Glad to! A “bandersnatch” is a mythical creature, very swift and rather ornery. It was first imagined by Lewis Carroll, and it’s mentioned in the poem “Jabberwocky” and elsewhere in the tales of Alice in Wonderland. C. S. Lewis was once asked if the Inklings managed to influence Tolkien, and Lewis replied, “No-one ever influenced Tolkien. You might as well try to influence a bandersnatch.” Dr. Glyer has written two books-- "The Company They Keep" (2007) and "Bandersnatch" (2016)-- that consider the question of influence and creativity, correct the notion that Tolkien was impervious to criticism, and try to tame the bandersnatch in all of us.
