I would like to invite you to be part of this creative and spiritual journey. There is a great joy in creating art and it is even more joyful to create collectively than alone. The path of composer is often lonely, as most time is spent in solitude. There are days and times I face extreme loneliness but whenever I play the piano, the loneliness is eased as I know an ear above is listening.
My goal for 2016 is to release my second album "Not Alone" featuring my solo piano improvisations on familiar church hymn. These well-known hymns are deeply treasured among Christian believers, as their profound messages and beautiful melodies have strengthened our walks in our faith, especially during trials and difficult seasons in life.
Far from providing a dogmatic outline of our lives, faith is a journey of imagination and creativity. There are infinite possibilities for what our God can do in our ordinary lives and His wisdom is beyond what we can fathom. Music is a gift from God to celebrate our faith as we express our gratitude for Christ's redeeming work on the cross. It also serves as a healing stream to comfort broken hearts as we present our hurts and pains to Him. This solo album reflects my personal struggles and walk with Jesus; it is intimate and honest as well as adventurous and wildly imaginative. I hope you will be blessed by this music, just as people were blessed with the sweet fragrance in the room when Mary poured out her alabaster jar on Jesus' feet.
Art is an expensive perfume when it comes to production and distribution, so I hope you can help me to produce a top quality scent to our Savior by supporting me financially and prayerfully on this project. I pray God can bring this project to fruition through our collective efforts so I will not be producing this album alone. I also pray that my music will carry God's healing power to comfort your lonely soul and to remind you that you are not struggling alone, either.
Risks and challenges
I have been meaning to record this album for years, not only because I felt the call to do so, but many of my fans have been asking for it.
However, I always feel that my piano skills are not sufficient to fully reflect God's glory; my harmony needs more sophistication, my rhythm still needs improvement, and my doubts of my own ability can go on and on. I realized I will never be ready for this project if I am waiting to achieve perfection in my artistry. I can only offer to God what I have. Just as when the little boy gave Jesus his five loaves of bread and two fishes, Jesus can multiply our limited recourses to bless one another abundantly.
Another obstacle has been my busy schedule. I have been enrolled in a Master's degree in composition since 2013. My life has been filled with deadlines, papers, exams, and performances for the past two years. Now, I have finished all the required courses and have no more papers to write. Therefore, it is a good time to record this album.
My third obstacle is lack of funding. Producing a quality CD costs money, from booking the recording studio, hiring the engineer, mixing the album, paying the photographer and graphic designers, and post production costs. However, since I know I am called to do this project and people have been expressing their interest to help, I have faith that God will supply all my needs like He has always been.
"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
