Hi, I am Alisia Dale.
Pictures books did not look like my kids or our family
When my twins were born I looked for picture books that I could share with the boys that represented a world of colour and diversity, OUR world, the world that was familiar to them. But that part was missing! Fast forward 7 years and I had another precious pea and not much had changed
There was still this gap
1) Pictures books still did not look like my kids or our family, and, 2) still no stories about kids like when I was growing up.
Make Change Happen "You want to see changes? Then get out there and make them yourself, Alisia!” What if I wrote a picture book that made me feel like I did when I was a girl growing up in Canada? So, I created my main character, a sweet 6-year girl named Sela Blue because it seemed like everyone remembers what it is like to be six – so much joy, wonder, magic and adventure.
Here’s the dream:
I really want to see children of colour have a more positive image in picture books.
Last year I published one of the books in the series, “Sela Blue and the First Day of School”. I have assembled a great team with a visionary illustrator to help us realise this dream. With your help, I would love to publish the next book “Meet the Blues: Sela Blue and the Missing Key”.
Join me and the Sela team in closing this gap
Together, more children can see themselves authentically come to life through Sela’s world of pictures.
Support us and pledge
Enjoy an adventure with Sela and her sisters, Susie and Sophie, through their town of Chateauguay. You will also meet some more of the fun-loving, quirky and cute characters in the series like, ‘Nanny Klatchenburger’, and Sela’s best friend Jolin.
All the funds will be used to pay for our production costs, like our magnificent illustrations, printing, and marketing. The series is feel good and purposeful. I am so excited about you meeting Sela Blue! BE part of Sela’s story and family.
My story is Sela’s story. Please let it be part of your family’s story too!
Meet the Blues: Sela Blue and the Missing Key is the story that launches the adventure. When Sela and her sisters, Susie and Sophie can’t find the key to their charming house on Wagner Street, this sets off a quest through the Musical Village of Chateauguay. With happy-go-lucky Nanny K leading the charge, it is no wonder they end up off course!

Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges include, but are not limited to the following:
The inability of HSPP's illustrator to complete the storyboard illustrations in time for the project to go to print.
Our preselected printer, with whom we have worked in the past, can not secure the required paper stock at our pre-negotiated price and run time to make our deadline.
HSPP is not able to meet its pre-publication costs, including the full payment of its editor, designers, illustrator and print costs.
In each one of these cases, HSPP has identified secondary sources that would be able to step in if required, however, the final look and feel of the final product may be slightly altered.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
