident at Anderson Ranch, I will be allowed the time and space to undertake such an involved project.
This is where you, the project backers come in. While Anderson Ranch is supported by multiple art organizations, there are still fees that I am responsible for in order to support my stay. These include room and board, travel expenses as well as food and project supplies.
In exchange for this help, I have some great incentives including limited edition, hand pulled prints as well as original artwork, all made by me during my time in residence. These will be coming your way in February, after I return from Colorado in December.
You can see more examples of my work at meganstroech.com, as well as the upcoming Midwest Issue of New American Paintings magazine. Thank you for your time and consideration. I greatly appreciate the support.
