Last year when we visited the Essen game fair, there was one booth that clearly was having the most fun. Tucked into the back corner of hall 7, Jumping Turtle Games was a first time publisher with one game - BABY BLUES. Over the show I was in their booth for several hours, playing this game and watching as player after player enjoyed their games so much that they always bought a copy.
Lucky for us, the guys at Jumping Turtle Games decided to partner with Indie Boards and Cards to release English language edition of this fun, silly game that anyone can learn in minutes and enjoy playing with their friends and family.
In Baby Blues every player is working in their neighbor's day care center. You have five babies under your charge, and you want to keep your babies happy. Happy babies score points at the end of the game, crying babies do not. You'll play cards to make other babies cry and keep your babies happy.
Each turn you can play as many Green (good) cards and one Red or Orange (bad) card on one of your opponents. Red & Orange cards are misfortune events that make babies cry - like poopy diapers and taking their pacifier. Green cards comfort your babies, changing diapers and feeding. Any unhappy baby at the end of your turn will cry and is out of the game.
The game ends when one player has only crying babies. All the babies that aren't crying are flipped over and their points totaled. The player with the most points wins!
The Indie Boards and Cards edition of Baby Blues is a 3-5 player game and we've also upgraded the Unhappy/Crying baby cards from the Jumping Turtle Games edition to be tokens. Baby Blues contains:
- 25 Player Cards (5 each in 5 player colors)
- 20 Unhappy Baby Tokens
- 66 Event Cards (41 Misfortune, 25 Comfort)
There isn't time, nor budget to include any promos or stretch rewards for this project. The games sent as rewards will be the same games as those that end up on retail shelves.
If you didn’t back one of our previous kickstarters this year, and don’t qualify for low “add-on” prices, you will be able to get this game from your local game store at the same price - though of course we love your support and are happy to send you a copy of the game if you choose to back us!
I really wanted to be able to offer this fantastic deal to those that helped us make all our other kickstarter projects so successful this year. Kickstarter really is a great platform to do that through.
What are Kickstarter Funds used for?
Your pledge dollars go directly into making the pledge rewards, and shipping them to you. We have invested in getting the project to this point where it is ready; your support ensures that we have the cash to pay our printers to make the games - the most costly part of game production.
As a special reward for kickstarter backers and as a result of the advances we’ve made in reducing shipping costs within the US & Canada, we are able to offer great prices when adding some of our older titles when you pledge for Grifters. Note - we are no longer able to support Add-Ons outside of US & Canada.
After this project is closed, we will open Add-ons via paypal for backers. DO NOT ADD $ TO YOUR PLEDGE FOR ADD-ONS. Add-ons are for retail editions of the games listed below (no promos included) and will be sent with your rewards from this project (in September).
All of the games that we offer in the add-on program are available right now at your local game store:
- The Resistance
- The Resistance: Hidden Agenda (Resistance Expansion)
- The Resistance: Hostile Intent (Resistance Expansion)
- The Resistance: Avalon
- Coup: Reformation (Coup Expansion)
- Coup Rebellion G54 (Stand Alone Game)
- One Night Revolution
- Flash Point Fire Rescue
- Urban Structures (Flash Point Expansion)
- 2nd Story (Flash Point Expansion)
- Extreme Danger (Flash Point Expansion)
- Dangerous Waters (Flash Point Expansion)
- Veteran & Rescue Dog (Flash Point Expansion)
- Dragon Slayer
Our plan is to have Baby Blues ready in time for GenCon but we don't have plans to bring this game to Essen. While our current production schedule looks like kickstarter rewards will ship out well before GenCon, it may be the case that we have games at GenCon before the kickstarter backer copies are sent. It may also be the case that we are unable to get games to GenCon in time. I wish we were able to absolutely guarantee results - but we simply know that we can't make such commitments when so many other parties are involved in the process.
If you want GenCon pickup - DO NOT PLEDGE FOR THIS PROJECT - all you have to do is sign up for our GenCon email list by giving an email address here: http://eepurl.com/RzSlX. Shortly before the show, we will ask you what you would like to reserve for Thursday pick up (note we cannot handle prepaid reservations or hold items past Thursday).
We are offering a special "COMBINED SHIPPING" levels for this project, if you backed the Grifters, Don't Mess with Cthulhu, Coup Deluxe Edition Brazilian Art and/or G54 Anarchy project(s) at any level that receives rewards except the ECONOMY international shipping levels (without just selecting a combined shipping level).
The $13 and $18 COMBINED SHIPPING pledge levels are only available to these backers. If you did not back Grifters, Don't Mess with Cthulhu, Coup Deluxe Edition Brazilian Art and/or G54 Anarchy at one of the above levels, then please do not back at the combined shipping levels. If you have a question about whether you are eligible to back at this reduced shipping level please ask. If you back at this level and are not eligible, then you will not only have to pay the shipping costs difference but will pay an additional $20 fee.
For this project we aren't offering International shipping outside of the Combined shipping details above. This is due to both licensing and economic reasons.
Risks and challenges
Indie Boards and Cards recently completed a kickstarter project for Grifters and Don't Mess with Cthulhu, those projects are scheduled to be delivered in August of 2016. We have a track record of delivering multiple projects in a timely manner and do not foresee any issues with doing so again
Indie Boards and Cards has successfully delivered a number of previous kickstarter projects to thousands of supporters. We expect that our previous experiences will enable us to also deliver this project on time.
Have a question? Be sure to "Contact Me" to get an answer >>>>> While I do read the comments, I will not answer questions nor post into the comments section. The comments section(s) may, in fact I can guarantee that it will, contain inaccurate information. It is very easy for you to ask me a question and get an email response, so please do.
That said, there are always complexities and considerations in a project of this scope that may cause delays. Indie Boards and Cards will use contract manufacturing to make this game, freight forwarders to get games through customs and 3rd parties like Amazon, the US Post Office and FEDEX to ship the games to you - we don't control everything and there are lots of opportunities for delay. Other conditions may also cause delays - earthquakes, alien invasions, asteroid attacks, zombie plague are but a few of the myriad of reasons we may not be able to deliver this project in a timely manner.
This is a first edition of the game - by pledging to this project you are agreeing to be an early adopter and the extra promo items that are included in this edition (that aren't in the retail version) are your rewards and incentives for being an early adopter. But even with multiple edits, and constant proofing, there may be minor typos, or grammar usage that is annoying to you in your rewards or other little things that would have been nice to have avoided but don't affect how the game is played. Mistakes that materially affect game play will of course be addressed but sometimes there are minor errors that might be distracting but do not affect game play that I can't justify correcting. So if minor errors get under your skin and make it itch then you probably don't want to be an early adopter and are better off waiting till you've had a chance to see the final product and then buy it in your local hobby store. Kickstarter is not for everyone and I leave it to you to decide if you should be getting in on a first edition of this game.
My pledge is that I will deliver what I said and have written this project page as concisely and clearly as I can. So please read everything on this page - every kickstarter project is unique, and the commitments I am making to you regarding this project are completely defined here. If you don't see that I have made a commitment to do something, then I haven't committed to do that - please don't assume that I have. You can always send a message and ask me.
A particular challenge to a project like this is negativity - I love your input, and really enjoy all the great suggestions that come from the large majority of our supporters. I can't include all the suggestions that I get, nor can I give you specific feedback other than noting that I do read all the comments and messages sent to me. So think before you post - threats, ultimatums and entitlement are unlikely to get you what you are asking for, and very likely that everyone else (myself included) will get less.
Refunds - Things happen and sometimes you need to get your money back. If you ask (before it's been submitted for shipment to you), I'll refund your pledge less 20% to cover the costs that I can't recoup and the costs of processing that refund. So think before you pledge - you can of course always remove your pledge before the funding deadline, but don't expect to get a 100% refund just because you forgot to remove your pledge before the project end ;)
Changes - Images shown here are of the final art; however, while it is not expected, changes may be made before final production both to the art work and game contents. Variations in the production process and monitor calibration may cause alterations from the screen images to what appears in physical form.
Production variability - While efforts are made to ensure that all versions of games are compatible with previous versions and expansions, there is no practical way to ensure that this happens. Variations in the production process can result in differences in colors, textures and materials between print editions and occasionally within a single print run. Some variation should be expected that may necessitate that measures such as using card sleeves be used to hide these minor production variations.
Have an issue? Send me a note - and please don't support us if you aren't satisfied with what the project is returning to you. Nothing would make me happier than having 100% of my supporters 100% satisfied with their pledge rewards!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
