What Have People Been Saying?
"This isn't your typical 'you go, I go' kind of game! Lots of tension, lots of action. Games are fast, deadly, and always call you back for more!" - Henry VanBlake, New Jersey
"Wow okay, so... Can I just say wow? I consider myself a gamer even though I don't play too many card or tabletop games. CT was my first real card game! That being said, it really was easy to learn. And just all together fun in general? Would I buy this? You bet! I can't wait for it to be published!" - Cynthia Allen, Alabama
"My favorite aspect of the game is the feeling of being a master mind. You sit there hoping your gambit pays off and you can see through your opponent's tricks in time. You want to play again and try something else when you lose. Victory is just a thrill." - Bryan Hungridge, Missouri
How Far Are You?
The game's completely done. Our art is print ready, and we've put over a year of testing and development into it. Right now we're trying to raise about a third of the cost of printing the game on Kickstarter - $5000. Please watch our video and take a look at the game - I think you'll really enjoy it, and we could definitely use your help.
What Factions Are There?
Mitra, The Eternal Kingdom
Formed over two thousand years ago to orchestrate an event of great political upheaval in Rome, the Mitra work from the shadows. Having benefited greatly from the rise of the United States and Great Britain, Mitra stands as a symbol of boldness amongst the societies. Their cultural and raw military influence is unparalleled. Though armed action is rare nowadays, and invasions even rarer, Mitra controls both factors that make blatant force a possibility: overwhelming military might, and the ability to create an obfuscating media smokescreen to justify it.
Tindei, The Spirit Cycle
Tindei was formed by a secret oath between Taoist monasteries and criminal organizations, uniting to force the end of the corrupt Han dynasty. They spin webs within webs, orchestrating hundreds of plots – some at cross-purposes, either to distract, or for some higher purpose. With relationships stretching back a thousand years, the Tindei call upon allies both in government and the criminal underworld. To ensure the cycle continues, any price can be paid, and any number sacrificed.
How Does Gameplay Work?
On the strategic layer, you move your pieces on a grid, trying to
eliminate your opponent's Puppet Master while protecting your own. The
identity of the Puppet Master will be concealed, however, so you'll have
to try and read your opponent's moves to avoid pushing towards mere
Will you play aggressively and try to break through the enemy ranks, or defensively, and try to protect your Puppet Master?
The strategic layer of Conspiracy
Tactics is played on a 4 by 4 grid. The tactical layer is conducted with
a psychological dice combat between the players involving luck,
bluffing, and most importantly, reading your opponent.
The tactical layer takes the mindgames deeper. A psychological dice combat is initiated, called Conflict. A simple and intuitive system, Conflict involves rolling concealed dice and declaring their value to your opponent. The higher the value, the more powerful the hand - but beware, an opponent with a strong read will know when you're lying. If you're caught bluffing, you'll lose the Conflict immediately, and suffer the consequences!
This square is contested by a Politician and an Operative of Mitra, a two-thousand year organization descended from an ancient Bloodline. They face off against one of Tindei's Amaranth Lee, a powerful Triad Lieutenant.
The easy-to-learn, hard-to-master mechanics further challenge the psyche with a number of special, one-per-game abilities, called Pressure. At any time during a Conflict, Pressure can be wagered on the outcome.
If you win the Conflict, a powerful ability will be unleashed upon the field! Use Pressure at the right time to double down on a winning hand - or scare your opponent into retreating from a weak one.
What's Your Approach to Game Design?
Easy to Learn
We've designed and tested Conspiracy Tactics to be easy to learn. Think about Chess or Poker - two classic games that have stood the test of time. The rules can be learned in minutes, and you can get a game started immediately.
Lots to Master
Let's continue the Chess and Poker analogy. In each of those games, there's near infinite depth - board control, positioning, material, and sacrifice for Chess, and psychology, resource management, and observation for Poker. We've tried to build Conspiracy Tactics to be a game that is deep and rewarding, where you can always improve your skills and challenge even stronger players.
Games are the most thrilling when they go past the level of deck against deck, army against army, or opening against opening and reach a player against player state, where reading the mind of your opponent means victory.
We've designed Conspiracy Tactics to reward this exciting guessing process, where both sides have concealed information, and things are not always what they seem.
Look and Feel
A game shouldn't just be fun, it should be an experience. The materials we use are selected for their quality and ease of use. Cards have smooth-glide linen-finish, the same used in performance playing card trick decks, and both the pieces and overall design have been stylized in a way that sublimely reflects the shadowy nature of conspiracy theories.
Balance shouldn't be left up to handicaps and soft scores. We've designed and tested the game to stand up to the rigors of competitive play, and will continue doing so for all future expansions.
