We hit 3500!!! I can't thank you guys enough for your generous support! You guys are WONDERFUL! <3 Because of you guys, Technicolor will see print, and I can't express how much it really means to me. We couldn't have done it without each and every one of you! Now for some stretch goals to get you guys even more awesome swag!!
Stretch Goal #1: More Stuff!!
Plain and simple. If we can collectively find more support for the campaign and raise another $250 I'll be able to include an added 12 pages in "Technicolor." So that means that everyone including the digital only tiers ($10 and up) will receive another 12 pages of art in the book! Further more I will be able to add 2 additional prints to every tier $25 and up. So everyone who gets at least a soft cover will also get the two prints below:
Stretch Goal #2: The Lost Reels Anthology
Comics!!! Over the past couple of years I've occasionally written and drawn a few short stories that have never seen the light of day. For one reason or another (usually due to other work) these stories have gotten shelved. A few are totally complete and one or two require some finishing touches. But this is a chance for me to gather them all up and print an anthology of sorts. The stories range from corrupt cops, to super heroes, and international spies.
If we can raise the support for another $500 I can include copies of Lost Reels with every tier from 25$ on up. Printed as an individual comic, the anthology will also include a script from one of the stories along with other behind the scenes material.
Like Spies?! Like Action?! Fast Cars?! Deadly chases?! Of course you do. So let's make this happen! Spread the word, bring some new people into the fold and we can do it! No problem. :)
Stretch goal # 3: Original Art Sketch Cards.
You guys have been so generous with your pledges and I am extremely grateful for your love and support. Because of this I want to try to give something back. If we continue to spread the word in the final days of the campaign and end up reaching $4200, I'll tell you what. I will include digital PDF's of "The Lost Reels" Anthology in ALL tiers. Yes! That means that even for a dollar you'll get some comics! In addition to that I'll draw a sketch card of a random Marvel or DC comics character for every pledge $25 and up. So if we can raise another $323 in the next few days you guys are going to get everything I can put into this campaign and I'm looking forward to it! Here's an example of what the sketch cards will look like:
TECHNICOLOR is a landmark for me. It's a bold statement proclaiming where I am in my career as an illustrator and storyteller. It forecasts some of the places I'm planning to head in the future and shows you where I've been. A road-map of sorts to find me.
So last year I put together and self published my first sketchbook; and it was awesome!! It was the first time I had put anything like that together and the first time in my career that I felt confident enough in publishing and showing my personal work to others. Since then, I've been hard at work trying my best to improve my craft. I'd like to think TECHNICOLOR shows that. It's a culmination of all the things I've been working on and practicing over the past year.
The evolution of technicolor in the film industry was revolutionary. A turning point for modern cinema. This book symbolizes the same for me.
My first sketchbook was titled SILVASCREEN. A play off of my name and the classic term for cinema "The Silver Screen." The books interiors were black and white with a couple shades of grey. They were reminiscent of the black and white era of movies that continues to influence my work. I went with that title because I did (and still do) various studies on films predominantly from the era of film noir. What can I say, I love that stuff.
But I feel that I've made significant progress in my work over the past year. And much like what technicolor did for black and white film, my studies and understanding of color have improved in my work a great deal. In order to continue the road-map of my travels through what has been an exciting career thus far, I'm going to need a little help. Your help! But check it out:
Most people want help to fund something they plan on doing. I'm looking for help to do something that's happening as you read this. I'm getting these books printed no matter what. That's right! Come HeroesCon on June 20th I'll have all the copies of the first print run of TECHNICOLOR in my hands. I'm hoping to offset the cost of the first print run of TECHNICOLOR (a meager 200 copies) along with advertising for the book using the Kickstarter campaign. This means the books will be at the printers as soon as the project is funded. I've already designed the books and am waiting on the proofs from the printer as we speak. Also before I forget to mention, the books will be printed at Trinity, a local printer who did a bang up job on my sketchbook last year.
Since the book will be printed right here in what's practically my back yard there's no wait on getting the book shipped to me before I ship it out to you. It means that you'll get your copies of TECHNICOLOR mailed out to you right away as soon as surveys are filled out and turned back in and your funds are cleared. I don't think you should have to wait long to receive your rewards, so I won't wait long to get them to you. The book gets printed, I pick them up, they get shipped to you. I've also set aside time after the campaign in order to get things moving on the rewards (including sketches) and should have those wrapped up within a month. That's my pledge to you: I'll do everything in my power to get your rewards to you as fast as possible. It goes without saying that PDF's will be sent out first thing as well. Like. Boom. Instantly.
REWARDS?! WHAT DO I GET?!
First off, lets start with the book itself. The book will be available in two physical forms. Both versions include all the same interior artwork: their only differences are cover quality and print quantity. The First print run of TECHNICOLOR will consist of 200 copies of the softcover edition and only 25 copies of the hardcover edition. Both editions are 8 1/2" x 11" and are going to be at least 75 pages long. Even more pages are planned if we reach some stretch goals before too long!
***THE HARDCOVER EDITION IS A KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE!!!
As mentioned before the book is 8.5" x 11", will be perfect bound, and will be printed in full color on high quality paper. Here's what I came up with for the front and back covers for the book.
The interior pages are a mix of finished full bleed commissions, works of art, to gatherings and clippings of personal sketches from various sketchbooks I've filled up over the past year - all printed on high quality stock in vibrant color.
Next up are the Mini-prints. If you choose a tier that comes with the choice of one or more, you can make your choice from the options below. If you're baller enough and go for the "Probably the most limited, Maybe" tier for $250, you get to chose between the original art work used for the Mini-prints.
In addition every tier no matter if you donate even just a dollar will get both mobile and desktop TECHNICOLOR wallpapers.
You put in the request for a character and I do the sketch. That's how it works. The sketches will vary from busts to full figures, and will range in media composition from pen and ink, to water color, and colored pencil. All sketches will include some degree of background. Below are examples of the sketches I've been doing as of late - this is the level of quality you can expect from the interior sketches.
For anybody that decides to go with the $1000 tier - you'll get something that I haven't ever offered anyone before. A complete personal sketchbook of mine. Cover to cover it's all yours.
The sketchbooks range in size from 6" x 12" to 5.5" x 8.5" No pages are ever ripped out of any of my sketchbooks so you'll get a rare look into my personal space - where I develop the raw ideas for finished pieces (most of which never see the light of day!) and take notes on what I need to do to improve further as I work though whatever challenges are ahead of me.
These sketchbooks are a look into my "whys." the reasons and choices behind the finished work I do And that's not even the best part! At this level you'll be able to converse with me whenever you'd like. The three backers who go for this will get a Bi-weekly newsletter from me, exposing what I'm currently working on and how I'm going about it, along with the ability to call and chat via Skype or Google Hangouts up to a few times a week whenever is convenient for you.(I have to get work done as well you know!) :)
YES!! Even if you can't afford to pitch in, you can help by spreading the word. Share the link on facebook, tweet about the book on twitter, really any help in any social capacity would be greatly appreciated! This book needs all the support it can get to happen!
Thank you for taking the time to look the project over and give it consideration for your support. You have no idea how much I appreciate the help! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Risks and challenges
Every project comes with certain risk especially when dealing with things that are beyond my control. But I'm going to keep everyone well informed of progress via updates on Kickstarter as well as all of my other social media outlets. I've done my best to ensure that everything will go as smooth as possible by dealing with a printer that I've worked with in the past and will let everyone know immediately if there is going to be any delay what so ever from the dates projected in the campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
