Dear all: IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS about any part of our project and goals, feel free to reach us at info@dominickfarinacci.com - thank you in advance for taking the time to learn about this special collaboration.

Our Mission

We are creating an on-stage production and studio album telling Jaymes' story of life in the military and his challenging transition home in unfiltered detail through writings and music. Through this, we want to encourage dialogue between veterans, which will promote personal development and healing. The accessible platform of music will help to heighten civilian empathy and understanding of a soldier’s life, and will help to bridge the two communities.

Once the full on-stage production and studio album are complete, we plan to tour nationally at Performing Arts Centers, Schools, Festivals, Military bases (national and international), VFW’s and at VA health centers. Our goal is to partner with local (Cleveland) and national veteran organizations, psychologists and Arts and Wellness programs to help move forward a constructive dialogue around Veteran relations and provide concrete avenues of assistance for those in need.

Community-Building / Engagement

Reality-style video-documentation (and sharing) of the development process from Day One will build an interactive community of both veterans (and their families) and civilians. Jaymes will engage a community of veterans, and Dominick will engage artists from Gospel, R&B, Jazz, World Music and other backgrounds, all working together in the creative process.

Here’s what we can do if we hit our initial $10,000 goal:

Cast artists, begin rehearsals, continue to build and refine Jaymes’ writings, music and arrangements, engage veterans, bring on a Technical Director for stage concept and video document the process, culminating in a 5-10 minute musical documentary (and promotional piece) of developments that will be delivered first to our patrons in April 2017, and then to the general public shortly after. Raising seed-money for and documenting pre-production allows us to go to foundations and future supporters with tangible assets and a community of current supporters. This proactive approach enables us to maximize funding opportunities.

If we meet our first financial goal, Catskill Jazz Factory in Tannersvillle, NY has agreed to provide a $10,000 in-kind contribution providing access to their black-box theatre and housing for necessary rehearsals. We will document up to four separate residencies on location, shoot our pre-production documentary (and promotional piece) and offer a public community event about our project.

How We're Structuring our On-Stage Production

Jaymes broke down his story into seven chapters. Dominick is composing a suite of music (and arranging pre-existing songs) around these chapters, involving artists from different genres and cultures including Gospel, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Classical, Blues, Middle Eastern artists and much more.

I. Joining the Military

II. Training

III. Deployment

IV. Death and Self-Destructive

V.  Self-Recognition

VII. Optimism and Renewal

How This Collaboration Began...

I was learning a song by Tom Waits called "Soldier's Things." Lyrically it’s interpreted as a soldier coming back from war and facing the realities of adjusting to civilian life. I became emotionally immersed in a world I knew nothing about and wanted to learn everything I can learn about what this song meant. I was introduced to Jaymes through a mutual friend in our hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. After hearing his story, seeing the wonderful things he's doing for fellow veterans and the active role he took on as President of the Veterans Association at his school John Carroll University, I invited him to collaborate on a special Music Video so he can put his story out there for more people.

Our "Soldier's Things" Music Video was meant to simply provide a glimpse into Jaymes' journey. The feedback Jaymes got from veterans made us think about taking this collaboration to the next level.

Jaymes: "The feedback I got was letting me know that they were going through the same issues, and the majority of them didn't want to or know how to talk about it. It started a conversation between us, which hopefully can help them start a conversation with somebody else."

I want to use the emotional and familiar power of music to provide a common platform for us civilians to understand more about a soldier's life, ultimately helping to improve communication and support for veterans.

While the end result will be great, the process in getting there is where we'll learn the most about each other. That's why we want to document the process and share publicly, in hopes that it can trigger dialogue and heighten awareness.

Risks and challenges

At this point, our only challenge is raising the full amount (beyond our Kickstarter target) needed to complete our production. So we have to move in stages, completing our deliverables to our supporters based on the current money raised.
