Meet the Dev! An interview with the creator himself!
The main 3 things I want to achieve with this campaign:
- Complete set of expressive dialogue portraits (Approximately 100)
- An additional 10 minutes of music
- Improved boss sprites and animations (4/5 bosses)
In order to do that we'll need to hit a minimum goal of $7500, the game is set to release this Summer, and anything above $1500 will help improve the game, whether it's one piece of additional music or one boss that gets improved (instead of 5). I'm really leaving it up to the community to determine the extras that we get to add for release, I need your support to make it all it can be!

DON’T GIVE UP is a dark comedy RPG about a mentally ill game dev trying to find success in life who becomes wrapped up in the manifestations of his own inner demons. You'll delve into your subconscious in order to face the darkness inside you and confront an evil entity intent on unraveling your mind.
Our story begins with...

THEN DON'T GIVE UP!
There's two sides to DON'T GIVE UP's core gameplay, a combination of narrative open exploration, smak talk, and real time combat.
In DON'T GIVE UP You'll be able to explore the awesome sights of Threeson pretty freely, arcades, cafes, frat houses, and even the local subway system are all just a short run away! Once you familiarize yourself with the city, you'll be tracking down key places and items down in no time flat!
Smak Talk is a super fun mechanic unique to DON'T GIVE UP! It’s a mini roast session that happens before combat where the player gets to insult the opponent in order to try and take the edge off of them in battle! You can even choose to empower your enemies for a little bit of an extra challenge!
The combat in DON'T GIVE UP unfolds in an original real time battle system that goes between 2 phases!
The enemy gets to launch attacks while you do your best to dodge, counter, and parry! Do this for long enough and you'll break the enemy's defenses!
Once the enemy's guard breaks the player turn begins and things get up close and personal! Unleash combos and deal massive amounts of damage before the enemy recovers!
The game takes place between two worlds, Threeson and Limbic.
Threeson is more or less the “human world” where Tris resides, while Limbic (the part of the brain responsible for motivation, emotion, learning, and memory) is home to Subris, Tris’s subconscious, the second playable character.
Because I was born and raised in New York City, making an RPG with a modern city meant there wasn't any way I could resist incorporating that influence into Threeson.
After scouring the Twitters for an awesome composer to take the ambiance and music in DON’T GIVE UP to another level, I came across a really talented composer who's making our tunes from now on! Have a listen!

Within the last year DON'T GIVE UP has made its at a few events (and hopefully more!). The most recent was PAX South and the reception was incredible, with people laughing and jamming to the game over the course of 3 days!
DON’T GIVE UP managed to raise $5868 on Kickstarter back in September of 2018.
That $5000 was the difference between the game not existing at all and having a release, so at the time setting the goal higher meant risking not having a game at all. It was the absolute minimum amount I needed to pull this off. Now 4 months later and in closed early access it’s clear from the feedback we’ve received that our hard work is paying off and we have a product worthy of some additional support to make the game even better!
Risks and challenges
It’s been a really tough road for DON‘T GIVE UP, in a world of battle royale games appearing everywhere you look, and roguelikes and metroidvanias pretty much dominating the indie scene… trying to launch and gain traction for an old school inspired narrative RPG is… certainly ambitious. But I’ve overcome every obstacle, and after doing so, have only worked harder to make this game better and more worthy of your reception. We are just a few months from finishing the final thing, with the script and areas finished we’re on to final characters and polish!
