STRETCH GOAL: For every $100 over the funding goal I’ll donate one book to a library.
Set in the wild cottage-country of central Canada at the Pinewood Lodge, Kristy's Quilt is based on the true story of 10 year old Kristy Lincoln. A child whose family runs a rustic lodge in the scenic Canadian Whiteshell Provincial Park is inspired to quilt by the annual In Stitches quilting retreat. Her beginner skill set and the scarcity of supplies in this gorgeous, remote location overshadow her determination, but the quilters come together to support her along the way.
Funds raised will pay for the illustrator and production costs such as layout, design, printing, other backer rewards and shipping. Here are a few of the adorable illustrations by the talented Marcia Stacy. A professional graphic designer and artist for decades, she has truly brought Kristy to life on the page. Her depiction of my hopes and ideas for the characters are better than I could have ever imagined.
Note from the author: Kristy's Quilt is a project I've had on the shelf for several years since I met this adorable kid who managed to make an entire quilt from scratch in just one weekend. I was so inspired by her determination that I sat down and wrote the story within a few days of the retreat. I sent the manuscript to the 2 big quilt industry publishers only to find that they don't do picture books - only how-to quilt books. So with the aim to have it available in quilt shops worldwide, I've set out to self-publish and thanks to backers like you and my Kristy's Quilt team on Kickstarter - we can make it happen!
It was an easy choice switching careers from Firefighter to Quilt Professional. It felt so natural to fall into the arms of caring, nurturing quilters. Visit the Brandy Lynn Designs website to view my gallery, workshops and lectures. Here are some snapshots of my work…

Risks and challenges
This is the first time I've written a children's picture book. I've hired professional editors and an amazing illustrator. I have a contract and deadlines for the illustrator at different stages of completion which she is meeting with great success. I have quotes with timelines from the on-demand printer so production problems shouldn't be an issue. After a month I will be able to determine the amount of books I can print and the number of backer rewards I will need to fulfill. I have an army of friends and family on standby for hand cutting bookmarks, packing and shipping the rewards to backers. I will post clear and consistent updates throughout the campaign, so backers are informed along the way. Shipping is expensive and different to every location around the world, that's why I've added shipping costs for out of country orders.
No matter what obstacles may arise after successful funding, I will keep you well informed. I am passionate about this project and I will work hard for you because you believed in me. Thank you for backing the Kristy's Quilt project!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
