We are Cheese & Chocolate, a brand new 100% vegan food business based in Cardiff, South Wales with a passion for food and compassion for animals.
Cheese & Chocolate specialises in creating comfort food (that would usually be made with cheese and chocolate) with vegan friendly, cruelty free substitutes. There is a bit of a 'health nut' stigma around veganism and many people assume that vegans are restricted to eating purely nuts, seeds, fruit and vegetables. We at Cheese & Chocolate aim to be a place where you can indulge a little in foods you would've enjoyed as a meat/dairy eater without the guilt of harming anyone else.
Since the launch in June, Cheese & Chocolate has had a great reception, with lots of positive social media interaction and reviews. We have gained close to 1,000 likes in just a few short months on Facebook, plus many hundreds of followers on Instagram and Twitter. We have attended many vegan food events and have had nothing but compliments about how tasty our food is, what a great idea we have and how surprised they are that no one has done this before.
The overall goal for Cheese & Chocolate is to turn it into a franchise in the next 5 years, with establishments throughout the UK. It'd be fantastic to lead the way in making vegan eateries more mainstream & similar to other fast food restaurants. Our main priority is showing omnivores/vegetarians that any of their favourite foods can be made cruelty free and just as tasty!
Veganism is a growing lifestyle choice in the UK (and worldwide) with over half a million of us. This is due to many factors such as the environmental impact of eating animal products, the effect it has on our bodies and most importantly the cruelty involved in creating these products.
Cheese & Chocolate is solely ran by myself (James) and my girlfriend Rhiannon. As I have just finished university and she is still studying, we are not in the best place financially. We live together and are currently struggling to get C&C to its full potential as we just do not have the funds to purchase expensive equipment, insurance, transport etc. For example, we currently have to make 2 trips walking across Cardiff City Centre to our stall every week at The Full Moon carrying heavy boxes as we don't have a car, nor can we afford to pay for taxis etc. We also catch trains and busses each week when shopping for ingredients and even making deliveries around Wales.

We are asking for £500 to put towards a small car/van to take C&C further than we could ourselves. It would help us so much with day-to-day tasks (e.g. our residency at The Full Moon, shopping for ingredients, making deliveries), as well as allowing us to travel more easily to participate in events and spread the word throughout the UK. This is something we would never be able to afford ourselves especially as C&C is our only source of income at the moment. We truly believe we have stumbled upon a business idea with a lot of potential and we are passionate about trying to make it our full time career. It'd mean the world to us if some of you reading this can help us.
Risks and challenges
Our main challenge that we face after our project is having lots of hard work ahead of us to continue to grow Cheese & Chocolate to it's full potential, but we are extremely driven and excited to put our all into the business.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
