New tiers

We were surprised how fast the Emperor tier sold out. Is seems that some people really wanted to own some sword. Many people also wanted to contribute more and used the Pope tier – that was a pleasant surprise. For these reasons we added three new tiers:

  • The Wenzel der Faule backers will get a sword. However, we want the first backers to have something unique, so while the Emperor tier swords will carry unique inscriptions, the Wenzel swords will be all alike. And because we don’t have unlimited supply of churches, the Wenzel tier backers will get their conciliatory cross instead of a church portrait. The conciliatory cross is a medieval artefact, especially in Central Europe, whereby a criminal could reconcile with his victim by paying a compensation and erecting a cross. Finding conciliatory crosses is going to be an achievement in our game and they will carry names of the Wenzel der Faule tier backers.
  • The Illuminatus and Saint tiers are intended for the people with lot of money and no better way of spending them. The swords for these tiers are going to be hand-and-a-half, i.e. so called Bastard swords. They will be of the highest quality, hand-made, individually forged beautiful weapons with personalized inscription. Beside the sword you will also get a hand-painted shield decorated with the coat-of-arms of a noble family related to the game story. You will also get billing in the game credits.
  • The Saint tier backers will moreover get their own statues in the in-game churches, with their name on it. And they will get an amazing two day tour through the real-world locations where our game takes place. There will be a professional historian/archaeologist to point out the historical connections and you will be able to visit places that are normally off limits to tourists.

Is it possible to get a better look at the figurine? I'm a sucker for statues etc, but putting that much money down, I'd like to get a better look and some more details etc?

@David W: can you point me on some medieval manuscript that refers this hand-and-a-half sword? Actually, I know that the swords were in various sizes, but "hand and a half" is not a accurate historical dated in this game period.

From wikipedia: The term "hand-and-a-half sword" is relatively modern (from the late 19th century). This name was given because the balance of the sword made it usable in one hand, as well as two. During the first half of the 20th century, the term "bastard sword" was used regularly to refer to this type of sword, while "long sword" (or "long-sword"), if used at all, referred to the rapier (in the context of Renaissance or Early Modern fencing).

See - in medieval Europe, there were just swords (shorter mainly used with buckler) and long swords. Off course some lengths in between were also present

    3. David W on

@Michal That's incorrect. There IS a sword sized between the arming sword and the longsword, and it's generally called a bastard or hand-and-a-half. It's fought the same way as the full longsword in two hands, but it's small enough it can still be wielded one-handed effectively (whereas the longsword is too large for effective one-handed use).

Just to be accurate, there is no hand-and-a-half, or bastard sword. It is called long sword (langschwert (used in manuscripts by talhoffer or lichtenauer), dlhy mec/dlouhy mec ), if you want to be historically accurate.

game looks fantastic!!! I wouldn't do the female thing if its compromising what your intended goal is. That said it doesn't mean we cant meet some bad#$% females :D. Joan of Ark was a woman ^^

I backed at Wenzel, not sure how I missed this Kickstarter while browsing the other day. A shame because I missed Emperor.. would like that title better but oh well!

Pope is a little too expensive and I don't really care about meet and greets.. Maybe add something between Wenzel and Pope? Love the idea of getting a sword for backing!

      From the FAQ:

"I don’t understand the concept of Acts. What is Act I, II and III? Why there is not cheaper tier offering all three Acts?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Act I, as it is planned, is a full scale, stand-alone game. It has 30+ hours of gameplay, complete open world map, all quests and closed story line. Most (if not all) game mechanics described above will be included: horse riding, combat, castle sieges, there will be at least one large-scale battle. Acts II & III extend the story, add new environment in separate maps, new quests, gear and weapons. They will also add new quests to the map of Act I. It will be possible to travel between maps of all Acts, some quests will require you to visit all of them.

We definitely intend to make Acts II & III and release them as soon as possible. However, our funding and schedule does not reach past first Act. We will finalize our plans for the release of Acts II & III when we get closer to the release date of Act I. For these reasons we don’t want to offer and promise them as a Kickstarter reward in their own right. We want to use them as a token of our gratitude to higher tiers backers, but you should think about it more like 100% discount offer than a guaranteed reward."

I assume the swords will be decorative and not sharpened, so shouldn't be classified as a weapon. But they're still sword-shaped metal, so I wonder what customs will say about it? Suppose if you can afford those tiers you can afford an eventual customs fee.

They could have a digital Duke and a digital King tiers. I could see alot of people incluiding myself upgrading from digital Baron.

i hope there wont be a saint statue in-game with name like "ultimate_4sskicker" or something like that :)

    11. Ottis on

Would you consider more tiers? One around 50 Euros would be a sweet spot that I would certainly move to along with more backers, I am sure of that :)

Wenzel and sword? Funny connection. Decorated tall green glass for wine would fit his hand better ;-)

Your highest digital-only tier is the Baron-tier, right?
I would really love to raise that but nowadays I am only going for digital-only as there is already enough stuff lying around in my flat;-)
So please add higher digital tier, and i will jump on it the second you put it there... as for possible contents i guess digital art book, extended manual, world map, additional acts would be nice additions...
      Your game btw looks amazing!
And to add that: I find the way you are using kickstarter - to prove the game concepts' potential to your investor - actually a great idea... in that way it works as a leverage for a game you couldnt finance over Kickstarter (as long as your name is not Chris Roberts ;-)...)
Good luck for the rest of the campaign!!!

More tiers is good but add ons (to get all acts) or extra low and mid range tiers will help drive up pledging from the many backers who have pledged at <£600 level.

Thirding riggos comment. Alltho i have to say one thing. I was critiquing the way warhorse was doing updates, but they made it up today in one Swift blow. Well done ;)

I think if Act II and III were rewarded at some of the lower tiers more people would sign on to the project. Stoibs's comment is I agree very much with. Higher backers could get some more special access on the forums for example. Maybe dev blogs that lower tier backers do get or have to wait for. Stuff like that

I just backed and excited for the game. Looks great!

I also vote for Sean Bean. What a great addition that would be. Good luck!

      Seconding Riggo's comment.

A significant portion of kickstarter funding for successful projects comes from the up-pledging between lower end tiers. (Ie thousands of people pledging a little extra as opposed to 1 or 2 high- end backers.)

Alpha and beta access won't be appealing to everyone.

I assume you will be adding add-ons to the campaign at some point also. Digital is obviously by far the most cost-effective form of pledge reward or add-on. Some suggestions; Wallpapers, digital artbook, digital strategy guide, a historical document pdf (showcasing the real life setting the game is based on), a pdf factsheet of medieval arms & armours, heraldry, culture etc...

I believe the historical authenticity of this game is of great interest to people, especially in the current gaming landscape saturated with high fantasy. So a few digital rewards leveraging this interest may be a good move. Especially since you will have a full-time historian on your team :-)

Yeah need more affordable act 1/2/3 tiers, and yes LordCrash I've read the Faq. Doesn't really adequately explain it away at all.
This will only bring in more funding as people upgrade for the 'complete edition', no matter how far into the future they may have to wait for the additional acts to be made (See the Banner Saga and their act 1/2/3 reward at $50+ pledges)

    21. Riggo on

You need more lower end all digital tiers... High end tiers are nice, but the majority won't be able to upgrade to them...
