Through the canvas of fashionable, handcrafted ties and bow ties, Prophets and Genius celebrates achievement and the people, places, and ideas that inspire you.
Your support will help fund the purchase of additional raw materials, as well as the Brooklyn-based production of our ties. As importantly, you will show your support for a U.S.-based project fueled by inspiration. Prophets and Genius supporters will receive neckties and/or bow ties, as well as branded pens and our heartfelt appreciation for your faith in us.
What is Prophets and Genius?
At Prophets and Genius, we love ideas. We celebrate genius. And we see fashion as an expression of who we are. Currently, your tie collection probably includes a handful of patterns: striped, solid, floral, paisley, and maybe something funky like flip-flops or lobsters. But your ties probably don’t tell your story. What if your neckties and bow ties were a reflection of who you are? Are you a CPA, a chef, an engineer? Do you spend your free time pursuing photography, playing guitar, or running triathlons? Let your ties tell your story. Our elegant neckwear celebrates your dedication to your profession and passions.
What's in a name?
One of the most original thinkers in economics inspired our name:
"Geniuses and prophets do not usually excel in professional learning, and their originality, if any, is often due precisely to the fact that they do not." --Joseph Schumpeter, Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy (1942).
Schumpeter was the first economist to truly examine entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs disrupt industries to create societal gains. Much like him, we celebrate those who appreciate originality.
What will I find in your collection?
Our neckties and bow ties are handcrafted in Brooklyn from 100% silk, by a family-owned business that has been producing fine neckwear for more than 25 years.
The following five designs and colors will be available as part of our Kickstarter campaign, with additional designs available if we achieve stretch goals (stretch goals are detailed near the bottom of this page).
Kickstarter Designs *UPDATE* (April 21st, 2016)
Based on feedback from our backers, we will add the following four designs as part of our $4,200 funding level.
What sets your ties apart?
We are proud of our attention to detail. Prophets and Genius strives to create neckwear that will exceed your expectations. With each tie you will find:
Why do you need my support?
We've already developed our complete production process, from sourcing materials, to assembly, to packaging. Your support will help finance our second run of ties, which will include new themes and additional inventory for existing patterns. Designing the patterns, sourcing the raw materials, and assembling the next run of ties will cost a minimum of $4,200. Each successive reward that is unlocked will cost an additional $1,500, which is how we have structured our stretch goals. We've included more about stretch goals, including potential designs, at the bottom of this page.
When will I get my rewards?
Most supporters will receive their rewards sometime in September, though we'll work diligently to deliver earlier, if possible. This includes both the original Kickstarter designs you see above, and any stretch goals that are achieved.
From our first small batch production run, a small number of the earliest supporters selecting our original Kickstarter designs will receive their rewards within about a month of the campaign ending. But we ask that you please assume delivery of your rewards will take place in September. If you want details on interim production steps, Gantt charts reign supreme.
Where do you source your materials?
We have made every attempt to source environmentally friendly materials and utilize socially conscious production processes. We design the ties in Maryland, receive computer aided design support from New Jersey, and assemble the ties in Brooklyn.
Thanks to our friends at Maker's Row--a community that simplifies the connection of U.S. manufacturers with makers--we've sourced most elements of production from U.S.-based suppliers. The ties' labels were sourced from Florida. Our assembly is done in New York. And, our packaging paper and boxes are produced in Harrisburg, PA. We're thrilled to work with our fellow U.S.-based businesses that offer materials of the highest quality and responsiveness to specifications.
What are your stretch goal designs and at what level will new designs be available?
Our overall funding goal for the campaign is $4,200. For each successive $1,500 reached above the $4,200 level, we will make one more design available (e.g. $5,700, $7,200, etc.). We'll ask supporters to vote on which designs and colors to produce as we reach each stretch goal. If you’d like to submit a stretch goal design idea for voting, please contact us at email@example.com, and we may incorporate it here!
I'm in. What can I do to help?
We would welcome your support at any level, and appreciate your help in spreading the word about our campaign. Email, Facebook, Twitter - whatever you can do. Please simply provide them with the link to our campaign.
We love to hear from friends and supporters, so please don't hesitate to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We're already developing a few stretch goal designs based on your suggestions. Thank you for your interest in Prophets and Genius!
A Million Thanks To...
Lewisburg Studio for the artful photos of our ties; Andy's big sister for lending your incredible wordsmithing skills; Dent Digital for the fun and beautifully designed video; our friends at Maker's Row for helping us find our partners and suppliers; and the many friends and family members who have provided thoughtful advice and ideas.
Risks and challenges
While we have already tested our supply chain, there is always some risk that a silk mill or assembly partner may experience production delays. We don't anticipate such issues, as we have spoken to our partners about the timing of our order. But, as any Kickstarter supporter knows, not everything goes according to plan. We've taken precautions to minimize this risk, but pleaes be aware that production delays may sometimes arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
