Open End is headed to Denmark for a residency at the Rudersdal Somerkoncerter, and a concert at the Glyptoteket in Copenhagen!
It's been a year since we raised post-production funds for my new CD Terror and Memory on Kickstarter. The first reviews of the CD are in, from Fanfare magazine, and they're raves, with the performances described as "stunning" and "towering" (I'm not kidding!). One of the groups on the disk, Ensemble Nordlys, has invited one of the others, my group Open End, to Denmark this summer to be in residence at the Rudersdal Sommerkoncerter, and to play a concert at the Glyptoteket Museum in Copenhagen. Open End loves to travel, and we love playing in Europe. We've performed already in France and Italy, and are thrilled at the idea of slapping stickers from Denmark on our cases to add to our ever-expanding collections.
Rudersdal is a gorgeous place, and the festival is beautifully organized and programmed. One fun thing in this for us is that the repertoire there is always a mix of old and new, so we'll be performing Dowland, Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, Ravel and Schumann, along with Waggoner and Ives, and of course improvising. Our concert at the Glyptoteket will be a more typical Open End show, with music from me, Shulamit Ran, Jesse Jones, Messiaen, improvisations, and a world premiere by the young Italian composer Eric Maestri.
Festival director Christine Pryn always does an amazing job fundraising for the Rudersdal concerts, and so all we need at this point are additional funds for travel, $2,500 to be precise. As always with Kickstarter, small increments are as crucial to our success as are large ones. We're grateful for every dollar, but $50 will get you a live Open End CD, which we'll have ready to send by November of this year. It'll have a mix of recent live performances of works from our rep, as well as a set of improvs. I'm excited about putting it together and sharing it with all of you.
That's about the size of it; the only other thing I can think of to say is, thank you, thank you, thank you!!
