Hegemone Pass is a Stealth JRPG set in the Greek Underworld, where combat and exploration are tied together by an alert system. Follow the story of the goddess Persephone, the Queen of the Underworld… who is no more, as her title has been stolen by her very mother, Demeter!
A game by Meringue Entertainment, with future music by Paradoxigent.

This is a complete demo, with a story adapted to the demo. Of course, it showcases most of the elements which will be present in the final game: unique environments, cute looking characters, cutscenes, stealth gameplay, a boss fight at the end!

Hegemone Pass is an odd mixture of three different genres: JRPGs, Platformers, and Stealth Games! We like to call this the first Stealth JRPG. All these gameplay styles are held together by the Leader System, otherwise known as Hegemone.
🔖 The Basics
In Hegemone Pass, you'll take on a mission-based adventure, where each mission consists of a unique 2D level. You'll need to reach the goal of the mission to complete it. On field, getting into contact with a foe will begin a turn-based battle.
Unlike any other JRPG, being spotted by the on-field enemies will not just make them chase you: they will sound an alarm, calling for reinforcements from all around the neighbourhood.
By touching or attacking enemies on the field, you'll enter the battle!
To win the battle, you'll need to eliminate the enemy leader, while making sure yours survives! But if you fight during an alert, the enemies will become dangerous!
🌫️ Miasma Swift
The best tool for stealth you have is the Miasma Swift. You can lay down a trail of miasma with two modes:
- Stealth Mode lets you create long lasting hiding spots and costs little to use.
- Teleport Mode lets you teleport a short distance… even through walls! It costs more miasma to use, however.
By touching the miasma, you'll be completely invisible, and intangible to foes. Sneak up your foes or bypass certain areas!
👑 Hegemone Pass: Leaders & Titles
Each ally and foe has a title. When they are leader, their title activates!
There are four styles of titles, each one being able to improve/reduce stats, grant elemental resistances/weaknesses, and enable a special effect!
- TEAM Titles: They empower the user’s team!
- LEADER Titles: They greatly empower the leader! (but their allies aren't affected)
- FEAR Titles: The opposing party is weakened!
- TARGET Titles: The opposing leader is greatly weakened!
If an enemy is trying to eliminate your leader, you can switch your leader with the Hegemone Pass! A new leader is then chosen, and their title will now take effect!
In addition, you can use the Auxo Pass technique to change the enemy team's leader!
⚔️ Timeline & Contest
Battles determine who acts when with a timeline system. The yellow bar goes from left to right, and if it encounters either an ally or foe, they get to act. If it reaches the end, it returns to the start of the left and a new turn begins. Certain attacks and techniques will move the target or the user a certain amount of spaces forward, backwards, or teleport you to specific areas.
But when an ally and foe are supposed to act at the same time, the action will be Contested! Now, both actors are locked in a battle of attrition, seeing who can last the longest. They will then have their turns happen one after the other, over and over until the contest is over.
This goes on indefinitely until they attack one another, one of the them is knocked out, or one of them is push away from the yellow zone. The loser cannot act for the rest of the turn, even if the yellow zone ends up visiting them.
The Contested mechanic will allow these two actors to act indefinitely, allowing you to either eliminate
So now you understand how the meat of Hegemone Pass works, but there are also a few neat features that will add layers to the gameplay, and enhance the story so stick around!
🌸 FLOWER EQUIPMENT
Other than titles, there is another sort of equipment that you can give your party members: Flowers!
Once equipped, they change one stat corresponding to its colour. The amount changed depends on the flower's brightness. The brighter the flower, the more power it can confer alone… But that doesn’t mean that darker flowers are useless…
You can then equip many flowers, which will then synchronize and synergize with each other depending on their colours, and confer more stat boosts, with darker flowers giving out more stat boosts to the flowers they synergize with! Oh, and while equipped, flowers allow the user to utilize its technique! Up to three extra techniques per party member!
The game features many cutscenes following Persephone's story to save the Underworld from her mother Demeter. A sample of them can be found within our demo, with unique cutscenes made exclusively for the demo.
🦋 STOLEN TITLES
Under Demeter's rule, enemies have begun stealing the titles of anyone who doesn't believe in her cause! These thieves will then fight you with their undeserved power. However, if you eliminate the thieves while they are leader, you can claim that title as your own and equip it. Retrieve as many as you can!
Talk to your allies with the Sync-Telepathy! Throughout your journey, your allies distant or near will telepathically call you to give advice, but you can also call them at any time. Try calling them many times, they might have useful advice! If not, they might still enjoy their conversations.
🎀 MASTERY & RANK
Stolen Titles, as they were not your own originally, need to be mastered to bring out their full potential. Eliminate foes with that title equipped, and you will increase the mastery of that title, restoring its full power! When it's fully mastered, that character increases rank, unlocking some extra abilities, more SP Refresh points, an extra stat point, and more…
⏱ CHALLENGE BATTLES
Find hidden portals scattered around the world and you will be able to start a challenge battle. Each battle has special battle conditions which will provide unique challenges and great prizes! What are they? You'll have to find them and see!
⛩ MISSIONS & INTERMISSIONS
Unlike most RPGs, Hegemone Pass does not have a world map, as the game takes place within Missions. Each main mission moves ahead with the story, and beating one mission unlocks the next one.
Between missions, you'll be in the Intermission. Chat with your allies or other NPCs that might be there, save your game, or shop at Message's shop.
In some longer missions, you'll be able to find Message's shop and Save Doors.
🎼 FUTURE MUSIC BY PARADOXIGENT
Thanks to this Kickstarter, we will be able to hire Paradoxigent to compose the music of the game! No more public domain classical music in the game going forward… if we succeed!
Paradoxigent, who has a great resume of 8-Bit Music, will provide great music to the game, which we're sure you're going to like! Have a listen to some of the tracks he made!

These titles are obtained based on your pledge tier but will not be counted in 100% completion of the game. These are going to be cosmetic titles using an already existing title's stats, just with fancy particle effects somewhere on the character (like TF2 unusuals).
Distribution would be via a unique code per backer, which can be added to the game. It is not DLC, so you can effectively share this code with others. But, this means that any future port can always have these exclusive titles.
In addition, unlocking the title within a playthrough will highlight your name within the credits (and maybe something else, but that's undecided at the moment).
Your soul will be wrongly detained in a cell, in the darkest of prison of the universe: Tartarus. But don't worry, you will be saved… Eventually!
If someone does save you, they'll be able to see your name, your screams for help before liberating them (interact with door), and you can personally thank (or hate) the player with a personal message to them.
An exclusive, digitally signed debug build of the game by the director… and the main four characters of the game! These signatures appears on the splash screen, alongside your name!
In addition, it can be signed on a livestream (or a recording). This is a debug build, with it's features enabled, such as the cutscene editor, the level select, attack choreography editor, sync-telepathy editor, and more! As a novelty, this is a one-time build, which cannot be updated. Any tier with this reward also has a standard version of the game.
If you think you've got a cool title you want to have in-game, and put your stats in it, for everyone to use, you can try doing that with this pledge reward! And this title will be available for everyone to equip in their own playthroughs!
You want your own enemy design in the game? Send us all your concepts with this reward and we'll try to make it a reality (within reason)! This will be a standard enemy that you can find in certain missions. You'll also get to design that enemy's title (which cannot be used by your party).
Conditions: Any reward related to inputted words and phrases, must not be inappropriate for a teen audience (rated T in ESRB / 12+ in PEGI).
17500€: Alternate New Game + (Persephone Solo Mode)
An unlockable mode where Persephone has to take back control of the Underworld on her own, without friends: she can fight on her own as she still has her title in this alternate scenario.
19000€: X Missions
X Missions are extra missions which are unique stories that deviate a bit from the main path. They are unlocked when certain conditions are met (for example: destroying a generator hidden in a level, completing another X Mission). These are entirely optional and occur in between two story missions.
20500€: Boss Rush Mode
A gameplay mode where you challenge each boss in the game one after the other. In this mode, every boss you defeat, you get to allocate level up stat points to each ally the more you progress. And after each boss you can use items for that mode and magic, and you get special Pleuros to use at a unique Message Shop, featuring a large selection of titles, flowers and items between each boss.
???€: Console Ports
Until we've obtained confirmation, the value and confirmation of the console ports is unknown. We're seeking to port the game to both the Switch and the Xbox One. If the costs of the devkits are low enough, we'll throw this reward straight into the Kickstarter goal, and not as a stretch goal.
Disclaimer: The story, characters, and locations are all inspired from Greek Mythology, though a certain amount of artistic license has been taken with the premise and conclusion.
From birth, Core has been sheltered and protected from the world by her mother, Demeter, the Goddess of the Harvest. Forced to train the power to bloom the flowers upon touch, Core didn't feel happy. Demeter isolated her from the outside world, her mother being the only one Core could be with…
One day, she was taken to a meadow of sparse grass, a plain where no flowers would bloom. Demeter then gave her a mission for which she was trained for: bloom flowers on this infertile land. She was to be left alone for this mission, and she entered the meadow.
But, the young Core strayed off the path when she spotted a dark flower on the side: upon touch, it transformed into Hades, King of the Underworld! Hades asked that she becomes his bride and come with him to the Underworld as his Queen.
Demeter, wondering about the time it took, came back and was shocked at the situation. She tried to stop Core from leaving her, but Core didn’t listen. She stepped into the portal to the Underworld.
The new Queen was coronated to the sound of the cheering souls. She would be called Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. and she would rule alongside her beloved King.
All the while, Demeter would fall into despair…
Six months later…
As Persephone learned the ropes of ruling, a strange incident happened where human soldiers showed up in the Asphodel Meadows, and making the local souls there (the hardest souls to motivate to do anything) willing to fight for them. Alongside a new servant, Yvonne, Persephone wanted to deal with the situation herself. She managed to deal with the situation, but tension was in the air, for they claimed they wanted to free all the souls captured by the evil King Hades.
After the incident, Hades had to leave for unknown reasons. And then, mere moments later, Demeter launched an attack on the Underworld.
Demeter, using the powerful artefacts known as the "Order Flowers", physically stole the title of her own daughter: the “Queen of the Underworld” supreme title. She showed no mercy for her own daughter… if she even recognized her as her own, that is.
Persephone, severely weakened, was saved by her servant Yvonne to run away from the Palace, jumping out of the window, escaping Demeter’s army.
The Order Flowers then flew up to the sky and scattered to the four corners of the Underworld.
Now, Demeter rules as "Queen of the Underworld" with her army, the Eleusinian Mysteries.
Demeter and the Eleusinian Mysteries are now searching for Hades and want to strip him of his “King of the Underworld” title with the power of the Order Flowers. When both titles are in the hands of Demeter, she will be able to free all the souls of the Underworld, wrongly separated from their loved ones… Hoping that one day too, she could reunite with her daughter, who she believes has been taken hostage…
Persephone, without her title, lost all her powers, except for one: the power of the Hegemone. A blessing that empowers the titles of mortals to compete against the divine.
Forced to fight against the citizens of her kingdom, she and the mortals who accompany her: Yvonne, Ethan and Emilie, must use her powers to find the Order Flowers and use them to take back her title from her mother.
Can Persephone overthrow her own mother and reclaim her title, or will she see her kingdom and husband perish?
These are the main characters...
The "Queen of the Underworld"...or now former Queen, since her mother, the goddess Demeter, has stolen her title! While timid and mild-mannered, she wishes to open up to her subjects and her companions.
Feeling isolated without her husband, and with her whole kingdom against her, a long journey awaits her, looking for Hades and taking back control of the Underworld...
Originally a servant of Hades, she is now tasked to serve Persephone. Yvonne accomplishes her tasks professionally and effectively, aiding Persephone with her duties and protecting her with her massive ceremonial axe, the Ribbon Axe!
While she will help her queen take back control of the Underworld, unbeknownst to Persephone she is hiding a mysterious past and a big secret about Hades...
A farm boy with a sense of adventure who travelled as a merchant. Somehow, he managed to find his way into the Underworld without dying. But while he is here, he must accomplish an important objective, to save his sister Emilie, trapped in the Underworld, and return together to the land of the living!
A baker who joined the Eleusinian Mysteries when she learned that her brother died and was held in the Underworld. The group promises her that they can save him, and all the other souls trapped there. So, to reach that goal, she trained endlessly, focusing solely on her tasks in the army and devoting herself to her objective. Yet her single-mindedness hasn’t aided her with her relations with others.
The "King of the Underworld" and husband to Persephone. King Hades is a harsh but fair ruler of the infernal souls. His heart, however, is devoted to Persephone. One day however, he leaves for unknown reasons, and then his prolonged absence has Persephone quite concerned… just what is going on?
"Goddess of the Harvest" and Persephone's mother, she is now the new "Queen of the Underworld" after having stolen her daughter's title. Now in control of the Underworld, she now must hunt Hades and take away his title: then, she will be able to free all the souls trapped there… No one will be separated any more.

A JRPG requires a lot of time to finish. The money collected will go into four types of spending:
- Game development: For the full-time development of the game.
- Music & Sounds: For paying Paradoxigent to compose the music.
- Taxes + Fees: A combination of the Kickstarter fee, payment processor fees, French taxes, and obligatory social security/health insurance contributions.
- Risks: These funds are for any unplanned issues development that we might find faced with. If no problems occurred, this will mainly go into the music budget.

Risks and challenges
While I believe we'll be fine if the Kickstarter succeeds, there are some risks that can stem from development.
Should the Kickstarter succeed, we will work full-time to develop this game. The game has been in production for a little while, but we will be able to shift gears and go faster. The core engine and gameplay mechanics are mostly finished, so the rest of development will mostly be reserved to content creation (cutscenes, sync-telepathies, levels, bosses, enemies, titles, items, field gimmicks, and so on…) and bug testing.
JRPGs need a lot of investment in terms of development and content creation. While we have a roadmap with a June 2020 release, and think that we can realistically release it on that date, it’s never impossible that a delay might happen.
